And those aren't even the worst ones that have entered the discourse either - there's still regular blather about Obama being a secret Muslim/not a U.S. citizen, not to mention the utterly moronic "death panels" nonsense, among MANY others. By the way...
The larger point though, that a lot of mainstream liberal commentators and politicians are attempting to link the attacks to "dangerous" right wing rhetoric, is 100% true despite their being absolutely no evidence of a link. Whatever qualms you have with the tone of political discourse, there's no reason outside of partisan political hackery to bring up Palin's crosshair map or right wing rhetoric in any rational discussion of the shooting, especially when it just happened and the person and their motivation are largely a mystery at this time.

Aww, apparently he wasn't good with the ladies.

Oh, and it might not have been Palin, Fox News, or weed's fault.

Pretty much. Concentrating on stuff like the left's silly concern with the increasingly extreme face of mainstream right-wing rhetoric is just stupid and unecessarily meta. I think we can all agree that the real problem is a lack of gun control and a decent public healthcare system.

I very much agree with these statements, and do hope that more liberal types don't get so caught up in the desire to "nail" a conservative or two that they miss an opportunity to actually address the core matters at hand without looking like frothing morons for once - unfortunately, too many on the (more or less) left these days seem to be taking the "fight fire with fire" approach to this sort of issue, and have yet to acknowledge (which puzzles me greatly, considering how the last few decades have gone) that when the tone is allowed to deteriorate to this point without genuine efforts to revitalize it, both the ideology and the populace will ALWAYS lose.

As much of a douche as Jack Thompson is, he's nowhere near the level of epic douchedom embodied by the WBC. He'd have to step it up quite a bit to even get within yodeling distance of "Thank God for dead troops".

Not to re-topic the thread, but apparently the Westboro bunch ain't done yet - while they won't picket the young girl's funeral, they'll be making not one but two radio appearances instead, and still plan to make a ruckus at the slain judge's ceremony and at the scene where the shooting happened.

I'm so mad about Sarah Palin's video. Not only did she feel the need to say that she was a victim of the shooting - this is is a situation where an innocent 9-year-old girl was shot - but she used the term "blood libel". Giffords is a Jew, and... well... just wikipedia "blood libel". I know Palin just makes up words, but Christ, lady, do the damn research.

But Alan Dershowitz said it was okay, so it's officially a non-issue now.

Yeah, I was actually a little shocked. I actually also know someone who lives in Arizona and describes himself, I kid you not, as a "Christian Zionist", and he won't STFU about "blood libel". Yeah. I'm also not sure it's a coincidence that the shooting happened in such an obviously batshit-insane state :)

This entire theme is extremely condescending. "Some people got shot. Does this change how we'll live our lives? No? Well let's talk about it for another week anyway." I wish a tsunami or something would happen so we can move on to the next topic and all instantly forget about it forever. Having the Obamabot give one of his pithy speeches is just so.........

truthDig had some lady talking about higher capacity clips, arguing that since this psycho was cunning and mighty enough to be overpowered by an old woman, a smaller clip might have resulted in fewer deaths. Maybe the only productive commentary I've seen on this. I don't see how it would be useful at all to lower the death count of someone with foresight, however. Someone who would lay down boobie traps to counteract old ladies.

Anyway, the wikipedia rampage page for those who haven't read it yet.

Re: Arizona, it's the only state intelligent enough to not implement the barbaric practice of Daylight Stealing Time..... but you can't marry your sexy cousin there. From what I saw in Quartzsite, you understand why: too much of a good thing. Also some guys resigned after getting tea party death threats ('cause he has a tan. The Tea Party isn't racist much in the same manner that the Civil War was about "State's Rights") and this spree happened? Sounds like a swell place.
