Re: Custom Sticks Thread!!
PS-14 G is a snap-in pushbutton. The button surface is perfectly flat, and is slightly wider than most Sanwas (while still being a 30mm mount). It comes in solid, opaque colors. These are the buttons that come with Hori's Real Arcade Pro EX-SE and the upcoming Radiant Silvergun stick.
PS-14 KN is a screw-in pushbutton. The button surface is slightly convex and is about the same width as your typical Sanwa. It is translucent, so it is possible to mount artwork within the button. (There's also the PS-14 K, which is a snap-in version.)

thanks for your answers ^_^
But between PS14-G or 14K (nuts or snap-in) , the feeling is the same ? I've read we can compare PS-14G to the buttons mounted on the Namco Arcade Stick (Grey and yellow), is that true ?

Same shape, but not the same microswitch, as the six yellow buttons on the namco

Re: Custom Sticks Thread!!
Both styles do feel a bit different, as they have different physical characteristics. Which you prefer is really personal preference.
It's worth noting that you're modding an Agetec, which -could- support snap-ins but the holes aren't the standard 30mm - you have to widen them for standard 30mm parts to fit. Screw-ins might work better as they give a little more leeway on how circular your holes have to be.

@Drachenherz - I have the same artwork on a custom I built back when Mushi was announced region-free. Good stuff.
I recently opdated my personal stick, been super lazy getting around to it - but now this bitch is complete:
-Full multi-console (PS1\2\3, Xbox\360, Gamecube\Wii, Dreamcast, PC, etc.)
-Cthulhu MC + Madcatz padhack + Imp
-Markertek CAT6 passthrough (these are way nicer than Neutrik's IMHO - as they fit a round 24mm hole)
-Seimitsu all the way including an LS-40-01 w/ custom gate + spring mod
-Bomb-ass art
-Top+bottom plex
-Art's clear dustwasher
-Large lowpro black rubber feet
-Sanwa meshtop
-Blood sweat and tears
+ a plethora (A PLETHORA?) of custom cables
This one I've posted before, but NOW it's complete...and it feels so nice just knowing it's totally done (although I've been playing on it for almost a year, it feels brand new now
)
Feast:

and the backside

What do you all think?
I've been out the game for a while, been focusing on restoring my two Sega candy cabinets (posted several pages back), and with all the great builders that have popped up in the last year flooding the market, my sales have dropped significantly...but oh well, it ain't about the money (right boys?) it's all about the love of the wood, the work, and the WIN!
Toodles!

I absolutely *love* your Stick, Matskat... (oh yeah, insert "that sounded wrong" comments here...)
The buttons, the artwork and the wooden case, they go together perfectly. And I just love the casing, I'm a sucker for those angled corners. I take it you did the case yourself? Colour me envious!

Where did you get the mushihimesama artwork, and what size/dpi is it? Unfortunately, I only had the one from the cave games-page (sorry, don't remember the exact name of this site right now.).

Re: Custom Sticks Thread!!
I managed to pick up one of these today:

Don't be fooled by the price on the box, I managed to grab this brand new for only $20. I'm not sure what I'll be doing to this one.
So that brings my collection to this:

HRAP EX-SE and HRAP 2 both with Seimitsu ls-32's and PS-14-KN buttons connected to a MC Cthulhu
Madcatz Marvel vs Capcom TE for PS3 with a ls-32-01 and different colored Sanwa OBSF-30's
Madcatz Tatsunoko vs Capcom Fightsick stock for now
@Matskat your personal stick looks awesome.

You can find all the info you need on modding TE sticks on SRK's tech talk forum, but its pretty easy by just looking at it inside. Unless there is something in particular on that stick you mean by "this"

Re: Custom Sticks Thread!!
Dunpeal, I made pics of almost all the steps in swappimg the art and the joystick of my TE stick.
Looki here:
http://www.drachenherz.ch/index.php?opt ... y&catid=35
If I find the time, I could give some descriptions to the pics, but the gallery is allready rather self explanatory by itself. But I have to go to bed now sooner than later...
And yeah, just buy the plexi and the artwork. In europe, more precicsely in germany, you could hit up the user bencao74. I got my plexis from him. He's also on these boards. He even delivers pre-cut artworks.

