`Throwdown wrote: Yeah I'm more partial to the actual "stick" or "teardrop" than the "lollipop" knob. Either way it's fine - the button layout is suspect but as in most games, if needed, you could reconfigure the buttons to fit preferred style. I'd like to see the price tag on it.
Like I said, fine with the batwing stick, but there's not a remap in the world to make that button layout comfy for shmups. It's the wrong layout to do Arc System Works games justice and it lacks a 6th button so it's impossible to use for street fighter or MvC2. Hell it won't even work for UMK3. It's just was too limited.

Now to be fair I may actually get one of these because at least for the $150 it includes the LE game.

would consider it if the button layout didn't render it useless for anything but MK.

Unless you count that MK-wannabe BloodStorm as a game, which had that exact layout, sans the Run button.

It's the better layout, though. It might give you crippling pains, but those tears in your eyes as you clutch a gnarled hand to your chest are not (just) due to arthritis, but because this layout was created by a true hero, born in the US of A.

I think the only reason to buy the TE off the bat is if you think this game will sell alright (approach all 20k units on both systems) and are looking to make a somewhat risky investment. If you don't think the game will sell well at all, these packs will probably be discounted briskly to $50-100 because they take up too much shelf space. And if the game sells very well, these sticks will be in active demand and you can bet they'll be manufacturing more just as Ed Boon suggested.

Hopefully, WB announces the HD Arcade Kollection soon because that's one more good reason for having a dedicated MK stick. UMK3 on iPad using 3D polygons is a good sign of progress, although I hope they still have the original digitized footage to work with since it just doesn't feel the same without them.

Except that MK3 and UMK3 are all 6-button games (HP, LP, HK, LK, Block, Run). As are MK Trilogy, MK4 and Deception. Deadly Alliance and Armageddon had 7! Only MK, MKII and MK vs. DCU are 5 button games.

Huh? This is a 6-button joystick, MK3's exact arcade configuration to boot...

Oh shit, i missed the extended button in the bottom left, I only saw the 5 button cross. That makes it significantly more accessible.

I think it's kind of sexy in way. (Well, maybe you have to be a tentacle monster to appreciate, ironically enough.)

Lol @ concave buttons too.

I have a feeling some folks haven't actually played MK on an arcade before. The button layout actually feels pretty good for either 3 fingers or pressed one at a time. Then, you have the thumb on Run.

Yeah, this is true. Because if you try to play MK 3 on the Super Nintendo or Trilogy on the PSX or whatever, the button scheme is usually hella awkward.

I think everyone is forgetting the most important point:

A Suzo 500 should fit in this.

...perhaps with a Dremel...
