I dunno, the Saturn version has the arranged soundtrack and the special version on it. Having it in MAME is nice but I'd rather have the Saturn version.
Feedback will set you free.

They're probably still fucked because you're using an old version of MAME :?

But yeah, they're working in current versions.

I always get nervy about updating MAME because some game I want to play always seems to stop working altogether.
Guess I'll suck it up and dl the latest.

You know, it's not going to kill you to keep older versions of MAME around. They can coexist in the same directory, even. :P

I am poorwill. I am not much of an entity so I do not expect that name to have stuck in your head (for better or worse). I am about the same there as I am here, but now you know I'm stupid and can't work MAME.

It's not that you're stupid and can't work MAME, it's that you're stupid and can't work your computer. Don't beat yourself up.

I should post my desktop. It is completely covered in documents and random zips I've dled. It looks like the inside of a crazy cat lady's house.

0.139u3: David Haywood fixed incorrect VDP mixing in Batsugun.
0.139u2: David Haywood fixed Toaplan2 VDP mixing in Batsugun. This fixed the tiles/tiles and tiles/sprites priorities problems. Removed 2nd screen.

That's pretty recent indeed.

Yo Drum, I can't remember if you got one of the MAME builds that unofficially supported the likes of ESPGaluda, but to avoid the fucked graphics you can just dump the ROM in that version. As I recall the one I got was the u3 build.
Or better yet, get the latest normal MAME and dont be a wimp about games not working, and when ShmupMAME 3.0 comes out 'upgrade' again. :P

This is great news. Does anyone know if getting Batsugun's music working puts us closer to getting sound and music working in other Toaplan games, like Dogyuun or Vimana?

It's been mentioned before on these boards that you can play those games with sound using sample packs in ThunderMAME.

Not that this diminishes the work that must have gone into emulating Batsugun's sound chip.

The topic title says "Emulated" not "hacked".

Dogyuun yes, Vimana no.
V-Five / Grindstormer, Fix Eight, Knuckle Bash, and Dogyuun will also benefit from this once their sound code has been fully decrypted. This is just a matter of time and a bit of effort in figuring out the programs.

For the remaining Toaplan games (Teki Paki, Vimana, Fire Shark, Ghox, Whoopee JPN version) the sound MCUs need decapping, which will require funding / donations for this purpose.

ThunderMAME doesn't play half the sound effects properly, doesn't have proper music transition, and is uh .. a gross hack. They even tried to submit their video hacks before it was properly rewritten and they were laughed out the room because they were so bad. Thundermame is not correct in terms of either graphics, or audio, your post is incredibly rude towards those who have spent time and money in trying to get this done properly.

It's also a good example of why things shouldn't be hacked up, because if this attitude is common, less people are likely to donate to actually get Vimana done properly.

It's no wonder bootlegs with brutally hacked sound systems sold so well.

Thankfully there is a good community of people here who do understand how much of a landmark getting this working properly actually is. I've been wanting to see this done for a long, long time, in excess of 10 years.
