TATE = ro'TATE'
to turn a tv on it's side so you can play a vertically oriented shooter in full screen without any letterboxing on your monitor.

You know that's totally incorrect right?burgerkingdiamond wrote:TATE = ro'TATE'
Re: Tate
Our unofficial shmup glossary explains the word as well as where it actually comes from.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Re: Tate
So you are correct. What a coincidence that the Japanese word for vertical would be Tate and lead someone like me to assume that it was short for roTATE.JotaroKujo wrote:You know that's totally incorrect right?burgerkingdiamond wrote:TATE = ro'TATE'
I've never had a conversation about it before or bothered to look up a definition since it seemed obviously self explanatory. Please excuse my ignorance.
However this would probably explain what yoko means... I've heard that term before on here and never knew exactly what it meant.

You actually have to physically rotate it with your hands. Depending of the shape of your minitor you probably want to put something that will hold it in place safety. Turn it off before you moving it otherwise you can get some colors problems.

Re: Tate
It depends on the system your using. If you're talking about Mame, you can select the option in the properity of each game. You want to check the "don't rotate" case because the emulator do it automaticaly so you can play the game without rotating your screen. If you're talking about a video game console then you usually find the tate screen option in the options of the game.
