RQ: Differences between Dai-ou-jou White and Black
RQ: Differences between Dai-ou-jou White and Black
Could not find such a thread. I know this question has probably been asked a million times, so it might be better to have a Strategy thread for it. I've heard it's outright easier/balanced easier.

Here are the differences I did hear but I can't confirm:Despatche wrote:Could not find such a thread. I know this question has probably been asked a million times, so it might be better to have a Strategy thread for it. I've heard it's outright easier/balanced easier.
- I heard that first loop is harder than in while label however in exchange, second loop is easier in black label.
- Here's something I can confirm though, choosing 1-round in black label activates hibachi at end of first loop. The second loop is disabled in this mode.
- I think there are more hypers in black label than in white label.

number 3 is correct I believe. I think the first loop is made easier and the requirements to get in the 2nd easier also.
However, who's going to get there except a select few anyway?

In BL:
- Chaining is slightly less strict
- The Hyper gauge charges faster
- Dying in the second loop is possible
- The first loop's easier in BL but the second loop is harder (however, dying is possible, so it's more or less balanced)
- Some bullet patterns have been slightly altered (ie. Stage 5 final attack)
- Hitboxes have been switched between ships between labels
- 1 Round cuts out the second loop and adds Hibachi on to first
That's all I can think of for now, but there's probably more.

I haven't actively browsed/used this forum in many years and it's no longer an accurate representation of me.

And it wasn't possible in WL?Elixir wrote:In BL:

Re: RQ: Differences between Dai-ou-jou White and Black
All your lives are taken away from you when you loop DOJ WL, and you have to earn one extend if you no-miss a stage (well, you have to no-miss 2-1 for a start). You can also continue on Hibachi in BL, which was one serious complaint of high-level players but that doesn't matter for us, especially on MAME
(In Death Label you do not get extends or freebie hypers at all in the second loop, though, which makes it slightly challenging to say the least... that may be where the confusion stems from)
Edit: Uh, thanks Vyxx... I just noticed I didn't actually state how it works in BL

Came here to say this. They carry on with you (as well as in stock bombs) when you enter the 2nd loop in BL.Aliquantic wrote:All your lives are taken away from you when you loop DOJ WL.

The interview with Ikeda on GP's site seems to indicate that BL has a higher upward limit for rank.

This provides a decent summary as well.

About the different patterns - is it just me or does the second half of st3 have less drones on BL? Or rather, does the PS2 version of WL have more of them? It definitely felt easier on BL.
