NTSC Nintendo Wii on Sony PVM (RGB/SCART)

Post by philexile »

Hello,

I have a Nintendo Wii and I was hopping to hook it up to my Sony PVM monitor via SCART/RGB. Unfortunately, I've heard NTSC consoles have this feature locked out.

I wanted to see if there was a way to either enable this function or to change the console from NTSC to PAL. I plan on softmodding, so any sort of hacks are on the table. :)

Thanks

I am pretty sure that as with the Gamecube the PAL Wii's RGB capabilities are the result of hardware differences, nothing you can fix by mere simple modding.

If your PVM has component inputs then that is your best bet there, the NTSC Wii has component outs instead of RGB, so if your PVM has a component inputs, which is usually via BNC ports then all you need to do is to 3 RCA to BNC adapters and you can connect it directly to one another, and the quality will be as good as with RGB.

If your PVM only has RGB inputs you will need to get a component to RGB converter of some sort. It will cost you though if you want a good one.

It's not "locked out" just that your screen will appear red.. And wrong. Component is your best bit with some sort of transcoder (or w/e for RGB).
