Excellent time for Outrun Online Arcade

Post by Ghegs »

As I'm sure some people already know, Outrun Online Arcade will be removed from XBLA come this December. Of course even after that you can re-download and play it to your heart's content if you've bought the game before it's taken down.

And the game's currently only 400 MS points.

So who's up for a race?

Wow, I didn't even know about this! I love OutRun. It's a shame since I don't have a 360, so even if I get one in the future I won't be able to play it. :/ Is it similar to how OutRunners works with two players?

Since it's turning out I can't actually go to Walmart today and my 360 will be running at MAGFest all weekend... will this sale still be on when I get back on Monday?

I never even saw this on PSN :( I don't pay for Gold on the Xbox so there's no point in getting it :(

I'm not sure it's a sale, it's not listed on Major Nelson or any other site that I've noticed. Maybe they've discounted the price permanently until it's gone?
maxlords wrote:I don't pay for Gold on the Xbox so there's no point in getting it :(
Sure there is. I've spent most of my time with the game just doing Time Attack (was #13th in the world leaderboards for one route at some point) and you don't need Gold to submit your times. And the other single-player modes (Normal, Heart Attack...) are just as fun.

In any case, if somebody's up for some racin', hit me up (gamertag: Ghegs) and we'll get to it. Shmups.com Racing League, go!

I want this for psn, anyone willing to share the game with me?
it is my own fault, I have 2SP for ps2, which is great and the ORonline has fewer cars, etc, so I thought fuk it, but now that it is gone I really want it. I´ll pay, trade whatever.

I agree. Single player is pretty fun. I only played online like once or twice. I don't recommend much, but I do recommend this game, especially for $5.

It's a shame Microsoft got exclusive rights for this in North America. I would have bought this in a second if it was available for PS3 here. Although aside from the online play, I still think the PC version is better; 1080p with all anti-aliasing turned on max smokes any other version IMO.

Heat attack mode is an awesome new addition. I love having targets on top of just making it to the goal.

Thanks for the heads up, it's well worth the 400 points. I've just had a few goes and it seems really good, I've always been more for arcade racers than sims personally. It's a shame you can't download ghosts/replays from the leaderboards (unless I missed it), but it's not a big deal.

Do you know of any other XBLA games which have also dropped in price and will be taken off the marketplace?

The only reason this is being removed from the Marketplace is because Sega lost (or couldn't be bothered renewing) the Ferrari licence. It's already been pulled from PSN because of the System 3 Ferrari title being released for the service.

Thanks for the advice. I picked it up, too. Great for $5. I do enjoy watching the girlfriend get pissed at my driving.

One of the first things I did while playing was to yell "Multi-Track Drifting!" and then start drifting.

Don't know why, it didn't make much sense. Like I said, thanks for the heads-up!
Why is it called the Vic Viper/Warp Rattler? Because the Options trail behind it in a serpent-like fashion, and the iconic front fins are designed to invoke the image of a snake's fangs.

I snagged it too. Was kinda hard to play it on my TATE screen with an LS-32 though.

But the 4:3 was perfect!

Yay! I love this game, I haven't played it for a while but I was ranked decent(I think I was top 30 on some routes back in 2009).

I guess I should see how far I've dropped. I am definitely up for this.

This game is the only thing I've ever played online with others where I won more than I lost.

edit:

I added my xbl gamertag to the gamertag thread.

edit 2:

Might as well put gamertag here: SiR Trunk

I played it last night(January 17th) for the first time in a long while...Talk about rusty, did not get that close to my previous times. Still looks like I haven't dropped to much in rankings though. There was an update for the game, anybody know what it did?

Also as Stated by Ghegs above, even if you do not run Gold you can still compare times on the leaderboards. I have friends on XBL that I've never chatted with or raced too much with but I can check and see how they're doing. It's a passive way of racing each other. I need to add Ghegs to see how he's ranked...

I didn't want to keep editing my post because it would become too long.

I sent a request to Ghegs yesterday. As soon as a request is sent you can check the leaderboards friends filters.

Ghegs, looks like there could be some good racing to be had based on our rankings.

Your times have inspired me to try to get back into getting good times which means playing less GT5 and Forza 3

How do you keep track of what's gonna be removed? The removal of games is bullshit btw, but it's not like it's the first bullshit of this gen.

Usually a tiny press release mentions it. Which is dumb, all things considered. I agree about this gen having its share of bullshit. Exclusive downloads? Really? Content that gets removed after the fact? All of it, retarded.

The fact that this game dropped in price is great for us and everyone until the game is removed. Then we have access to the game and no new users will have the option to buy it. Yeah, awesome licensing nonsense. Wonderful.

All bitching aside, this game is loads of fun.

Sega's XBLA catalog is on sale until the 25th, which puts OOA at 400 MS points again. Go get.
