Now, the only thing I would like to have (more) confirmed is if you have to use Type II to reach the second TLB or if it's ok with Type I too.

Re: Crimzon Clover
I can confirm it. I picked Type II for the lulz and went to fight in Simple mode. Reached the EXBOSS2 for the first time and, bam, there I had Type Z available for purchase. Fast forward 7 days and now I bought that bastard and I'm having a blast in Unlimited mode.
Now, the only thing I would like to have (more) confirmed is if you have to use Type II to reach the second TLB or if it's ok with Type I too.

That would be nice to know, because personally, I don't like type II too much and'd prefer to play simple with the type I model.Observer wrote:Now, the only thing I would like to have (more) confirmed is if you have to use Type II to reach the second TLB or if it's ok with Type I too.

I posted something about it awhile ago, but here's the refined version:Drachenherz wrote:I combed the thread again, but I (think I) haven't found any confirmed information about how to get the Type-Z Ship.
Minimum requirements to get Type-Z (for 3,000,000 items):
-Start the game in Simple/Original mode.
-Choose any Ship (*look at notes)
-1cc stages 1-5+final boss.
-1cc the first TLB
-make it to the 2nd TLB. You can 1cc it for an all clear, but not required.
-return to the shop:
*If you chose type-1 and have not purchased type-2, purchase type-2 and type-z will appear automatically in the list.
*If you chose type-2, Type-Z should be on sale for 3,000,000 items
I tested all these scenarios and they worked. I didn't test this on unlimited mode, but I'm sure it will work.
The reason gs68 got type-Z by just purchasing type-2 ship is because gs68 previously reach EXboss 2 with type-1 (right???). So you can say that if you reached EXBOSS 2 previously and type-z is not in the shop, just purchase type-2 and it will automatically show up.

Type II is definitely the best for Simple mode, you're handicapping yourself if you don't use it.Drachenherz wrote:That would be nice to know, because personally, I don't like type II too much and'd prefer to play simple with the type I model.

I've got a Saturn USB at home, will it work on this game? Suitable?

Yesterday, I managed to get to level 4, midboss, on one credit in simple mode with Type one, with about 41'000'000 points... Let's see how I fare with the type II ship. Thanks for the tip.

Re: Crimzon Clover
I'd like to think that this game is a revival of character-less shmups given its increasing success, but it's too early to be saying that.
I find it amusing that this game doesn't have a plot, even in the manual. Not that I think a game this fantastic needs one...

Re: Crimzon Clover
As I just got seriously into shmups only a few months ago (vide: date of registry here in the forum ^^), I cannot say much about the state of shmups in general. Or to be more precise: I don't want to say much about it.
But in my book, Crimzon Clover makes so much right on so many levels:
- great graphics and sound
- cool vessels that are:
- really suited for different playstyles (Type I for Original, Type II for Simple [as I just heard, hehe], Type Z for unlimited. That looks like real good balance to me
- very motivating shopping system
- no unlimited continues
- Use of the "stars" in game: you use them to boost your score AND as some kind of money in the shop: double incentive to get more stars
- well thought enemy-placing and bullet-patterns
- good mixture of dodging and cancelling bullets
- difficulty: there's something for everyone; simple mode is very enjoyable for a shmups-noob like me and has a good beginners-scoring-system; Original mode: adds more to the scoring system without being overly complicated; can't say much about unlimited, as I haven't unlocked it yet.
- nice overall attention to detail in the game, e.g. the "bonus stars" when you enter your name and hit one of those little tanks, the Clock in the lower right side of the screen when you're playing...
- incredible production value. I mean, seriously, this game could have been published as an AAA-Title. I hope it will find its way into japanese arcade and get more exposure. It would be well deserved.
As a shmups-beginner, these are my impressions of the game so far. To sum it up: I just love this game, and I cannot put it down. It even steals my time, as I wanted to concentrate on MushiFutari Black Label, but I prefer playing CC right now...

As it is my first doujin-stg, and my first pc-stg, the clock-thingy is new to me.
And I really like not being able to credit-feed through the game. And having to unlock the training stages gives me a good incentive to play the game a few times, get "into" it, get some stars, and then get serious in the training stages. I consider that as a good approach to the game, because with this approach, you really have to put some effort into the game if you want to see more of it. It's a good way IMO to get me playing. In combination with the shop, where you can buy more continues, I think it's quite a rewarding way to make progress in the game. You have to put some effort into the game, if you want to credit feed through it. You still have the possibility to credit feed, but only if you really "played" the game. That's why I like the combination of both the shop and no-unlimited continues: You have to do something for your credits, but you're rewarded if you really do it.

I've not played much lately, just a couple of games this week. But; I finally broke out from being stuck finishing the game and went on to scoring and have sculpted the stages and patterns for better scoring attempts.
Happens all the time for me, I tend to do really bad scoring-wise for a long time then I'll be playing for fun and end up doing something that completely shatters the wall I had up. I went from getting to Stage 4 with only 206 / 4778 / 6090 to getting to Stage 3 with around 400 / 0000 / 0000
Stage 3 boss still has me losing too many lives, no time to practice that lately.
The 1 oku isn't far off.
Google Translate tells me that Unlimited Mode "is for people who like festivals."

