Christmas Decorations!

Post by undamned »

So, last weekend I stopped by a yard sale and found a McFarlane Toys Sentinel. I'd never seen one before and the more I looked at it the more I was impressed with it. Mad detail and all the arms are fully pose-able. I started walking over to the guy to ask him how much he wanted for it and he shouted out "$3.00!" I was pleased with that price :D

I am seldom in town for Christmas, as I usually go see family out of state, so I am accustom to not putting up much of anything, decoration-wise, as I won't be around for Christmas day. Well, after posing my new Sentinel on top of our entertainment center I decided I could add a bit of Christmas flair to the room by decking him out. Behold the Christmas Sentinel:

Anybody else have any fun Christmas decor up?

Yoinked from a mate's Facebook, with the caption "Oh, Japan. You understand what Christmas is all about."

Both McFarlane action figures of the Sentinel and the mech suit that battles against them in the 3rd Matrix film were released. Both came in oversized boxes when sold at retail back in the day. Both do have some crazy detailing to carefully look over. The huge machine guns on the Matrix mech suit even have flexible twin belt-fed magazine strips. Lots of cool articulated hydualic pistons as well.

I haven't done much in the way of decoration (I have a tree up, but that's about it) but every year at Thanksgiving my family does an ornament exchange, with quite a few of them being handmade. I'm not so great at arts and crafts stuff, so I decided to take a different approach, and I designed and produced the laser-cut Christmas ornaments you see above. It certainly wasn't cheap to do, but I really like the results, and I'm already thinking the laser cutting approach might just be applicable to building custom enclosures for the Supergun project I hope to build sometime in the near future.

You can see more on the procedure to make these here:
Everything's Cooler When You Add Lasers: Making Custom Laser-Cut Christmas Ornamenrs

Oh, and by the way, I think that might be the second most festive-looking eldritch abomination I've seen all year.
