Wondering if the PS2 will get any more Cave ports...
Now that it's gotten Mushi, I was just thinking about whether or not the PS2 will get any more Cave shmup ports before it's lifespan is up.

If there are any more Cave games ported within the next 8 months they'll have to be PS2 as the PS3 isn't even going to be out until next spring. Depends on what Cave releases before then really... I'd still like to see Ketsui ported - I think they recognise the demand for a port of that game, they (well .. Arika, if it would be them to port) need to stop this idiotic PS3 port fantasy and just do the job.

It's not like as soon as the PS3 comes out, every developer in Japan will collectively drop their PS2 development kits and beginning developing soley for the PS3. Being that most shooters don't need the additional power the PS3 will provide and it would be cheaper to develop for the PS2, continuing to port shooters to the PS2 makes a lot more sense. That being said, who knows, if anything my guess would be Ibara.

I'm sure this has been covered on the forum already - I just checked a load of old threads with search and can't find anything - could you elaborate please (probably for the 7th time...)?GaijinPunch wrote:Mihara has made it crystal clear that that won't happen, and why it won't happen.bloodflowers wrote:Arika, if it would be them to port) need to stop this idiotic PS3 port fantasy and just do the job.

Agreed about the adequate power of the PS2 for most shmups, although I would have to imagine that Type-X shmups would benefit at least somewhat from the PS3's increased power.Nemo wrote:It's not like as soon as the PS3 comes out, every developer in Japan will collectively drop their PS2 development kits and beginning developing soley for the PS3. I would LOVE to see Ibara get a release as well, but I guess, more spefically, what I'm trying to ask is if there will be any ports of any of Cave's past games, like Ketsui, ESP RA.DE., Dangun Feveron, Progear, etc.

Arika Shmika, couldn't Cave just do some more direct ports, like they just did with Mushi.?

Well, quite a few people that fancy themselves experts argue that "If you can do DOJ, Galuda, or even Mushi on the PS2, you can do Ketsui". Mihara even said in his blog, "I've gotten a lot of emails from overseas asking why it can't be done." He said over, and over, and over again that it just won't work. To put it bluntly he said, "Trust me! It's not like porting ESPGaluda which was just barely feasible".could you elaborate please (probably for the 7th time...)?
While he does admit that in a very painstaking effort they could probably do an "arcade port" (meaning it runs in arcade mode, and only arcade mode. You play, continue, and that's it... the only extra feature over the PCB you would get is a pause feature) but with such a project, there's "sales and added value barriers". If they had no budget and time they could do a better port, but price of the games are alraedy decided (5800 yen, no?) so they'd lose do.
He finishes the blog saying they won't sell a half-assed product.
In a nutshell, he's not saying it's technically impossible... it's just technically impossible to do without losing money do to the work involved. In an earlier blog entry he said that for the DOJ port, considerable time (a month or so?) was spent with Cave, just having the code (Assembly I believe) explaiend. On a seperate occasion, in the Famitsu DOJ port interview with him, Clover-TAC and a few others, he said the hardest part of the DOJ port convincing Arika's sales division to take on the project.
EDIT: Cave did do the Mushi port it turns out... in a very clandestine fashion.Arika Shmika, couldn't Cave just do some more direct ports, like they just did with Mushi.?
Galuda, yes. Mushi, no. Just my two cents... seems Mushi got plenty of publicity.I might buy Galuda and Mushi just for safekeeping since it seems the prices on those might only get higher

Why do you even care when it seems, from previous posts of yours, that you don't like Cave games?
And while my copy of Mushi hasn't arrived yet, impressions lead me to believe that the quality of the port is a bit below that of the job Arika did with DOJ and Galuda. That's better than nothing but certainly not ideal.

Oh children, will you ever be happy? It's a little shimmery. It's missing the wonderful practice options and replays. It's also damn close to the arcade and less than a tenth of the cost. It's so deep and has so many different aspects to it that I expect to be playing it for the next year. If Arika had never done the previous two games no one would even blink at the Mushi port.
And you're never going to see Cave's older games coming out on PS2. It's the same issue with Ketsui. Cave is a small company. Would you rather see them stop making new games so they can concentrate on publishing their old stuff? Perhaps someday in the future, four or five games from now, the demand for their stuff will be such that a publisher comes to them wanting to do a history collection, but I think that's the only chance of that ever happening.

You've ranted several times about how you couldn't give a "rip" about the latest Cave releases...so what gives? Have you (finally) realized "teH oLE SkO0L ShOotArs" suck?

He's talking about in the states where Gekioh, Gunbird, Shikigami 1 and 2, Sanvein and Sol Divide got budget releases.GaijinPunch wrote:Budget prices? Galuda & DOJ still fetch 4000-5000 yen. Or are you referring to budget prices compared to the PCBs?Now having ESPgaluda, the Psikyo Shooting Collections, DDP-DOJ at budget priced. Mmhmm.
Feedback will set you free.

Well, I'm sorry, that you think it's unreasonable for someone who's first impression of Cave came from Saturn DonPachi, to have a change of heart about the company.mannerbot wrote:Why do you even care when it seems, from previous posts of yours, that you don't like Cave games?

And as far as the quality of PS2 Mushi is concerned, I have never heard anything but good words about it, sans complaints about rapid fire.

Exactly, will we ever be happy with shmup ports? That's a question we each need to ask ourselves.8 1/2 wrote:Oh children, will you ever be happy? It's a little shimmery. But 8 1/2, I was in no way shape or form ripping on Cave, and saying that I'm not satisfied, I was merely discussing possibilties of some of their past games getting ported.

I'm happy and content right now, i will be tide over with Mushi and Raiden 3. I guess the next CAVE games that would be cool would be Espagualda 2, not too sure about KETSUI, but would love to see GUWANGE. I guess we just need to be patient, PS2 is looking great for SHMUP fan's thats FORSHURZ, hollar. Hate the game and not the player or the playerhater.

Nothing personal dave, but do you really think the mods are here to settle the petty disputes that arise over your shmup attention defecit syndrome?dave4shmups wrote:mannerbot wrote:

I would suggest you take a small break and calm down actually. We are not your personal bodyguards to be waved as a threat as soon as anyone makes a questioning observation.dave4shmups wrote:It's none of your business why I care, and if you continue to give me crap,, as you did earlier this week, you will be reported to the mods. Alright everone, I apologize for overracting due to the week that I've had. I had a good friend die in a car accident, my "job" is falling through the cracks because the company to whom the drug test results were reported told the company who hired me that I didn't even come in for the blasted tests! All this, plus being chewed out by the mother of someone I was interested in for not being a pyschic and knowing she's engaged, and then being bitched out even more for choosing to honor the memory of my dead friend by writing her mother a letter, instead of attending the funeral.
OK, I feel better now. *sighs*
Back on topic, I chatted with Kiken last night about this thread topic, and he said that Ketsui would be more likely to get a PS3 port, then a PS2 port, because it was Mihara's pet child to begin with. Who the heck is Mihara, and what does that have to do with Ketsui coming out on the PS3 rather then the PS2?
