Thanks to rancor, I now have the game on cd, but I can't run the setup.exe . It tells me it is not a valid win32-file or something like that. Do I have to change some language/region settings in order to install and/or play the game?

Yeah, you should switch your regional settings to japanese when installing this kind of stuff. Their self-extractors, UDM patchers and crap are always a pain in the rear but nothing that bad.

Good luck and hope you can get it running!

:)

I have been toying around with the idea of getting a cheap-ish PC to have for dedicated MAME playing on my Super Emotia > 24" CRT set up, and seeing videos of this make that idea a bit more tempting. But getting boot camp going would certainly be cheaper...

Thanks for the reply Observer. Does that mean, that I can switch the regional etc. Settings to japan, install the game, and then switch back to the normal settings to play it?

Because I'm afraid of the japanese on my screen once I change the settings. :-P

lol, yeah. You can safely go back after installing (remember this if you buy the TWINS series from AqLoop because their patches require you to switch not only to japanese settings but your time/region to Tokyo to avoid a stupid timestamp error in the UDM patcher) but I recommend you to have Applocale installed and execute the game using Applocale so it runs properly. Don't forget of the Vsync trick to get rid of the inputto laggo (input lag).

There is an english launcher floating around already but since the game can and will probably get patched (Yotsubane mentioned a bug or something like that in his blog) I would wait a bit before using it. Especially if the patch is going to be one of those damn UDMs I mentioned above.

burgerkingdiamond wrote:This is nescessary? I haven't got my disc yet, but for the trail I just downloaded, extracted and played.
The game is odd in that regard. I have other games that do the same: they have a gigantastic installer with the game and a self-extracting file. Sometimes you can just self-extract and play. In other situations you have to use the installer because the package is missing X or Y file.

Remember, Japan PCs appear to work in a parallel dimension or something like that.

Anyway, back to getting owned at the TLB...

Hmm... I can't for the life of it bring this game to run on my Win 7 machine... Can't execute the .exe file, even can't unzip or copy/move the .zip file...

DLing the trial version right now. I hope that I'll get the disc-version to work. :-/

Ah, you are under Windows 7. I thought you were using XP SP3. And that's odd, according to the readme, you have two install methods: by running setup.exe or directly copying the CC pack to your hard drive. Unzip it and play.

Didn't this work?

Hmm, it could be that something went wrong with the .iso file I downloaded chez rancor... Because I cannot even copy the .zip file and the setup.exe doesn't work.

Thanks for the link, I'll look into it.

Edit: That's exactly what I did, changing the region-settings...

Btw... Trial version... runs fine. Just extracted the zip, it runs... ^^

I'm running Windows 7 32-bit with the latest updates on a DV6 HP laptop. I ran the installer in Japanese locale, with all my settings changed to Japans. Game runs fine, and no controller or graphic problems.

I suggest you wait for the real disc and install it from that if you're having problems.. It sounds like the .ISO is corrupted.
But please make sure you change you System Locale to Japanese when you install it.

Will do. Although, for installing the trial, I didn't change the locale, and it worked. It just showed me hieroglyphs in the windows where I could choos the resolution etc., but the trial itself worked like a charm. I fell in love with this game, incredible.

Now... I just have to wait until my copy arrives in the mail... Or... ask Dr. Google for a quick remedy of my problem. I consider this moraly legit.

Edit: Got it working now, it indeed was a corrupt .iso... Playing it now... So... Beautiful... :-)

I'm curious, since I'll be ordering this soon. Are you running Win7 64 bit or 32 bit? I use 64 bit and the trial works fine for me, too. I'm hoping I won't run into problems once I get the full game.

I think you should be fine. Me too, I run win64. I, öhm, organized another version of the .iso, and it works flawlessly. So: Order this gem! Totally worth it, it just feels... Right. :-)

Crimzon Clover is just purely fun for me, scoring and surviving aside. I'm far from a decent shmup player, but everything about Crimzon Clover makes me want to get better, if every few years I'm treated to something like this, well worth the time investment.

Hmm, the graphical setting is a bit funky for me... I have a 16:9 Full HD monitor. When I set the resolution to 720*480 in Fullscreen (3rd Option from the 3 topmosts at the starting menu), the Picture isn't displayed correctly. There are bars up and under the picture, and the piture is on the left side of the screen, leaving a bar on the right side also... Also the aspect ration is a bit off. If I choose normal fullscreen, the picture is displayed on the whole screen, but with an incorrect aspect ratio.

In the trial, when I chose the 3rd option, there were just 2 small bars left and right and the image displayed in the correct ratio.

