Vorpal - XBox Indie touhou!
Vorpal - XBox Indie touhou!
Just tried the demo for the game Vorpal on X-Box Indie channel, and it's the closest to Touhou yet.........and only one dollar.....I'm off to buy it now but just wanted to let everyone know.
Don't just dodge bullets, dance around them.
Re: Vorpal - XBox Indie touhou!
I'm going to try this because I'm a sucker, and I hold out hope that it'll be good even though I have little fondness for Touhou.

Re: Vorpal - XBox Indie touhou!
You know, I just now saw a game trailer of Vorpal (thanks to our awesome BulletMagnet for the link to that embedded video there!!
), and it is just so kick-ass mainly for this reason that you all would want to remember: even though it looks distinctly like a Touhou shmup, the characters are *actually* fully drawn and more adult original manga-based characters instead of the usual stereotypical lolis that we have been seeing rather too much of in such games of this type over the many years, and so for game developer Red Wolf, that definitely is some path-breaking stuff right there... come to think of it, I personally found it so truly damn refreshing indeed, to be honest!!!
=b
And oh... gotta love the ship designs as well; even though they are both abstract and in black-and-white as well, I simply found them to be so amazingly well done for an XBOX indie shmup... if there were actually tattoos made of this stuff, I’ll bet you’d REALLY want it on, wouldn’t you!?
Great stuff so far, that trailer... loved it!!!

Hitbox feels off. Wish it had Tate support, but I may still pick it up if I ever feel like connecting my 360 to LCD again.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so.Elixir wrote:Hitbox feels off.
I was also a bit disappointed to find it didn't have tate, but it's still well worth the 80 points in my opinion. Good little game.

I like the clean look it has, hmmm It reminds me of a freeware PC shmup that came out 6 - 12 months back, it looked just like this but I believe you controlled the boss not the fighter. I bet theyre by the same developer
Anyone know which game im talking about? someone should know as there was a thread here about it

Yeah something is off with the hitbox.
Still pretty neat.

I love the patterns in this game. Must have for any shmupper with a buck to spare, no doubt.
Re: Vorpal - XBox Indie touhou!
Agreed about the hitbox - your ship has a visible dot in the center, but the real box is much larger.
If RedWolf is reading this, an update patch is much needed...........other than that, I still like the game.

I think that the problem is with the hitboxes of the large bullets rather than the ship. You can squeeze between tight bullets no problem but getting anywhere near the big ol' balls causes death.
Other than that, and that fact that normal is a little too easy to get through (first credit) it's a great little game. The spinning patterns surprised me and the bullet patterns were great fun.

My first real experience with a "touhou" type game. I enjoy this game quite a bit, feels like a puzzle in action. I'll probably add a touhou to my crimzon clover order

Fun game!
I endorse the comments on the hitbox though.
Re: Vorpal - XBox Indie touhou!
Just an FYI- I just downloaded the demo, upon starting the game there was a 27mb patch applied. I haven't played it before so can't really say if it fixed anything.
Re: Vorpal - XBox Indie touhou!
Hi everyone! My name is Abraham Morales and I'm Vorpal's developer. Thank you for the great comments and excellent feedback. I see you've been having some issues with the hitbox, the hitbox is a little red rombus in the middle of the ship, each ship has it's own hitbox position. Can anyone be a little bit more specific on the problem so I can address it?
I haven't released a patch/update for Vorpal, that's weird.splitt442 wrote:Just an FYI- I just downloaded the demo, upon starting the game there was a 27mb patch applied. I haven't played it before so can't really say if it fixed anything.

If this was your first time playing an Indies game or just the first time in about 6 months, that update was for the XBL Indies Games launcher and not any specific game.splitt442 wrote:Just an FYI- I just downloaded the demo, upon starting the game there was a 27mb patch applied. Awesome game, the music is great too. I guess the only issue i've been having with the game is the hitbox for the large circular bullets dont feel right-I could swear that it wasn't near the ship hitbox. It might just be me though. Will there be online leaderboards?
Re: Vorpal - XBox Indie touhou!
Nah, trust me, there's no problem with the big bullets unless they hit your core. Online Scoreboards are something I really wanted to implement, but I lacked the budget for it and for what I wanted to do, maybe in an update.Avatar Ignis wrote:Hey there!Kobo wrote:Hi everyone! Re: Vorpal - XBox Indie touhou!
Cool, sorry for the confusion!
Re: Vorpal - XBox Indie touhou!
Looks like some very "inspired" bullet patterns there, and those characters are way overdesigned. Nice to see a bullet hell on XBL though, no tate support is a bummer so can't really try it out till I plug it into another LCD.
