First Game Phenomenon

Post by FatalError »

The following is a true story.

I get Mushihimesama for my PS2. I turn on the power and place the disc in the tray. The game comes on and I change the display mode to TATE. I then start the Arrange Mode. Now, I have NEVER played this game before, so I didn't know quite what to expect, or what to plan for. I eventually die on stage five with a score a little over 100 million.

Now, I realize it's not the greatest achievement ever, but for someone who is playing the game for the very first time ever, I consider it pretty decent. So I play Arrange Mode for the second time...

AND I DIE WITHIN THIRTY SECONDS.
Every subsequent play after that, I just SUCK.

It seems that when I get a new game, the very first time I play it I do fairly decent, and then every time after that I really suck, and it takes me at least ten days of daily play to get back to where I was when I FIRST played the game.

I was just wondering if this "phenomenon" has ever happened to any of you out there.

I think it's just a stroke of luck when you first pick it up and play it, but after that, you start to pick up some techniques from here and there so you can play a game better than you originally started with in hopes of scoring big or playing the game smoothly without being all jerky-like a la Kiken. In doing so, you start to die a lot because you're trying to integrate your new technique in some areas or trying to perfect it in some areas but you slip up sometimes. That's how it goes for me sometimes.

Yeah, I know what you're feelin. Oddly enough, sometimes when I play a game for the first time I do pretty good...and then after that pretty shitty.

it is the destiny of man to be good, suck, and then climb up to that level of goodness again.

I managed to 1CC Mushi on maniac in the arcades after a decent amount of practice, but normally I couldn't even get to level 5 at that point. I've never been able to replicate the 1CC, but now I can at least get to the last level again.

Not quite the same as your initial stroke of luck, but it just goes to show how differently the same game can go sometimes... when you're on the ball, you're on it.

Yeah, the first time I played ESPGaluda I got all the way to 5-1. Subsequent plays I would lose it to the level 3 boss.

I think that when I first play a shooter, I'm more concerned about surviving and seeing how far I can get in a game I'm not at all familiar with. But after that, when I start to get more comfortable with it, I guess I kinda let my guard down subconsciously. I screw up more and don't play as well. This is later balanced out by practice and strategy development, but that takes time, and it's kinda frustrating initially.

Yeah. I 1CC'ed Wings of Wor the first day I got it (maybe my 4th play) and started bitching about how easy it was. After that, and to this very day, I haven't been able to beat the stomach level.

I think somehow the game glitched or something.

i had an experience that is quite opposite. I was playing ketsui for the 1cc..died at stage 2 so decided to credit feed..I owned stage 5 which is the last stage..and I owned the stage 5 boss..I maneuvered so perfectly that i was amazed that i actually pulled some of that shit off..Not that proud but stage 5 seems alot easier than stage 3..let alone stage 4 which is straight up vicious
The cave whore count in this thread is unbelievable!!!
