Is the true last boss of Mushi on ultra really possible?

Post by landshark »

I *think* this is the true last boss. I'm not sure. I credit fed through the game today and some extra boss I've never seen popped out after level 5's boss.

Is this thing really supposed to be possible on Ultra difficulty? I just can't see a way through most of the bullet patterns. I can't even physically move a joystick fast enough to shake through the spreads.

Has it been done?

It has been done many times by Japanese players. There are 2 videos out there showing someone killing the true last boss on ultra mode:

http://page.freett.com/scarletiris/movie.html

http://www.hameko.net/uploader/upload.php?page=2
(file #984)

Since these two videos came out, someone discovered a more strategic approach to the last attack: they throw a bomb, rush to the left side of the boss to try to get that central swarm of bullets to appear on the extreme left side of the screen. If done properly, the left half of the swarm won't even appear on the screen and you will be able to dodge the bullets in a more sane manner as they are spread out more.

Yeah, before that method was discovered, the usual way was to drop a bomb, then rush up as close to the boss as you could, and pointblank it, slowly backing off as the stupidly hard bulletspray came closer. As soon as you reached the bottom of the screen, you'd drop a bomb, and repeat the cycle. Best done with Trace Formation, if I remember correctly, since you can trail your Options in front of you while you back off.

It works, if you have at least 4 lives and a full bomb stock when you start that pattern :?

How to make the True Boss Show up?

Is it only shown up in Ultra / Arranged mode?

Is there anyway to meet it in Orginal / Maniac mode?

The true last boss only shows up in arranged mode and ultra. The true last boss is also much easier in arranged mode.

I doubt it'll happen. Nobody's done that for Doom yet, which seems much easier than that shit. :)

Those vids were just bananas...especially the end. Is that not the most enemy bullets ever seen at one time in a shump?

Nice music for a final level too. Anyone know if the rest of the sountrack is as good?

The bullet patterns in this game can best be described as "beautiful" (as fucking lame as that sounds). They are pretty much artistic in nature.

As cool as they are, I think the bullet patterns in the later parts of the true final boss are just lame. They are not really dodgable and the fact that you NEED that many extra guys is well, lame.

You'd need to slow the game down to like 3 FPS to have a chance at a 1lc.

That said, I find this game incredibly fun. I even enjoy playing on ultra mode as it's fun to see how lucky I get :)

This is classic Cave again. Has anyone seen the final form of the true boss in DDPDOJ? The superplay guy gets down to his last life and last bomb and barely squeaks it out. What fun would it be if you could just bomb your way through it, or get there with four lives and know you had it pegged? They dare you to make it there without dying, and MAYBE you'll have a chance. Legendary.

Yes for DOJ, the first one was ISO, then all the people going above 2,7B can do that (like 5 or 6 guys).I don't know about DDP, i think someone of the "DDP professionals" has done it too ("DDP professionals"=people with the ZBL- handle). Doom...i know that the top players know how to dodge all the attacks, but still no "official" claims. After all, practicing after you've already dodged gazillion of bullets for 40 minutes isn't easy.

Eh? Are you talking about Black Label now? High score for DOJ looks like just above 2 billion.

Yeah, sorry, Black Label.I can't access AIVA database now (i get pr0n spam, wtf :? ) but i also think that only one ship (A-exy???) can go beyond 3 Billions...however, there should be a few guys that can do a 1-life no miss.No bomb? I don't know, Gemant told me that ISO proved this feat to be possible...

AIVA has one B-Exy listed with a 3 billion score. Though if Gemant told you he did it then it possibly isn't updated fully because the only ISO score is A-Exy 2.580.584.470 (1L, B 0).

No, it's more recent stuff, but they usually upload every three months or so, as the amount of record is big...there is at least one guy above 3 B and it should be a 1-life all bombs in stock, a certain HFD. Dunno for the rest...apparently Syo and another guy (Zuho?) can do the same on Ketsui o_o

holy crap that video blew my mind.

I would buy a superplay dvd of this game for sure, especially if it covers all three modes. let's give it a year first so people can get really, really good.

Not sure how up-to-date these are, but there's a bunch of Cave records kept at http://esprade.hp.infoseek.co.jp/hiscore.htm

One of them is Daioujou (Black Label I believe) - 3.2bil by QDS-HFD.

Oh nice link, that IS up to date. The Ketsui score is from the newest Arcadia issue. Guwange - Shishin max score clear just came out in June!

Is that a finish, or a 1 life kill?

I'm still trying to figure out a way to get through Black Label. I've gotten the last guy down to around 1/3 health before I completely bite it.

1 life, i mean. After all, 3 B on DOJ...by the way, saw the last boss on Mushi, i think it's a wimp and i can beat it on one hand, drunk. You are all a bunch of wusses -_-;

(What exactly are the generators of the pattern?I don't even get what creates all that mess).

  HOLY....  And I thought the last boss in DoDonPachi was ridiculous! One has to ask oneself after watching that first video-"Where can bullet-hell shmups go from here?". Because, seriously, that has GOT to be close to, if not at, the maximum number of bullets someone could program to be on screen at the same time.

Well, ever since the first day this game showed up in the arcades, the Japanese experts have been saying this is indeed the hardest manic shmup of all-time.
