Raiden Fighters (1995) is the first game I know of that gives you any points for it.

DDP II is the only game in the series that I actually enjoy. Me and DMC were going do to an awesome live-stream of us playing it at new years eve, but there were too many other disturbing guests.

This is more love than DDP BS has ever seen in a single thread, usually it's always getting berated!
I've changed the thread title to reflect the shift in discussion.

Think I'm going to go and give it another whirl now.

you guys have definitely piqued my interest in this. And the IGS English website makes me want to play this, as Engrish deserves to be rewarded.

The biggest issue is why there is no high score thread?

I think it's because like 5 people here own it.

I found a candycab of DDP2 at a Chinese restaurant in the Philippines back in 2004, separate from an arcade that was across the bowling alley next to it. Unfortunately the machine was off at the time. (I never got to play at the arcade either--this was just hours before my flight back to NorCal.)

Then I got to play it at Fanime in I think 2007, and it was later moved into SJSU's arcade.

Maybe I'll give it another go when/if the chance arises again. I'll just have to ignore the high score list that's loaded with creditfeeders.

Nice work Ras!

I'll go an work up a pitiful score to stick on this and get the ball rolling.

Now all I need is someone to put up an Elemental Master high score thread. :o

Bee Storm is the most incredibly hilarious title for a game ever. I'ts like something the people at Cracked would come up with after several kegs of Guinness.

Or because score doesn't reset when continuing. Anyway, we are all honest people on the shmups board right?

IIRC, the scores in this game adds ONE point for each continue, so the non-continue scores all end with a zero. I could be mistaken though.

I lol'd. Btw, cool observations, Skykid. I'd like to play them both once again now to see the similarities.

Yeah, we observed that too.

not to be confused, some of those aren't carts, but single boards (CAVE games). Demon Front is really good.

Isn't it redundant to have both the score be reset AND a single digit added to the end?

Either way, everyone knows you continued.

That's the point; current scores don't reset when you continue in Bee Storm.

But it does add a single digit, so who cares? Everyone knows you continued and your score is thus invalid.

Adding a single digit to the score works, assuming every other scoring element in the game does nothing to the singles digit. So, if the score doesn't end with a 0, the person used that many continues.

Of course, then you can't tell apart runs with 0 continues and runs with 10 continues...

If you're using 10 credits to reset the ones digit to zero, your scores are probably ass.

OT: Speaking about credit feediing and ending digits. Soukyugurentai adds 1 point for each 11th and surplus bomb you collect. That's quite weird. Although it's interesting that you can note whether hi-score players utilize that scoring trick, it is easily confounded with credit feeding. Nonetheless, I think adding 1 point is a smart move to indicate an invalid score.

Have CAVE ever made any comments or statements about DDP2 bee storm, what do they think of it?

Not as far as I know. We can assume their silence says it all really.

Folks:

Dave is right. It's not worth debating about the score, if people want to lie about scores there's nothing stopping them doing that across all the high score boards where picture evidence is not a requirement.
We just have to go on trust that people won't be dumb enough to delude themselves by deluding others.

Most of the time, the last digit remains at 9 for used credits that number ten or more.
