It loops infinitely, becoming even more boring each time.

Shmups are niche because they're an old genre. All the worthwhile innovations have been beaten out of the sack, and it's in the phase of its lifecycle that caters to a niche crowd with refined, complex desires. This is also why the platformer and first person DOOMerators aren't popular any more.

And also new consoles. You can add all the Ghzzzz you want, but you can't create new genres out of whole cloth. No - music games, wII Sports, and Defense of the Ancients aren't really new. Nothing new, diminishing returns, the world is dying.

On the upside I'll probably inherit a shitty house on a hill too damn far away from a shitty town with no opportunities for employment that could possibly offset the wear on a vehicle... so.. yay?
