Have you tried it out yet and can you comment on the improved loading times Emphatic?

I only had a few minutes this morning. I didn't think to time the initial load, but it was ~16 seconds after selecting the game mode before play. That seems like a decent improvement.
Edit: the patch is 4MB in size.

All in-game loading times are now down to approx. 5 seconds. The initial load is still quite long, but not as long as it used to be.
Graphics look a lot nicer without the filter (on a CRT via RGB scart).
There's a new 360 system update out today too. Apparently it lets you install game patches onto the HDD instead of in the temporary cache. Don't know if this is automatic or what, as I couldn't see anything in the system options.

Did everyone really want to play the original game that much? Also, were there not supposed to be some changes for X-Mode?

Damn, forgot to bring my disc with me to work
(yeah, I have JPN 360 at work). I almost did, but I remembered that the patch was due tomorrow so ended up not taking it with me. Guess I'll have to wait to check it out.
Loading wise, what does it look like when installed to the HDD? Without the patch, I couldn't really see a difference before.

Weren't we told that the loading times would be reduced to a couple of seconds at most? After waiting such a long for the patch I'm pretty underwhelmed, I have to say.

The loading times are *vastly* improved (at least when the game is installed to the HDD). It used to take the best part of a minute for most in-game loading, now it takes less than 10 seconds.

Surprised to see it's still blurry, and that practice mode's still useless.

Sorry if this is an annoying question, but apart from all the talk about how buggy the game was/is. Is it actually any good? I don't have much experience of the DonPachi/DoDonPachi series so I'm just wondering whether to get it or not.

It's brutal but brilliant. The level of finetuning here is almost ridiculous; the more time you put into it, the more fun it gets.Captain Cat wrote:Sorry if this is an annoying question, but apart from all the talk about how buggy the game was/is. That's interesting. I've read around and I can only see that it adds the "boot from disc" option back in. Where did you hear about storing the patches on the hard drive?bcass wrote: There's a new 360 system update out today too. It's true that Title Update can now be installed in the accessible portion of a storage device. But it's not new as of today. It's been there for a couple of weeks as far as I know. Think it goes back all the way to November update. TU have a limit of 4mb. Recently, games like Call of Duty Black Ops and Assassins Creed Brotherhood got larger TU (7mb). Those patch got installed on the visible portion of the storage device. From my understanding, it's mostly because it would fill up the cache pretty quick. Memory Unit have a 12mb cache and HDD got a 32mb if I'm not mistaken.Rupert H wrote:That's interesting. I've read around and I can only see that it adds the "boot from disc" option back in. The location of the title update is not something that you can pick. MS auto selects it depending on the size of it. Anything above 5mb will be installed in the non cache section of the storage.

After some time with the patch...
I really like X-mode. I think I prefer this over DFK itself. The loading times are much faster and I barely even notice them. It's disappointing that there's no way to completely remove the blurriness and I really did think that they would have addressed the inadequate practice mode though. I'm also surprised to see Start still being used as Back once you choose a game.
I think this will tie me over until DFKBL is released. I can definitely see myself playing this a lot more now.

I recall it being mentioned that the patch is supposed to change some of X Mode's behaviors. Has anyone noticed any changes?

Reseting the online leaderboards due to X-Mode's scoring system being a little different now .

What exactly are you playing on? I just did an hour or two on my tri-res arcade monitor at the native 640x480 and the game looks fantastic. Brighter and incredibly sharp. There''s no muddiness, no blurriness and no eye strain. It's such a visual improvement it's like playing a new game.Elixir wrote:It's disappointing that there's no way to completely remove the blurriness

VGA CRT monitor in 640x resolution. I haven't tried it in any other resolution, but it probably won't matter.njiska wrote:What exactly are you playing on? Re: Ketsui X and Daioujou Black Label X - Ports for Xbox 360
Had a very informal test run on the patch, but don't actually have time to play. It feels like the only load time that was significantly affected so far was the load time to the main menu (from the title screen and when returning from one of the game modes), which comes up near-instantly now rather than being a 20-30 second wait. I can't help but notice that the quality of the menu's background graphics have severely decreased - perhaps this is how the speed increase was achieved...

Then I made the mistake of trying the ps2 dodonpachi right after. Damn, that game looks sweet. I know it runs at 240p on the ps2, but even ketsui looks so much better. Oh well. I guess I'll move on.

Did you "blurry guys" try different overscan percentages? 93% looks sharp for me. Also try 5:4 AR instead of 4:3.
