I don't think the sound emulation is accurate yet. But it doesn't sound as horribly messed up as DOJ used to, so it's fine to me. :)

This setting is indeed a weird one, even on the PCB. The only difference is that the laser engages quicker when you have it "OFF" IIRC. ESPGALUDA has full auto on button 4 btw.

Secret pro-tip: Hold down button 3+4 then start a credit to move the FULL AUTO to button 3 and GUARD BARRIER to button 4.

Maybe it's because I played the last days almost only DOJ and Ketui, but hell, this game is easy. I just made it on my second try to the 5. stage. lol

Is this your first time playing Esp I? I pretty much remember the layout and what to expect from when I played it on the ps2. That helps a lot lol. You'll realize its much easier than Esp II when you get used to the enemy placement.

But damn I've forgotten how brutal the last boss is in this game.

Espgaluda is supposed to be accessible, yes. Anyway, did you guys make sure the settings don't say easy or anything like that? Sorry for being Cpt. Obvious but you never know :P

If its anything like ketsui and DOJ, the roms were defaulting to easy settings, before you guys get to excited about your skills.

Go into the test menu and check. It should be set to normal.

Its weird, but esp came with normal setting while ketsui and Doj were easy. Not sure why it was like that.

Default settings are back to normal with 0.140u3 romset update.

edit:
How many stages in Espgaluda? Never seen a replay / guide and managed to get to 5th lvl almost immediately.

I guess you can count it like 6 stages. The last one is pretty short though so some people consider it like stage 5-1 and 5-2 for the last 2 stages.

Its been so long since I played this game that I forgot what the blue ring in KAKUSEI MODE over does. It goes around 3 times then maxes out.

Is it normal that the working Espgaluda Rom just runs flawlessly in shmupmame 2.2 without even fidgeting around? Because, on my computer... it is! :-P

Renaming and adding the pgm bios doesn't work for me. Both Shmupmame and 140.u3 complain about missing files.

Did you add the 140u2 release (espgaluda_v100.u38) to the zip? You still need the old epsgaluda rom.

I just recorded a INP of my first attempt in MaMe EspGaluda: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=UTAUQEXG
Several months I don't play this then I played in total third_strike style (bomb/kakusei spam). This only demonstrates which anyone can ALL this!
Ps: Used each single bomb in all live, please call me i am really dirty :P

@krokodil_final

I can only guess, but maybe your pgm bios was wrong. You need the pgm_t01s.rom. I took mine from the DOJ zip and made the mistake coping the wrong one. There is also something like a pgm_p01s.rom in there. Maybe you took just the wrong one. Make sure that your folder looks exactly like in the pic.

/e

btw I just realized how many Germans are actually in this forum, lol

I was hoping you would do this. I'll be watching momentarily. 8)

Edit: Please state which MAME version you've used, because the replay action wasn't working for me.

I have a question:
Do is it possible press 4 bottons in a mame game?
I could not do this in espgaluda and then was difficult enter and exit kakusei. What I need do?

I was hoping you would do this. I'll be watching momentarily.

Most keyboards only let you press 3 buttons, or in some cases, 2 buttons depending on which keys are involved. Some key combinations may allow 4 buttons.

This isn't a MAME limit, it's a limitation of the input device you're using.

Fourth button is FULL auto by default in MAME. Just re-assign the buttons or use the secret PCB way below.

Did you record this in ShmupMAME 2.2?

Perhaps they smoothed out the slowdown for the PS2 version but made it play the same. I've heard that Ketsui and Galuda have quite a bit of framedropping slowdown that seems to happen because of the ancient hardware and doesn't do anything except make the game perform worse. I could be wrong though.

The PS2 version also removed the sprites glitching out if there was too many on the screen issue iirc.

it works in my computer too... im really happy this ones were released... it's been awhile since i played it on my PS2 ... its been awhile since i played any of the CAVE games on my PS2... i'd love some mushi love on MAME, but i know that's not gonna happen anytime soon, so i guess i should hookup my PS2 sometime and get some love there... or play mushi futari on the X360... but for now, off i go to play ESPGaluda... looking really good.

thx mame devs, and everyone involved in making this one happen (DOJ, Ketsui and Galuda on MAME, all in one month!)

I thought people were bulshiting about Espgaluda being easy when I first loaded it up. 'Twas bloody imposible, then I realised a bit was missing somehwere, now it's fixed it's easy again.
That was the most hilarious glitch I've had in ages. The enemies (except bosses) spawned at the bottom of the screen instead of the top; having to dodge them spawning, then dive underneath to shoot them is not a fun experience.
