XBLA: Microbot

Post by `Throwdown »

Tried the demo, the visuals right off the bat were great. I Liked the demo, so I bought it ... it's a solid "free roaming" shmup. EA ? Not bad!
I haven't heard much about it yet from anyone... What's your guys opinion?

not much to add to your post, game looks & sounds great but the little I played of it so far (10 min) seemed a bit easy/empty. Maybe later levels are tougher. Mind you it's not what people here call a shmup, so this topic will probably be moved to OT. Curious to hear the opinion of anyone who's played it for longer...

no this is counted, and it will definitely be counted long before the likes of after burner (which is counted)

^^ Agreed.

And yeah, it's not your "traditional shmup", and is quite easy until you get into levels 4-5. At some point, it's how well you load your ship on the fly, depending on the situation will decide if you die over and over at one spot, or finish it on your first try.

Game feels like I'm trudging through knee-high water with that terrible inertia.

I couldn't even finish the demo before losing interest.

I liked the visual theme and idea of the game but it sort of gets forgotten in the last two worlds. Some of the later levels are unnecessarily long, pretty much replacing the idea of making the game harder and instead having bigger levels with more of the same enemies.

The inertia remains throughout the whole game, none of the parts can really remove it (they couldve made this possible if you had 3 auxiliary parts in a triangle or such). The control is really slow at the start of the game though because you have the worst auxiliary part.

Challenge mode could be sort of fun, but the levels are randomized and it loops infinitely. If it had set levels and a time bonus it could be pretty fun but as it is now you just need to play as safely and slowly as possible which is boring as hell.

Gave this a spin this weekend. Man, those early levels go slow. I didn't think it was going to be very playable throughout the entire game until I got some new ship access ports.. things (hopefully this makes sense to the people who've played the game).

The inertia didn't bother me too much, really. Once you upgrade a propulsion to the max level, even just having 1 of them on your ship gives at least some level of maneuverability. 2 of them on a ship gives you enough of it where it's never a bother. Putting more on it almost became uncontrollable for me.

Still a decent game. Would recommend it if you're a fan of such games, or it goes on sale eventually.

Played the demo yesterday and frankly I didn't like it. The concept of going inside the human body killing infections is great but the execution is poor. Nice visuals, but the game feels very slow-paced and the sleep-inducing music doesn't help either. Also, I'm not sure but I had the impression the game has infinite lives - you just respawn at the last checkpoint when you die. So beating the game is no challenge.

During the whole time I was thinking to myself how better X-Multiply is.

Got this the other day. It's bland as hell and really boring to play.
