New Genesis/Megadrive RPG "Pier Solar" getting a reprint!
http://piersolar.com/
Someone told me about this today, I had totally forgotten about this game since I saw some vids on it a couple years ago. Apparently they just had a first print run that sold out, but they are apparently doing another run for $45 shipped.
I went ahead and ordered a copy, looks neat, and it'll be a nice novelty, if nothing else.

It looks like the reprint release doesn't include the Sega CD soundtrack, either.

Yep, seems to be. However, the devs have OKed the download for the CD, so you can still have the enhanced soundtrack and sound if you have a Sega CD:junkeR wrote:It looks like the reprint release doesn't include the Sega CD soundtrack, either.

Kind of which I had ordered the 1st edition for $35 with all the extras, oh well.
Re: New Genesis/Megadrive RPG "Pier Solar" getting a reprint!
I have ordered the first edition with everything included but I still haven't received anything.
Someone received the game already?

Re: New Genesis/Megadrive RPG "Pier Solar" getting a reprint!
when was that?
but it appears they have shipped those with a cheap and slow service, add that up to the christmas mail on-going for weeks and it should explain most delayed orders.
i'm still going to get one. looks pretty neat and personally seems more interesting to me than most mega drive rpgs.

wish i had known about this to that time. it appears they are trying to get money back by having the reprint be more expensive with less stuff. the hell?Kind of which I had ordered the 1st edition for $35 with all the extras, oh well.

Don't worry about it. You can travel from the Milky Way to Andromeda and back 1500 times before the sun explodes.

I dunno about getting "less stuff", I mean, the reprint includes a full box and manual. Personally, I'd rather have that than a lone cart and CD. Plus the fact that they made the CD freely downloadable makes it even less valuable to have for me.
Re: New Genesis/Megadrive RPG "Pier Solar" getting a reprint!
Far as I know the first print comes with a box and manual too....
<@scootnet> if you were a real gamer, you could jerk it to Super Metroid box art

Perhaps they just worded their description weird then. Either way, I'm glad to pick this up, even if it is a little more expensive than before.maxlords wrote:Far as I know the first print comes with a box and manual too....
Re: New Genesis/Megadrive RPG "Pier Solar" getting a reprint!
More expensive, manual not in color, no CD, and no inserts...

Re: New Genesis/Megadrive RPG "Pier Solar" getting a reprint!
Better than not getting the game at all or paying insane inflated eBay prices. I don't necessarily think they're trying to rip anyone off with the reprint, for a small operation like this, it can certainly be costing them more to do another run, and they can't exactly afford to be selling at a loss or possibly even breaking even.Ganelon wrote:More expensive, manual not in color, no CD, and no inserts...

i just wish the reprint would come with the poster. looks pretty cool imo

Re: New Genesis/Megadrive RPG "Pier Solar" getting a reprint!
I'd be tempted to order a copy myself, but for the fact that I can't find any impressions on how it actually plays. There also seem to be an awful lot of people who've not received their copies of the first printing, which is possibly a bit more worrying.

Ive been keeping tabs on this project for a while now, glad to see it's finally released but the way they're locking and deleting threads regarding emulation of it is pissing me off a bit.
Really if you sell out every copy you have of a game for an archaic platform you gotta start going digital with it somehow. Here's hoping they do an XBLA release.

Re: New Genesis/Megadrive RPG "Pier Solar" getting a reprint!
But it's still going to be for sale (it is, right now). As long as the creators expect demand, they can prohibit emulation or anything hinting of emulation.
Since the project took 4 or 5 years to make, they want to ride that effort a little more. They're not a staff of 30 with a $30,000 per-person salary that can afford to develop 1 game a year.
For example, I'm a comic book artist. One of my books has been sold out for a while now. I keep getting requests to reissue it, so I'm planning to do that as soon as my latest book is finished. If someone ripped a previously-bought copy to the internet, it would preempt my business of reissuing it. That's not cool!

Oh, no, sorry. I should have said "webcomic". Not like the traditional comic books, like Spider Man or anything.
You know, if worse comes to worse and supply for Pier Solar can't be gotten in the future, the creators could release it for emulation and sell the ROM. That's what happened with LittleSoundDJ. The author of that is selling the ROM for only $2, a real bargain for something so functional.

Re: New Genesis/Megadrive RPG "Pier Solar" getting a reprint!
This I'd also be okay with, though I don't quite see why they're doing it sooner than later. People might think it's too little too late if they wait the time they developed onto it for a digital release of any form.ZacharyB wrote:Oh, no, sorry. I should have said "webcomic". Re: New Genesis/Megadrive RPG "Pier Solar" getting a reprint!
why did they have to dumb down the reprint?
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

from the demo I played way back, the game seemed really choppy. There was some promise that the final version wouldn't be. Of course I'd like to support their efforts, but not without any impressions from reliable people.

Look for gameplay videos on YouTube, I think you'll find the demo does not do the game justice AT ALL.Kingbuzzo wrote:from the demo I played way back, the game seemed really choppy. Re: New Genesis/Megadrive RPG "Pier Solar" getting a reprint!
I got a first print run of this and it came in the mail last week.
This game really brings me back to playing rpgs when I enjoyed them. It's got the old feeling but it is brand new.
It's all top notch, the packaging is professional.
I was thinking about buying the reprint yesterday for the clam shell case only to see that they sold out of the reprint sometime between yesterday and today, or at least it says backorder.
Good for them selling through the reprint. They were selling the first print at a loss. doing a 3rd run could be risky for them since they pretty much have to sell out or they go under.
I guess I should post a pic under the "cool stuff you just got thread"

No surprise there. The pre-orders were filled to the max for something like a whole year, and there's no piracy option.

Re: New Genesis/Megadrive RPG "Pier Solar" getting a reprint!
Does anyone have a review of this game yet? After reading about it and watching videos got me interested.
I actually really like the art design of the game too, music seems alright as well. I have my Sega CD collecting dust and I wouldn't mind hooking it up to my SDTV and giving it a go once again.
How does this game compare to other 16-bit RPGs?

Re: New Genesis/Megadrive RPG "Pier Solar" getting a reprint!
Dont follow reviews, they're generally misguided, and if you look it up hard enough you'll only find people bitching about it being a Megadrive release of all platforms. I'd imagine the developer's own website might have links to positive reviews though, and by now there should be a few more YouTube videos around.Shelcoof wrote:Does anyone have a review of this game yet? Personally it reminds me of the early RPGs that you'd see on something like a Sega Saturn or PlayStation before they went all 3D and Asian.
Re: New Genesis/Megadrive RPG "Pier Solar" getting a reprint!
I did find a few reviews of the game and it doesn't sound all that bad. The art design and look of the game really draws my attention. I've always had these gut feelings with classic 16-bit RPGs back in the days and I never was once disappointed when I played them.BPzeBanshee wrote: Dont follow reviews, they're generally misguided, and if you look it up hard enough you'll only find people bitching about it being a Megadrive release of all platforms. I'm still considering placing an order but I've read that there maybe some sort of digital version available in the future. I know the big selling point of the game is actually breaking out the original hardware and playing the game on it but I still know very little about the game to be able to fork over 45$ for it.
We'll see how things go