Re: Custom Sticks Thread!!
I really wish I had the technical skill to mod my sticks. Nothing fancy, just an RJ-45 multiconsole mod, probably. I get the feeling that if I tried, I could at least learn, as I understand the ideas behind it. But I just don't know electronics, at least as far as soldering goes. The most complicated thing I did was change out my old SF Anniversary stick with happ parts.
Any suggestions on where to learn electronics, if you have very little experience?
Also, great, great job, guys. Some very nice looking sticks in here.

Re: Custom Sticks Thread!!
I did the MC Cthulhu RJ-45 mod twice myself. I had no experience soldering before and actually found it to be relatively easy once I felt I had enough practice soldering my HRAP 2 pcb. You only need to solder 8 points on the MC Cthulhu pcb if you're not dual modding it with another pcb.Thjodbjorn wrote:I really wish I had the technical skill to mod my sticks. I recommend reading through slagcoin and the Shoryuken forums. That's where I managed to find 99% of the info.
In fact I think nerrage (correct me if I'm wrong, SRK site is down) just wrote an awesome guide last week entitled Dual modding 101 that seems to cover everything from start to finish.

Re: Custom Sticks Thread!!
Arthong is definitely recommended for replacement plexis and artwork. He'll have the art cut for you to fit the panel, and he also makes cut-outs of the buttons that are suitable for use in the clear Seimitsu buttons. You'll want to clean up that adhesive they use on the case (if you removed those bolts and took the panel off you'll feel/see it). Remove the ball on the stick and shaft cover, remove the buttons, remove old art and cover from metal plate, replace with the new art and plexi, replace the buttons, replace the ball.Zapf wrote:edit: If you mean the art, check out arthongs site, where most people buy replacement art / plexi: http://www.tek-innovations.com/arthobbies/
Read the Slagcoin site about the parts in an arcade stick. It's good stuff.
If you're replacing the stick with a LS-32 or LS-40 (I like the LS-40 myself) make sure you have a SS mounting plate for it. I believe the LS-32's you order from LizardLick Amusements come with the proper plate, but the LS-40 comes with the RE (flat) plate so you'll need to order one as well. You'll want to orient the stick so the pins used to connect it to the wiring harness are facing the same way as the JLF that came with the stick, and you should flip the connector on the harness over to make sure the directional inputs are correct.
If you want to replace the ball-top with a bubble one like you see in the picture you simply hold a flat screwdriver on the bottom of the stick's shaft and twist the top. They simply screw on to the top of the shaft.
If you're replacing the buttons you can use snap-ins or screw-ins. If you're using Sanwa screw-ins you'll want to get one nut meant for Seimitsu buttons because the universal mount used for the stick will get in the way. The Seimitsu nut can be slid underneath the offending part (it might be necessary to sand down the nut by just a millimeter or two). The buttons use quick-disconnects, if they're too hard to remove take a small screwdriver, insert the tip in the open side of the QD and twist slightly to loosen.

Hey Guys,
I have done somewhat of a u-turn(!) I havnt really had much love for TE mods for reasons unknown, but of late I have warmed to them and decided to mod a TE rather than do my usual full custom build (its for me anywho ... so all is good!)
Its a simple art swap with full 3mm plexi to top and 2mm plexi to bottom (thanks for these B15!)with homage to one of my favorite shmups ... Trigger Heart Exelcia .... now with that in mind it wouldn't be fitting if I couldn't use it on my DC ... so I ripped out the PS3 PCB and replaced it with a DC PCB C/W VMU to make it a dedicated DC stick .... nothing too special but it does look pleasant. Hope you likey

Cheers hombre! Wood-grain effect = trip to DIY store of choice, and procuring 1x adhesive roll of choice faux-wood veneer, & voila! Heavier weight stuff = more expensive, but has faux-grain effect, and will mask pre-existing empty button holes etc. Pure instant Atari 2600 aesthetic. Simplest mod I've ever undertaken, & prob one I love the most.
@Matskat
That woody stick is the bomb!
@JUTMANN22
A man after my own heart - always love the Exelica mods! In fact, I am about to undertake the exact reverse from yourself - ie. the Trigger Heart Agetec mod I did (near the start of this thread) will shortly become a dedicated X360 stick (TE internals swap).
PS - One question guys, as per the pic above, does a USB stick such as the TE, function on an Ipad?
Ciao hombres.

Good to see Justin is still modding sticks!
I've been in the process of turning my PS3 Viewlix into a MC Cthulhu monster. I started in July, but I either: run out of time or find out I'm missing parts.
