Vs Castlevania Unisystem PCB keeps resetting itself...
Vs Castlevania Unisystem PCB keeps resetting itself...
Don't really know why...
It boots up, says "CASTLEVANIA RAM OK" and then goes to the title screen.
Sometimes it just resets right here. My television screen goes blank, then it just starts all over again. back to "CASTLEVANIA RAM OK" and so forth.
Sometimes it lets me play. I've managed to get about...3-4 minutes in? I think that's my longest play before it just...resets itself again.... I don't know what's going on.
I tried removing all the edge connectors and pluging them back in. Didn't help

Alright, found out that these are merely just to save the high scores for the board, and that's it. Just like I thought, but better safe then sorry!
Batteries removed!

Was it doing that before you removed the batteries?
Re: Vs Castlevania Unisystem PCB keeps resetting itself...
Yes. When I got it in the mail I merely connected it and turned it on just to make sure everything booted up properly, which it did just fine. Went to the title screen so I figured everything was well. It wasn't until later in the evening that I actually gave it a play, which is when I first encountered this problem (when the batteries were still in place).jonny5 wrote:Was it doing that before you removed the batteries?
The weird thing is that if I leave it off for a while then run it, I can usually play for about 5 minutes before the first reset. After that though, it happens almost every 30 seconds or so...

I'll try to see if all the chips and the daughterboard are connected when I get home from work.

And you are using a supergun and so was Arasoi?
Have you checked the voltages?
Perhaps both of you check and see what your superguns are outputting and see if there is a big difference...maybe your supergun is outputting too high and this board is finicky about voltages? Its overheating and you get an error?
Or maybe it's too low?
Certainly hope this is fixable, nothing worse than a game dying.

Re: Vs Castlevania Unisystem PCB keeps resetting itself...
I run a Sigma AV7000 which outputs at 5.0v
It has a screw to adjust the voltage. I played around with it a bit. I twisted it full one way. The board would not even start, so I thought "must not have enough juice." So then I screwed it completely the other way, and sure enough the game booted.
Weird thing was, I actually played it for like 15 minutes and I actually thought (hey, that must have been the issue~!" and then it resets
After that though.... it would reset every 5-30 seconds. The thing I don't understand that if power supply was the problem, why would it work for so long the first time around???
You mentioned yours outputting at exactly 5.14 right? I am at my parents celebrating New Years tonight, so I will test mine when I get home and try and see if I can set it for exactly 5.14v and test it then.
Maybe this board is just very, very picky??

So, I've tried tweaking just about everything I could think of, on the board and the adaptor.
I also never got my multimeter yet, I will have it back in my possession tomorrow, but I did try playing this board with probably 15 different "tweaks" to the 5v line. Go to low and it wont even boot up, and even if I go all the way to the maximum it still resets...
I really want to play this.... but it just won't work for me.

Just for public record I have refunded Vyxx his money, and we are working on a repair for the board in the meantime.