Re: Crimzon Clover
I know what you mean, Demetori. If I'm too bound on getting a good score, I usually get too narrow-minded and I start making a) stupid mistakes and b) I don't see good opportunities outside my planned run.
If I just play for fun, this allows me to experiment more and thus see more and more opportunities for scoring. A good example for me is like that: If I haven't played a game for a few days, when I sit down and play it, I don't have any expectations to my self to play well. I just play. And most of the times, I fare really well.
But mind you, I'm just learning to play at the moment, and my strategies and approaches to games are bound to change, the more I learn.

At the moment, I don't buy credits anymore. As you mentioned, I buy stages to practice them. If I know the stages well enough, there probably won't be the need for credits anyway.

Re: Crimzon Clover
What Drachenherz pointed out about the continuous shows Yotsubane found a very elegant way of dealing with the topic. God knows the amount of posts bawwwing about infinite continues (and consequently bad reviews: "too short, too hard, you can finish it in 20 mins") and those bawwwing about not having them. It's always like that: damned if you do, damned if you don't. For one that says X, someone will say Y and another one Z. Such is the life.
Personally, I like the "if you want to continue, use your skills", very clever way of telling the player to get better and, at that point, you start spending the stars on something else like the Type II/Z or Unlimited, heh.
More points regarding the total and complete lack of storyline whatsoever. So far, it seems to be the ultimate love letter to the STGs, especially if you read the final message during the credits. No artfaggotry or shit here, just 0% moe and 120% explosions.
Samidare also has a clock running. Just commenting
And this isn't the first game to include a shop like this. Pladzma from Rezetia also features a shop where you can buy ships, power up weapons and all. (It's a doujin by the way, it just comes with a heavily complex shop for some reason) Diadra Empty offers the ability to purchase upgrades after the end of the chapters, pretty much like Fantasy Zone. In Hitogata Happa you also have to score well in order to purchase the best dolls between stages. So, yeah, shops kind of add some variety or challenge if they are well thought.
Some stuff on the CC shop could've been auto-unlockable but what the hell. I've played it so much I nearly unlocked everything but the sound test songs, lol.

A good friend of mine bought this for me for my birthday and I'm really loving it. I enjoyed the hell out of the 0.20 trial (came very close to the 1cc on that but I've been working on many different games) and the final version is very well balanced. Double Break is extremely satisfying and I love how aggressively you have to play to score. It doesn't hurt that the game is gorgeous, either. In my humble opinion, this is the best Doujin shmup ever made.

I've been playing nothing but this game for a solid two weeks now - I finally had some free time today after work and went to HEY arcade in Akihabara and promptly destroyed Ibara. Seriously - I got further and scored higher than I ever had in the previous 100 times I played. It just seemed so easy after playing CC on a daily basis. I was on level 5 before I even caught the first bullet... Looking forward to playing a bit more CC, then seeing what I can do on DFK.

Hey Rancor, same here.
For the last two or three days, I've been playing Crimzon Clover exclusively. First the original-mode, then the simple-mode to get the 1cc and the type Z vessel. (Not quite there yet, Boss 4 is still wiping the floor with me...
)
Yesterday, I played my "real maingame" again, Mushihimesama Futari BL... And guess what... Managed to get to Mid-Level 4 several times, something that happened only 1 time before, with pure luck. Now, I manage to pull this off on a constant level. And pushed my personal hiscore from 118 mio. to 142 mio... ^^ I guess, I got some point-blanking practice through playing CC simple mode... ^^
Looking forward trying to 1cc original mode after I'm done with simple mode. For me, prefering to play Crimzon Clover over MushiFutari just proves how good CC really is...
Just love it, just love it...

I am in total aggreements with you fellas on this one. Been playing this quite a bit and I tell you what: Yotsubane totally aced it with this game. As far as I'm concerned this is up there with all of Caves latest efforts, at least for now. The scoring is intuitive and feels natural - the opposite of DFK. Whilste both systems are superb, this type feels more enjoyable to me.
Honestly this has to be the pinnicle example of a game being given as much time as it needs whilste being polished to utter perfection by a master craftsman who appears to be in touch with what fans of the genre want more than a certain other company right now...
on the asthetics side of things, Yotsubane has excelled. I struggle to think of many shooters, let alone Dougin ones, that can compare with this graphically. As a comparison with the best, I think CC outdoes DFK in in many ways. DFK struggles with a lack of personality asthetically speaking, wheres CC just has it in spades.

And... If you have just a little bit of love for games like DDP, MushiFutari BL and Ketsui...
GO GET THE GAME!!!!

I notice that a lot of folks like the graphics, and that is my only gripe. I don't like the style, and I think they look too rough. But it is a very fun and polished shmup. Definitely deserving of more attention.
