Great work. Will this only be of interest when using Soft15kHz or ArcadeVGA, or is this of interest when just running the games in 480p on a CRT unfiltered as well? I just want smooth, tear-free video in TATE.
The games don't run at 60 hz, so unless you have a 15khz monitor, you'll either have to contend with a little tearing or inconsistent input lag... this is as I understand it, at least.

All CRTs, and some LCDs, will sync to 59Hz no problem.

Thing is I'm running this through an Ultracade Universal Video Controller -> 24kHz on my EGRET II and that (UVC) only accept 60Hz AFAIK. I'll check it out though.

Man, I like this game but the music is absolutely terrible. Especially that boss song with the "ooh"s and "yeah"s :|

Still fun though. Wish I could replace the music.

I thought the Espgaluda series had great music just like Mushihime series. But I can see how some people may not like it.

Personal Favorite from Esp series

and from Mushi series

Actually speaking of Mushihimesama... since Espgaluda got emulated will mushihimesama follow soon after?
Espgaluda III needs to happen.

Noooo.. It won't. If anything, a year or two give or take. And that highly depends in a lot of things... Releases like these are super sporadic at best. I mean, getting all three of these PGM games around the same time is pretty epic in itself.

The hardware that Mushi runs on has already been emulated (ibara and espgaluda2 that is) in mame.
Some mame dev made a post a couple of months ago with screenshots etc.
When this is actually going to be released to the masses is another thing entirely.

Personally, i couldn't give a rats ass about ketsui, galuda and ddp. The only CAVE games i like
(and think are masterpieces) are guwange and ibara.

Jesus another ill informed , Mushi runs on SH-3 board 1 this is still developed for so forget about any games in mame for A LONG time 2 as covered earlier in the thread the emulation of sh-3 runs at 5% and would pretty much require a standalone emulator 3 as a massive fan of Guwange and ibara myself id say you should try ketsui its definitely on a par if not better than both .

A year or two? More like 2015 or later considering Cave is still releasing games for SH3.

I already did and it's more of the same ddp madness (probably worse given the proximity idiocy).
Graphics are monotonous and nothing special really and the two loops + memorization makes it a miss for me.

Guwange on the other hand has probably the best graphics and attention to detail in a CAVE game ever,
awesome scoring system that is ultra addictive and gives you room to play the game without massive memorization
but puts you in a 'state of flow' as you play and try to become better.

Ibara i like cause Raizing rocks!

The ddp comparisons baffle me tbh its literally nothing like it right down to the core .

ESPGaluda is one of my favorite shmup soundtracks...

.....except for that boss music. It's so completely terrible and annoying. Ironic when DOJ and Ketsui had such great boss tunes.

Not when it's composed by people you'll never hear of again.

YES

It's probably Guwange's existence that makes DDP such a giant joke, it's strange. Either way, the idea of "full-stage chaining" doesn't mean diddly and squat when it actually works instead of being so awkward and foreign like DDP!

Guwange bullet cancelling and stupid boss leeching make the game suck. I don't like shiki either, but that's more of a personal thing. Learn2WR and then you'll realize it's dumb.

Since this is an issue that only affects a tiny percentage of people who are able to get the counter stop, it really shouldn't effect many peoples enjoyment. Additionally, Guwange is not really a shooting game in the traditional sense at all, and bullet cancelling is an integral part of it. Suggesting acquiring the drive, dedication and skills to match a world record in order to dislike the game is inspired though!

I don't mean go and get a world record or counterstop, but looking at that kind of things shows what you have to look forward to when you play the game. If you enjoy crappy scoring systems, then by all means, enjoy. I just find it interesting that people will complain about, for example, DDP chaining which can be overlooked if you don't want to do it when they already might overlook Guwange's chaining.

I thought the thread was about Espgaluda? :P

Anyway, shush, this game is actually so accessible I think it'll become my second CAVE 1cc. That is, once I learn how to avoid getting owned on stage 5-2 and the damn final boss. Maybe spending all my lives and bombing my way to victory.

Also, you can lolcounterstop Espgaluda? If so, it would be good to have that patched or modded somehow... (or the PS2 port could also be counterstopped?) Argh, confusion!

When did the discussion of emulation stretch to 'OMG PLZ HELP ME GET MY ROMZZ0RZ WORKING OMG KTHX'?

Looks like I'm going to have to clarify that part of the rules, should be updated in a day or two. Discussion of emulators does NOT include helping people with romsets, emulator builds and so on.

Why is this a problem? i mean distributing roms agreed fair rule but emulation help? seems a bit ott really.

Which I'm not doing; I'm taking the two scoring systems and comparing them to each other. And to me, it says that Guwange's "flows well" and "works" while DDP's (not necessarily DP or even DOJ for that matter) feels "broken" and out-of-place. So when it comes to good scoring, DDP sounds far more frustrating.

What exactly is the problem? There has been no prior rule that has ever said anything against it, and I can't see anything wrong with it. MAME is not that easy to deal with.

I understand as well as anyone else that this forum is "crap", but if you're really worried about "posting quality" or whatever, there are other and far worse things to worry about, such as the "emulation too close?" topic (terrible OP) and the HUNDREDS of "looking for a game" topics (the topic needs one really big topic and nothing else).

Shall I show you mine? *dirty-bastard-smiley*

BTT: Espgaluda in MAME? A wonderful thing. Guess what: As DDP, EspRaDe and Guwange, this game is one hell of a showcase of CAVEs abilities. And I think it has the potential of drawing in quite a few new players into the shmups genre. Why? Because it's free. (I don't want to talk about the moral aspect of this...) Because it's good. And because it's an easier manifestation of a CAVE bullet hell shooter.

And maybe, just maybe, people are actually going to buy other shmups because of this game. ;-)

So you're saying Guwange's scoring system is crap because it's crap? Hardly a compelling argument, but fair enough.

This seems particularly ironic when presented as a response to a fairly reasonably argued opinion.

I'm sorry if this offends system11 or anyone else but I gotta agree with Despatche here. It's not only counter-intuitive to crack on MAME help (as the answer gets said ONCE this way as opposed to a dozen threads popping up each asking for the same help) but it also makes the moderators look like they're wasting their time on grey legal areas as opposed to obviously shitstirring threads like the "emulation too close" topic anyway.
I realise the moderator's decision is final, but honestly I can see this idea turning for the worse in future.

I responded that way because he and I had already talked about it on IRC. :P (He isn't really new, here.)

It's stupid that about 1/4 of your potential score comes from boss leeching. This boss leeching also influences an increase in your chain, obviously, which influences a pretty good increase in your score for the rest of the game.
