It's his birthday today. Specineff, Jon, and I are taking him to Gameworks to play on the Japanese arcade cabs there and eat pizza.

The place was cool when it first arrived in Tempe, and had lots of gimmicky games that people got bored of after a while. It was very boring for several years, and then a guy who works there started buying up all sorts of Japanese arcade cabs, UFO Catchers, and whatnot. It's as close to a Japanese game center as you can get in the Phoenix area.

That air hockey table with the built-in video screen you'll see in the second video was the sex. I've never seen a table like that. So awesome. Gameworks went through a real boring spell for many years, in which mostly all they had were gun games and sports games. It's become pretty awesome. The gimmicky games it first opened up with were somewhat fun at first, but got tiring quickly (the motion sensor Virtua Fighter 3 game, multiplayer Redneck Rampage, that weird elevator ride game in which you shoot aliens with a joystick-controlled crosshair, etc). All I miss from back then was a cool Puzzle Bobble cocktail cab in the bar. That weird Namco Prop Cycle game was fairly fun-yet-awkward, and I slightly miss it. But it's become a pretty cool arcade that caters to J-gamers.

We had a lot of fun. Jon looked like a little kid when he got off of Afterburner Climax he was so happy. My TvC button mashing needs severe improvement. Greg was destroying us on Outrun. I'm pretty sure I would be happy playing that game all day (at least the huge 4 car networked one that throws you all around). I need to go back and beat Terminator Salvation and House of the Dead 4 sometime.
