Nice. How fast can it get 10 gallons up to a boil? I've been doing 5 gallon batches on the stove and it takes forever. I hadn't really thought about using alternative heating methods.CMoon wrote:My new propane burner showed up (ordered one of those damned expensive blickmann burners as my original burner couldn't get my wort up to boil fast enough (you need a helluva big burner to do 10 gallon batches folks)), and sat out on the porch drinking beer, assembling the fucker. I'll be brewing a new batch on new years eve, can't wait!
Re: Awesome stuff you've just bought (+pics please)
Well, if your making a 5 gallon batch of beer stovetop (I assume we're talking beer), you can always do a partial boil. Just use enough water to steep your specialty grains and add the rest of your water later after the boil (preferably chilled).
Getting your boil outside though definitely makes brewing so much easier. My old propane burner took quite some time (30-40 min?) to get 5 gallons up to boil. I haven't tested this new one yet, but was using a similar model at a friend's house, and we were definitely seeing much shorter times. My big reason for the purchase though was that my old unit really couldn't get more than 7 gallons boiling tops. This one should easily be able to get 10 or more gallons boiling. That said, I'm doing partial boils myself mostly as a way to control boil over and to bring the wort temperature down faster (do you know how long it takes to cool 10 gallons of beer!?)
A friend of mine just got one of these; it's the next logical purchase, but so damned expensive:

The girlfriend got me this chair today. Can't help but like a $130 chair for $50. Looks good with my Panton that also cost $50.

I've jumped on the music wagon, finally have everything set up well enough to post a picture.

Yamaha DGX-630 piano with LP-7A pedal unit, AKG K240 Mk.II S headphones, Yamaha SK1XG keyboard (for travel - thanks GaijinPunch!)
I am still a beginner, but I feel much more enjoyment and fulfillment from this rather than playing video games, which I may still do occasionally but this is what I spent the vast majority of my time at home doing now.

This arrived a day or two ago, Aegis by COSPA's Ex_Resinya series.

More pics and info on my blog concerning this figure, here.
Previously, a haul off Yahoo Japan. I caved in and bought Yagyu Jubei (swimsuit version, sold by lottery and limited to only 1500 pieces) by Alter and Chua Churam (2008) by Alter:

So, what exactly do you do with all those...once you take them out of the box?

Re: Awesome stuff you've just bought (+pics please)
Ya'll are getting all "
" for no reason. I respect action figure collecting. You put them on a shelf and it adds 'ROOM AMBIENCE' and you can oogle at it. I have figures all over my shag-pad and it makes it look sexcellent.

I get that, and I do agree with you... to an extent. The thing I don't get is the collectors who display them all over their shag pad without taking them out of the boxes....that just looks tackydrauch wrote:Ya'll are getting all "" for no reason. Re: Awesome stuff you've just bought (+pics please)
People who collect these figures dont need shag pads.

'cause they get so much poon (or wee-wee depending on orientation/gender).kernow wrote:People who collect these figures dont need shag pads.

I don't have my display cases assembled yet, and I'm not exposing figures worth ~$300 USD to constant dust.
Maybe I'll assemble them after renovating. Or buying a house.

Kinda late to the party, but I finally found one at a bargain price:

Lolz. I've got the pad in the 40 Year Old Virgin in mind when you said this.kernow wrote:People who collect these figures dont need shag pads.
I'm partial to a few figures myself, I must admit (unboxed and displayed of course). I picked up one when I was a kid to use as a drawing mannequin (cos it was useful to be able to view manga style characters in three dimensions) and then filled a small shelf after travelling to Japan and Asia and finding some cool ones.
Alas, I sold most of them in one fell swoop to a chap on AO recently, I've just gotta clear some stuff. The missus actually likes them though, in fact she's the one who kept on offering them as gifts on xmasses and birthdays.

I waited around until I found it used for like $15 on ebay. But it actually does deserve better than that. I think it's a great game, and a nice change of pace from the CAVE variety.emphatic wrote:Kinda late to the party, but I finally found one at a bargain price:

Hey I have the exact same thing! Where did you get it?!
It resides on my bookshelf for the past 13 years! It was originally a birthday party gift from when I was 10! Lol!

I thought it was the only one of its kind, as it’s obviously a Chinese imitation of the 80's TOMY Zoids. (Very good quality too!)

It even survived after purring alcohol on it and setting it on fire!! Lol!
By the way, you're missing a piece! There is also a docked landing ship that's supposed to be attached in the holes right over those purple twin Vulcan cannons.

A seemingly ordinary NES, but wait.
(1) Disabled lockout chip and new 72 pin connector:
Games work with little difficulty, making good pin contact and no more blinking power LED and flashing screens.
(2) RGB output and resistor mod for compatibility:
Stock PPU has been replaced with an RC2C03B/G and an amp so the signal provide a sharp RGB picture output. The picture output is sharp and clear through a scaler unit to VGA, or on a dedicated 15khz RGB monitor. An additional 68pf capacitor mod increases compatibility from most games to nearly all of them.
(3) Multiple video format output and cable compatibility:
The amplified RGB output is run through a JROK 4.1 encoder, which provides additional video output of component, svideo, and composite to work on multiple TV types. The mono output is also duplicated to proper white/red audio jacks.
Standard connector types are used. The RGB passthrough and an additional mono sound output are hooked to an 8 pol DIN connector, using the Genesis 1/Sega Master System pinout. It is compatible with any off the shelf RGB SCART cable for Genesis/SMS.
(4) Powerpak compatibility:
The system was modded to work with the retroUSB powerpak(RGB NES does not work with it, without modification) so the system plays FDS games, plays NSFs, english translated roms, hacks, etc etc. Special mapper chips like VRC6 are also fully supported due to a 47k resistor mod between pins 3 and 9 of the NES expansion port.
(5) BLUE power LED mod
This one is mostly for fun.
Special thanks to DewmanSNK for doing some excellent work on this console.
That is excellent!
Where did you find the RC2C03B/G to replace the Stock PPU? Do you have any diagrams and instructions on the whole procedure?
By the way, you can simply unlock regions on the NES by just cutting one pin of one of the chips and connecting it to earth. (Its been ages since I last did it, so I'll have to consult my diagrams to specify the exact one)
I've done all sorts of modification for most of the major consoles of the 80's, 90's all the way to the PS-2 & X-box.
Here is a basic 50/60HZ & Region switch modification I did on the SEGA Mega Drive 1 & 2!

The results:

So, modding? Hell yeah! Because its just Cool!
