I'm sort of embarassed to admit I read the first saga (six books). The first two and the last one were actually fucking awesome, but there was way too much padding in the middle. I doubt I'll bother reading any more when there is Gregor The Overlander/Hunger Games to read. The real embarassment though are the goddamn ga'hoole books. It's pretty much Edgar Rice Burroughs for 9 year olds. This isn't a trip for everyone. Maybe it's a trip for no-one. I swear the author is taking amphetemines the way PKDick did. She rides the crest of 'oh my god I can't believe you are doing that', while also being complete dogshit. This is my most guilty pleasure, as I've already read like 9 of them but they get funnier (and more fucking amazing) every volume. Am I observing the total fucking breakdown of an author, or the total degeneration of my own sensibilities? Who the fuck cares though? It's like if He-Man was a continuous, on-going series where each episode lead into the next. Could you imagine a six episode story-arc just developing Beast-man's character? Yeah it's embarassing, but you know you'd be there too

Most of this stuff you can speed read. For me, often two days per book if I feel compelled. I only really plunged back into kids books recently, but kids books are without question one of the most productive genres right now. If you have no standards (and I mean that in a 'my netflix que is filled with Dr. Who' kind-of-way), then the pickings are good. For the right person, I'd actually gush about the ga'hoole books, but they are seriously demented, crack-induced low-brow bird fantasy. At book 9, I may actually have to be drunk to keep reading them, but holy shit, way to go where no one else would even try.
Again (and I know I'm repeating myself), I really wish overall the warriors books were better. That first saga ended on such a great high note. If it was all like that or even close I'd fucking buy a giant pile and roll around on them, but unfortunately no. Depending on how much talking animal conan you need, you might still want to indulge, but I just can't manage another round of them.
In fact, all this nonsense raises an almost serious question, have you read 'Beast of Tarzan'?, because as much as everyone is saying the modern kid fantasy movement is brought about by harry potter, I tend to think that's only fiscally. Stylistically, it's all beasts of tarzan. One of the most fucking out of control books I have ever read. I really don't know if the cat or owl books are inspired by Beasts of Tarzan (though Howard and Burroughs are clearly in there somewhere), but by some means, they have somehow come to the same point, and while maybe it isn't some kind of artistic plateu, it is a plateu nonetheless.

Working on some scotch now and watching Grizzly man which is a great film to watch while inebriated.

Played pinball (attack from mars)with some friends. One of them gave me a Norco. Had some gulps of wine a little bit after. Everything is going to be okay.
Can't believe I just stumbled onto this thread. Open bar at a wedding tonight; perhaps there will be an inaugural chronic1 drunk post. God forbid I post under the influence of Jager.

Ahah, bro I just went to a stag-do last night.. We had about 40 people in a party bus, drinking before we got in the bus, in the bus to town, and then pub-hopped and ended up at the strippers until 4:00 in the morning, went back on the bus drinking..
I'm sore from head to toe, but that over here just means I had a bloody good time.
Google Translate tells me that Unlimited Mode "is for people who like festivals."
My brother came into town today, so we hit a couple of bars. Didn't really drink too much but, I am a little tipsy/close, have to work early tomorrow so I'm killin' time while my food simmers. Beans and weenies, yum. But, with a spicy sliced and pan fried kielbasa, and I put some spicy honey bbq in it (but, the bbq still has allot of misquie smell to it) and a scoop of butter, to see how it comes out with it, and my cholesterol test came back with great results. Yeah, I'm going to use the spell check on this.. Still, I had a great time, actually way better than I expected. So, yeah, food.
drunk as usual overseas in Sasebo, Japan. All I can say is listen to DEATH. Chuck Shuldiner was a genius. Religion is stupid. DEATH is the best band ever. Symbolic.....
Tipsy. Went to see my brothers metal band play a reunion show. Bloodbath, and Beyond, they're kinda bad, especially after not playing together for a couple of years. But, it has former members of Brutal Truth and Kalibas. I really do enjoy seeing my friends having a good time and doing something creative. That's more important to me than how they sound. Other bands that played, In Tongues, these guys were really good actually. Abdicate, meh.. Sounds just like Six Feet Under.
I've grown away from the metal scene, but there is always something special about seeing it live, this I really do enjoy. It's just not my first listen anymore if I'm going to put in a cd. Saw some old friends, talked to new peoples, had a good time all around.
Jesus christ, pulled off a bit of my double homewrecker ale as I moved it to secondary, and at 10% I'm pretty incapacitated right now.

Nice solid 8% buzz off of 3 bottles of Chimay....Trappist monk beer from Belgium. Feeling great and very relaxed and watching Fringe Season 2 Amazing how a nice buzz makes you extra paranoid when you're watching a show all about secret conspiracies
