Haha, I was just about to post something similar. Here's a vid I made of the Stage 4 Unlimited boss, no miss. Maybe the most fun fight I've seen in this game yet. :P

Somebody said it took Yotsubane 5 years to make this game, is that true? I thought it was only 2. I really hope he doesnt stop making shmups and we get atleast another 2 or 3 out of him over the next decade as he really know his shmups.

I just hope he knows that he is making allot of gaigin shmuppers so happy. I would love to see this game progress from an obscure doujin shmup and get localised on steam or xbla. Considering we have already seen a couple of doujin shmups like trouble witches make it to the arcades, I wonder what the chances of seeing a real CC arcade cab.

EDIT as he has risen the bar higher for the standard of doujin shmups, Itll be nice to see it have a knock on effect in the whole doujin community. As imo doujin gaming is in a rut atm with everyone just wanting to emulate touhou. How about seeing doujin circles start to drop the loli boss rush games and go back to making spaceship shmups with intresting stage progression and satisfying over the top weapon spam.

BTW someone made a YT comment of the hitbox been off, has anyone noticed anything off? (its probably just YT coments been YT comments)

I think it's somewhere in the site or buried in the readme. I wouldn't be surprised considering how long it took Siter Skain to get RefleX or Alltynex2nd done. Or Hellsinker, which took its fair share of 4 or so years after the circle behind Radio Zonde and the unfinished fighter was disbanded/disappeared/god-knows-what.

Also, I agree with the rest. But there is a slight problem: Yotsubane set the quality bar so high it might end up discouraging a lot of people. And he's not the only one. Look at the Touhouvania 2. It's a freaking Touhou fan game also inspired by Castlevania but it looks so ace it's unbelievable. Or the Umineko fighter. Sadly, not everyone can exceed at everything. Even ZUN himself started showing signs of, well, whatever. I'm glad he took a break for now.

Well, it's gonna be a while before we get something like this again... Or not. He already has the engine built so he could just make new sprites, arrange X or Y and you have Vermilion Clover: Manlier than Ever :P

Damn straight, I want this for the Top 25!

You mean like Ether Vapor, Cloudphobia, Kamui, RefleX, Alltynex 2nd, Samidare, Flying Red Barrel, Zillion Beatz, Vulkaiser, Armed Seven,

*Deep Breath*

Blue Wish Resurrection, End Effector, Patriot Dark, Solid State Survivor, or Warning Forever?

You have to be honest though, this kind of golden egg is the thing we all wait for. Even though we go gaga over our new Raidens and DoDonPachi's, these doujin games made from top to bottom by a fan is what we really enjoy at the end of the day.

Also I'm glad ZUN stopped chugging out re-hashes of the same looking shit every year, there is only a couple of his that I like.
And that Castlevania game is pretty epic quality-wise, have to spend some more time with that.

There's nothing preventing it from being eligible, and from the looks of it, it really does belong.

This game might just be the best PC based shmup ever.

I just tried the demo for that. Is it just me, or does Reimu look less girly than Alucard?

Is anyone noticing any input lag in this game? I tried it with my Logitec Dual Action controller and there was definitely some serious input lag there. I blame that on the controller. When I tried with my keyboard there still felt like there was too big of a delay between a key press and movement on the screen. I just tried it with JoyToKey and my Madcatz Street Fighter IV stick and there seemed to be the same amount of lag as on the keyboard. I'm talking about ship movement here. The shot, lock on and break buttons seem to be fine.

Am I going crazy and seeing things or are others feeling this too? Maybe I'm just used to playing the Cave ports on my 360 and this game feels different than those.

*Edit. I'm using a 24in monitor that has a 5ms response time. Shouldn't matter but figured I would throw that in there.*

When the game opens, there's a config box; choose the bottom selection on the bottom option. This will turn off vsync, and get rid of the input lag. :)

Check the third option on the boot-up window to "Off". That's the lowest of the two options. When I set it like this, I probably get a frame of lag max.
Read before you post - this has already been answered a couple of times.

Off topic, finally broke the 500oku extend, then proceeded to lose all 7 lives during Stage 4, which I have previously 1-lifed (though I still don't know how to deal with that stupid midboss). Didn't even see the boss's last phase.
Managed to unlock Stage 5. Part 1 is easy, and scoring hallway. Part two... Jesus christ, how are you supposed to deal with SpinningLasers*2? And the Stage 2 boss tries to rape you from the bottom of the screen.

Scoring hottip: You know that multiplier that is on a timer? The green number with the figures ticking under it? Well, say you had a multiplier of 5.6 and about 1200 remaining on the timer, then entered Break mode and did a full lock. Your multiplier would change to 6.4, but there would still be 1200 remaining on the timer (plus the time earned from defeating the enemies you killed with lock-on).

Stage 5 is such a gigantic tribute to CAVE... The whole game is as well, but it has the cool lock-on from the Ray series. Anyway, seeing another model of the stage 1 boss (twice as big, 10 times more dangerous and loaded with 6 times the arsenal of the original), two manly-mecha spiders from stage 2 and several stage 3 bosses in succession was glorious. The music really helps, same with stage 4 boss, which is just such a gratuitous show of pyrotechnics and badassery...

In other news, I FINALLY cleared Unlimited Stage 1 with two lives left. To think there is an entire game ahead like this stage adds another layer of nightmares. Red never looked so threatening. You have to freaking kamikaze on everything and pray to trigger the break/double break in time or you are going to get owned so bad it's not funny...

Sometimes I can release a full lock-on but Crimzon Clover is like that: the colourful, relentless, remorseless shower of ballistics, laz0rs, pew pew and such is so bloody overwhelming I'm too shocked to dodge jack.

Seeing those bosses again is one of the many great things in stage 5 (you get more of those mecha spiders if you kill them quick enough)

When playing stage 5 in Unlimited, I get a sense of a "high" when I do a full lock-on kill which fills the screeen with numbers, star, colorful bullets, and enemies everywhere.

.... I disabled the v-synch and now my ship is on steroids. I'm wondering why I didn't turn this off earlier, I can't see the screen tearing. And even if it is, there's too much shit going on for me to notice.

The bad part about all of this? Now my controller feels inadequate.... I wish I had an arcade stick try this on.

Definteley will try disabling v-sync too. But I remember, the first time I tried the trial, I had quite some tearing with v-sync disabled.

On another note. I have a question about scoring. Not about the mechanics per se, but about the number of the score itself. I combed this thread quite thoroughly, but I haven't found anything yet. What do the Kanji in the score itself exactly mean? How can you translate the japanese score to a latin score?

A different method of counting; digits in a number are arranged in groups of four instead of groups of three. 万 refers to "ten thousand", and 億 refers to "one hundred million". Thus:

1. 300万0000 is equivalent to 3,000,000.
2. 4000億0000万0000 equals 400,000,000,000.

Thx despatche.

Edit: So basically, you can actually leave the kanji and use the 0 as in the latin numbers, if I have counted the zeroes correctly?

Just another trivial question then- but where's the Staff Roll that you can buy the skip for?
Don't see credits when Simple is cleared so do they roll after Normal is cleared (like I'm ever gonna see that lol).

Yeah, finally works over and time to go home!

Trying to get to Stage 3 now on one Credit... Boy... but... I'd be playing Mushihimesama BL... It feels like cheating on the other game... *sigh*