Anybody has the same problem?

Edit: Found a solution, had to change something in the scaling options in the nvidia control center...

The picture is still on the left side of the screen, but now there are no more black borders up and down.

This game is amazing. It was made by one, single person, is this true???

The programming, art, direction were all done by yotsubane. The music was composed and remixed by two people, I forgot what their names are but they're in the staff roll and probably in the read me and manual.

There is one thing annoying me at the moment about Crimzon Clover.
When you do get a Game Over, you have to go all the way back to the menu to start again. It's quite frustrating when you're playing Unlimited Mode... Until I get better at I have to spend 2 minutes just starting it back up when It'd be much faster for me to just hit restart and go back to the start.

The above post worries me.

There's no need to actually install this. Just rip the .zip file off of the disc and extract its contents somewhere.

Half of the time I die is by running into enemies. No qualms with most of Yotsubane's work, but he loves to spawn enemies way too close to the bottom of the screen.

Also, the damn snakes in Stage 3. AAAAAAAAAH!

That bit's easy if you get it right.
Aim for the heads of the snakes and the entire snake will die, after the first two or three? I think it is, quickly move to where that ships comes down from the right side, kill that and move to the right and get the other.

I usually come in to the first part of the snakes with my double break finishing off, but I've done it with out it a few times and it's easy like that as well.

So far the only boss giving me a fucking headache is the third boss, the rest are fine.. I even prefer the TLB over this cunt.
The beam phase lasts way to long... I feel he should have put in another phase instead of having to loop that bitch twice.
This is attributed to me not being that great of an STG player, but I always die on the beam loop once or twice. I've tried breaking through it but I end up moving to fast and running into a bullet or beam. I've also tried to use the bombs invincibility to my advantage by back tracking a couple of beams but I always end up mis-judging it, and by then they are moving fast and I'll get killed by one anyway.

Fucking hate the beams, agreed. I'm pretty sure that after another hour or two I can get Stage 3 down pat with about 220 oku and no miss, but the boss will always steal a few of my lives.
Stupid ways he kills me:
Laser wheels!
Not making small enough adjustments during the red fireball phase
Running into the fast blue needles from the side
Running into the boss when it transitions for phase 2 to 3 because I can't fucking see where either of us are
Wonky hitboxes (seriously, this game has god tier hitbox detection except during this particular fight)

Edit: Just perfected the boss and can give some helpful observations for players trying to score/survive.
Guide to others having trouble with St3 boss (Original):
Despite all the unfairness, the fight is really simple if you correctly distribute breaks. The first phase is easy and doesn't deserve your attention. Just kill it while point-blanking and laser-spamming, so both gauges are almost full by the time the second phase starts.
Use a break when the boss finishes one full rotation of the laser wheels, then go into Double Break as soon as invulnerability runs out. If you stay close and lock on while he's doing the "Border of Wave and Particle"-type pattern, and you're in DOUBLE BREAK, then you should kill him before the second set of laser wheels comes in. The second set is really unfair, granted, but
The other challenge is trying to finish him off on the last phase. Start out by point-blanking him, then move down as bullets come out. Get a feel for his movement pattern and try to stay under him. If you shoot him, your break gauge will increase very quickly and you should be able to kill him just a few seconds after your invulnerability time elapses.

I've seriously tried that but I've never been close to phase-ending that, and I'm always as close as I can possibly be to the boss for maximum damage when the chance is there. I'm going to assume it's my break timing, I think I'll go back to stage select and try him again with the timings you used. I've no trouble with the last phase, that's got a lot of leg way for moving if you do it right.

for those of you still wondering, I retested my theory on how to get Type-Z and it worked. I cleared out my files and started a clean copy of CC.

-Start the game in Simple mode. (I used Type 2 Ship)
-1cc stages 1-5+final boss.
-1cc the first TLB
-make the 2nd TLB appear and suicide until you get a game over (don't even try to shoot at it).
-return to the shop and Type-Z should be on sale

EDIT: doesn't work with Type-1 in original mode (may I need to purchase type-2 first?)

Can someone test this and the other two combinations?

Well after playing around a little more with the 0.20 trial I couldn't resist it any longer: order placed (with Rancor).

Could someone rehash the main differences between 0.20 and the finished copy?

... And theres a "to do" list in the .exe file as well:

101: TODO: フォーム ビューをレイアウトしてください。
102: Menu
103: TODO: ダイアログ バーをレイアウトしてください。
105: TODO: OLE プロパティ ページをレイアウトしてください。

Suppose it's for the inevitable upgrade patch thats to come?
