eXcite Truck..a good buy?
I really want a racing game for wii. Is this the one to have?

There Are Monsters Everywhere...
I rate this as one of my favourite current gen games by a long way, and it's certainly my favourite 3D racer ever. I still play it perhaps more than any other Wii game. It's amazing fun two player, and has a perfectly balanced racing system that pushes you to rcae both fast and stylishly.
It is certainly a touch silly and over-the-top, but play through to getting perfect grades across the hard and mirror modes that open once you perfect the normal mode, and you're faced with a thoroughly testing challenge marked by amazing gameplay detail. Try to get the scores required to S-grade the harder challenges for Mirror mode (where the game's cources are reversed) and you'll relise why five trees are so carefully positioned on so many sweeping corners, as you'll need to combine five star tree runs and five star drifts requiring a perfect racing line. Plus there's some amazing 'hidden' routes through the trees that don't even look like routes, where you can milk tree runs for amazing scores.
And you get to jump of bloody great mountains. Great fun multiplayer, lovely controls, and easy to get super cheap
Finally, if you liked Excitebike on the NES, this is a great reimagining of some of the same basic princibles.
Most underrated Wii game yet.

Personally, I think THE racing game to own for Wii is Mario Kart.
Having said that, this game is a close second.
Lots of arcade-like, skill oriented game play. It's definitely not a game you can easily skate through. You will have to practice if you want to unlock everything.
Bonus points are awarded because the game lets you put your own BGM on an SD card. To my knowledge, this is the only US Wii release that uses that feature.
My only gripe is with the controls. It's extremely frustrating when the game misinterprets your motion based inputs - not because you did anything wrong, but because the hardware is simply not good enough

another recommendation for Excite Truck!
I love this game, play it often to this day. I believe it is one of the better games on the Nintendo Wii and the steering controls are pretty good… not perfect but close.
and indeed I agree that the greatest feature is uploading personal music via the SD card slot.
Exicte Truck is indeed the most underrated game on the Wii

I must admit that I rarely meet anyone with my enthusiasm for the game, but I've found the multiplayer amazing fun with a couple of mates i have with a similar passion for it. We just play 'best out of seven' doing a course from each country, and almost every race ends neck and neck at the finish line. Thrilling stuff.
I found the controls nice and tight too. At least precise enough for tree runs pushing into the 70s if I remember rightly.
Might just be though, that sometimes it's the people you play with that make a particular game fun, rather than the game per se[/]. Excite Truck is something of a ritual with a couple of friends of mine, but I'd rarely whip it out elsewhere.
Still, I love it, and I stand by the fact it's a fine game. I adore Mario Kart Wii certainly, but I'd choose Excite Truck any day.

Yeah, actually. The US Gamestops really don't seem to have them. I guess I'll have to do it online.Sonic R wrote:Are you having difficulty to locate a copy of Excite Truck?Phil12 wrote:well it seems more people like it than hate it so I think I'm gonna get it.
...now to find it.
(Sorry, I cannot sell mine)
I imagine it should not be to difficult to locate this game?

I realize you don't really need any more prodding, but I'll toss in my two cents and say that the game is pretty fun - really fun if you can get together with a friend that might appreciate it. I got more play out of this than any other Wii launch title except Zelda.

Assuming your playing sat on a sofa or chair, anchoring your elbows firmly on your knees is the secret for Excite Truck - it gives you super tight, accurate control...MX7 wrote:Brilliant game. I'm shit at it, and wish I could play it with an analogue stick rather than fucking around with the remote, but it's still prob my favourite multiplayer wii game.

Just played this game at my sister's house the other day. Anyone who doesn't unabashedly love every aspect of this game just outed themselves as a mentally retarded robot. What even brings these people to a shmup forum? Burnout done even better and more besides. Could not roll to the store fast enough.

DO IT! That game rocks. The gameplay is excellent; it's a bit like Burnout, only with trucks and no traffic.. my only real issue with it is that the graphics tear sometimes. I've been looking for a copy for myself since I play it a lot at a friend's house. It's surprisingly hard to find used even though plenty were produced. A sign of a fun game I suppose.
Do NOT buy ExciteBots though. That one is lame.
I agree with "Burnout done better". It's maybe a little less slick, but it does not seem to have the annoying gameplay flaws that Burnout does: the occasional unavoidable crash and extreme rubber-banding.

I disagree about "Burnout done better" (Burnouts on consoles - no idea about handhelds - ALWAYS, at least on a single screen, perform better), but seems to me that you just might like Burnout Paradise.louisg wrote:I agree with "Burnout done better". Framerate-related rants aside, Excite Truck feels like no other car game I played (even the - better performing if I remember correctly - Jak 3 during the desert missions). Rather like, um, Sky Odyssey (amazingly, the tutorial is useful in this one as well) - colourful and devoid of dudes to see.
It's a fun game and refreshingly silly at that. Even the Mario Kart Wii wheel works a treat in Excite Truck.

Tons of fun once you get a hang of the controls. Just make sure to put some music on a sd card because the soundtrack gets old pretty quick.

Excitebots (the sequel to Excite Truck) is easily the Wii game I've put the most hours into. They're both games that every Wii owner should have.
