After playing Ketsui via mame, I really want the port now. (Yeah, I don't own a J360 yet shame on me)

this might be getting off topic, but if Ketsui is running too fast, how many other games in MAME also have similar inaccuracies that continue to go unfixed/unnoticed because they aren't as prized games to people? I mean is a fix to the speed inaccuracy going to be something comparable to getting a 3d game interpreted and running using modern 3d hardware rendering as opposed to emulating it all in software? What is considered proper emulation? Would proper emulation get down to emulating behavior of every hardware component on the board, resistors and capacitors etc, maybe like someone emulating a hardware analog synth in software? I don't really know what goes into emulating games but I appreciate that I've been able to play games over all these years that I wouldn't have been able to otherwise.

Thanks to Zakk, the speed is figured out.

The PCB runs at 59.17hz and mame was set at 60hz. The game was indeed running 1.4% too fast, this will be fixed in mame 140u3 (Haze has the info).

for now you can set the fps to 59.2 in the mame slider options

It's an arcade PCB, it doesn't use a video system like you're describing. There are a massive range of refresh rates and resolutions, and the monitor has to be tuned to each one.

Yeah, this is what people should be thinking. If you like the MAME versions, get the 360 versions. Think of the MAME versions as a stepping stone.

And as a new stgt title :). I've still got to give it a try, I don't know if having it in mame will make me want a j360 more, or help me hold off on one longer.

Or change line 1534 in drivers/pgm.c to:

I'm using both the MameUI and the version provided by austere but I cannot seem to find where to change the refresh rate.

Should I go to the control panel and try to do it there? /confusion+insomnia not helping...

Either way, Ketsui is THE shit.

edi: the scanlines make the game look infinitely better. I wouldn't play this thing without an RGB monitor or scanlines enabled...

How did you get scanlines working? I added the effect but they don't show up

Scanlines must be placed in the folder artwork.

I just did a side-by-side against the 360 port. There is definitely some lag on the MAME version. If I hit shot on the ship select at the same time on both cabs, the 360 goes first. If I hit bomb on both at the same time, I can hear the bomb on the 360 port exploding first. It sounds like more than one frame. I did the test because Ketsui felt especially sluggish. DDP doesn't feel quite as bad, but I'll have to do a side-by-side with the PS2 port next.

Also, a problem with all three of the new games is that they don't respond to the coin switch when putting a coin through, it seems to be too fast for the the game to pick up. I can only enter coins by manually triggering the coin switch. o_0

Keep in mind the 360 version is known to run faster than the PCB, so comparing the two side by side doesn't really tell you much...

I'm getting the exact same 1 frame lag with Ketsui as DDP. It's barely noticeable. DDP is supported in ShmupMAME to reduce it to zero frames, any chance for Ketsui support too?

It can tell you about lag, which is all I was exploring with that test. As nimitz wrote above, they've got the speed problem figured out now. But there's still some lag, but maybe a new shmupmame will be able to take care of that.

When I do the step-frame test, Ketsui and DOJ alike respond in the very next frame after pressing a button, i.e. it lags one frame. At ~60 fps it's acceptable to me. If you experience hefty lag in real time, it may be something wrong with your setup. Apparently Vista itself can add even 3 frames of lag.

Ketsui responds on the next frame, 0 input lag.

Nah, 0 input lag would be like Omega Fighter Special. Still, 1 frame is prety good.

Yep! I'm wrong... I didn't realize the difference between 0 and 1 frame of input lag. Whoops.

I'd say that there's some lag, but that's just because I suck at Ketsui. I think I had a few religious experiences on Stage 3, though.

Ketsui IS a religious experience. IT IS ABSOLUTE.

By the way, aside from the input lag or the speed, did anyone find any graphical glitches or weird stuff? I'll play around a bit more to see if I find something.

Also, DOJ with accessible difficulty is actually quite an enjoyable experience. I can even chain a bit longer than usual, lol.
