Whatever happened to the Ketsui Dump?
Re: Whatever happened to the Ketsui Dump?
i could try command line but im lazy
Just so people know, the binary I posted does not need any command lines, just run it from explorer and it'll work. You can even use your mouse to select the games or to type them out inside it. Hit Alt+Enter to toggle full screen mode, as per usual.
Since you've got a PCB would you mind running this test? It'll only take around 10 minutes.

DOJ is running way too fast. I didn't really notice it until the third level, when all hell broke loose.
“What did I had done!”
Re: Whatever happened to the Ketsui Dump?
Unfortunately, this test isnt what we need, instead you should time from when the bomb bar appears to the time the midboss health bar is done filling up. (as soon as the bomb bar appears to as soon as the midboss health bar is filled)
This will give meaningful results.
P.S edited, and yes this implies not dying.

Playing it right now. Oh. My. God. Ketsui really IS a relevation! And Ddp DOJ wl/bl... it is so hard, but also soooo good... I think I just came a little. To all involved: Thank you so much!

Re: Whatever happened to the Ketsui Dump?
I'm guessing you selected a battleship
unfortunately this will make the test inaccurate, I'm really sorry about this but can you do it again? Make sure you enable continuing as well to get those extra 10 seconds of frames. The figures are actually close to the emulated version so even this slight inaccuracy can create a problem.
Also, to make it even more accurate, instead of stopping the stopwatch on the scream, do it the moment the screen blanks.
Thanks a lot for your effort!!

Re: Whatever happened to the Ketsui Dump?
Ketsui has just replaced DoDonPachi as my new favorite STG.
Re: Whatever happened to the Ketsui Dump?
Is such a short test really accurate enough? Would you not be interested in the whole stage? Say no-missing up to the boss, then placing your ship on top of the boss as it emerges to get killed immediately? Then lose the remaining lives the same way? Although this would require human input at the boss, so it *could* give false results of course. Perhaps if you reach the boss and just "park" your ship at the bottom left of the screen before it emerges, then just leave the game running .austere wrote:I'm guessing you selected a battleshipunfortunately this will make the test inaccurate, I'm really sorry about this but can you do it again? Btw, perhaps a new thread regarding the "test methods to get PGM emulation decent" could be made in the Hardware or Development forum to keep it cleaner?

Re: Whatever happened to the Ketsui Dump?
It's not useless, combining the results from both our tests results in an indication of slowdown and a frame rate!
But yeah, nimitz's test is more immediately useful.
But yeah, nimitz's test is more immediately useful.
The reason for the simplicity of the test is to keep it repeatable from an input perspective. Nimitz's test, while more useful at the moment, is not repeatable without special equipment which sends the inputs to both an emulator (with zero input lag) and the PCB.emphatic wrote:Is such a short test really accurate enough? And there was me thinking ketsui was just really brutal lol I think il keep playing this to fast version though should make the real deal feel easier , in theory anyway.
Re: Whatever happened to the Ketsui Dump?
Its only very slightly faster.david peterson wrote:And there was me thinking ketsui was just really brutal lol I think il keep playing this to fast version though should make the real deal feel easier , in theory anyway.
Doesnt change anything about the difficulty. Its just as hard as the pcb-version.
The problem is that the a+c exploit is harder to execute at certain points due to the rapid-fire reacting too quickly.
P.S.: Did anybody notice the gem&ini bug ? When the 1-2 mid-boss appears it stays at the left side of the screen for a second or so before it moves into the screen area. Scrolling bug perhaps ?

I mean, Ketsui is really inspiring me to drop over the top one liners everywhere because of how representative of a different line of thinking is. It's so manly even the girls look like men. Period. It is to STGs what Chuck Norris is to his enemies: UNSTOPPABLE. It's the Alpha and the Omega, it eats DDP anal chaining for breakfast and indie artfag games for dinner and I can even tweet the kanji of "Ketsui" and half the japanese will still reply me they love it, even if they are designing Visual Novels or Touhou fan games. It's the game that screams you "I'm good, and you know it", the one where you yell "I love my car!" and it replies you "Well, I love my helicopter and you are my bitch!" and proceeds to mop the floor with your ego.
That, gentlemen, THAT is Ketsui. A piece of heaven for you to see.
By the way, screw region locking. Serious business.
/end of broken english
In all seriousness, hope the accuracy improves and all and we eventually see Espgaluda too. I want to see how it fares compared to the PS2 port.

Re: Whatever happened to the Ketsui Dump?
So I was having another run at Dai Ou Jou White Label then all of a sudden after I killed the 2nd stage boss the game went ballistic like it ran like 3 times its normal speed then returned to normal up to the 3rd stage midboss(no I did not die when while playing this)

Re: Whatever happened to the Ketsui Dump?
By the way, was this game really not portable to the PS2? Is the sprite count higher than in DOJ or what? Dunno, more frames of animation? Doesn't seem more advanced graphically to me (not that I can examine the animations diligently while I play it).

Re: Whatever happened to the Ketsui Dump?
Apparently the ps2 couldnt handle the backwards scrolling .
Re: Whatever happened to the Ketsui Dump?
This tells me you guys need to start recording a lot of input files so that these problems can be reproduced!Zeron wrote:So I was having another run at Dai Ou Jou White Label then all of a sudden after I killed the 2nd stage boss the game went ballistic like it ran like 3 times its normal speed then returned to normal up to the 3rd stage midboss(no I did not die when while playing this)

Re: Whatever happened to the Ketsui Dump?
I think it was lack of memory to keep all the sprites and backgrounds on stage 5 in check. I believe a second "loading" screen in the middle of stage 5 could have solved it but talk about anti-climatic shmup:ing.
If this will get into FBA or whatever works on an old XBox, then the PS2 will no longer be the 2D shmup console of choice.

Well if your PC lacks the ram, before playing shutdown all unnecessary background programs, switch to windows classic theme turn off unnecessary services in auto start etc oh and dont use the GUI version
austere wrote: This tells me you guys need to start recording a lot of input files so that these problems can be reproduced!Any chance of triggering it again the same way?
Hmm is it possible to start recording in the non gui version?
Re: Whatever happened to the Ketsui Dump?
Sorry, I should have included a quote with my response. I was merely stating why the PS2 port of Ketsui never happened as of my own recollection. Not a PC related response at all.Zeron wrote:emphatic wrote:I think it was lack of memory

Re: Whatever happened to the Ketsui Dump?
i had a humorous issue with DDPDOJ in which after beating the second boss the audio went crazy and decided to play back the entire game's sound bank at an insane rate until the next stage began. it was pretty awesome.

It actually has lesser system requirements than RayForce and Xexex on MAME. Neat job.

Use this utility (ketsui.exe etc. in the archive, source is included) by first unarchiving it into your mame directory:Zeron wrote:Hmm is it possible to start recording in the non gui version?

It will automatically name your recorded file according to the date and time and then save it into the ./inp/ directory. It's best to run it this way, just so that there is always a reference when there is a bug spotted. I recommend renaming the file to a description of the bug and posting it on this thread...

That's because the hw is a lot shittier. PGM barely rivaled NeoGeo almost a decade later.Obiwanshinobi wrote:It actually has lesser system requirements than RayForce and Xexex on MAME. Neat job.

Great will be using this in the future when playing the games
Everyone should download this and when something gets bugged you can always have it recorded.
