Xbox 360 Scart Via XRGB2+: some advice if pos

Post by Skykid »

Hey folks,

I picked up an official 360 scart lead in anticipation of Viletim's Scart->Jamma contraption, but before it arrives I decided to plug it into my XRGB2+ to see how it looks via VGA on my LCD (as this was a recommended method of ensuring there's no lag while having a decent picture.)

But honestly, it looks pretty dreadful. Blurry and washed out. I realise that there is going to be a difference between this and 720p component, but as the input lag seems identical when connected either way (as in, barely anything), I can't see any benefit to using the XRGB2+.
I tried Futari arcade and 360 modes and after XRGB2+ scanlines are applied there's hardly any difference - they both look as thought they've lost a LOT of quality.

Any tips on how this should be working, or is it best to avoid Scart -> XRGB2+ entirely?

Thanks for the advice guys.

If I understand you correctly, you hook it up like this to get scanlines, right? I would get a VGA cable for the 360 instead and adding an SLG3000 before the LCD screen: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.ph ... &start=120

I'm getting an SLG3000 as soon as it's out (if I have money at that time) because it looks like quite a wonderful little tech.

Just look at this: 480p MAME -> SLG3000:

Never heard of that one, does indeed look great, but I'm certainly not in a position to pony up even more cash for even more trinkets. :(

If the XRGB2+ is no good at converting hi-res images (and it's not evidently) I'll just wait until Viletim's adaptor turns up and leave it permanently in the cab.
I still have a PAL machine that I'll leave hooked up to the LCD for non-shmup games.

Thanks for the info Emph. :o

The XRGB is intended for 240p signals, while the 360 can only output 480i in RGB mode.

If you wanted to apply scanlines to a 360's signal, you'd need an Emotia in the chain (360 -> Emotia -> XRGB), but with the new SLG3000 you don't need this anymore. Just 360 -> SLG3000 will look just as good.

I see, that's all the info I needed, thanks Fudoh. I won't bother using the two in conjunction again.
