My wife is japanese and well be going overseas to visit her family in a few months.
I was wondering what games I should look for when I'm in the arcade, which shmups are currently 'all the rage' over there, etc.
Thanks!
Which new Japanese shmups can be found in the arcades now?

Homura came out last week. About two (maybe three) weeks before that was Ibara. Before that was Raiden III. I don't remember what was before that... well, Senko no Ronde, but that's only sort of a shmup. More of a vs. action thing.

Check out Gigawing Generations Taito X is amazing new hardware, with tons of slowdown! (w00t!)
If you go to Akihabara, check out the Taito arcades (hey! is the best) they have a TON of shooters. I saw a guy wearing headphones, chatting on his phone, looping Gradius IV while gamers stood around him with their jaws on the floor.
Check out Ketsui (it's still widely available), Mushihimesama and DEFINATELY Raiden III.
