Now that Inception is, for the most part out of the theaters we can probably let Skykid know that in fact the movie was a super-hot 3 hour porno. And when it wasn't a porno, it was an amazing space shooter film with lasers and gigantic explosions. Basically tits and lasers for three hours strait. I don't know how we kept skykid from seeing the laser-tit masterpiece, especially the 3D IMAX versions, but now he's gonna have to see it on home video.
Again, great job everybody!

The Region 1 Blu-Ray and DVD versions of Inception is slated for a December 7th, 2010 release Stateside. Should be good with the cool deleted scenes and alternate ending. I'll definitely be picking this up on day one of release indeed.
I'm curious to hear Skykid's opinion about Inception when he gets the proper chance to see it either on Blu-Ray or DVD format.

For Skykid,
Have you finally watched Inception? I'd like to read your thoughts about it. Yes, I went out of my way to get the bundled Blu-Ray + DVD copy set of Inception when it finally made it's grand debut. Quite stunning to view it in 1080p format at last.

I'm hoping this thread can culminate in Skykid finally posting his review of Inception, and then we just lock the thread because it will be pointless by then.

I assumed, based on what I've seen of Nolan, that Inception couldn't be a 'masterpiece' because he's not a director of that caliber.
In January I expect to prove myself right.

Yeah... shmups.com has taught me that most things in the world are apparently. Let's see.....It's over-rated bollocks
Ketsui
Futari
Deathsmiles
Gradius 5
Ikaruga
RSG
Well let's just say anything that would at 1st seems really good or at the least seem good as in solid or above the average; then double check if a lot on the internet or media in general seem to have this opinion. Now this is the tricky part... the most important part to be careful of, your opinion is in jeopardy here...... If you find yourself liking these solid or good "things" and somehow the majority or a large part of the public (by public we mean mostly the internet) ALSO likes these things, well then you are with the majority and the majority is always wrong. Well honestly it doesn't matter if they are wrong, because as long as your opinion is different than the masses it is more unique... and remember if you are more unique and and the opposite of the masses....
You become one of the coveted... the ELITE!!!

Can only see a couple I truly loved watching in that list. A load of foreign language and personally rated stuff made this year worthwhile though.
Re: Checked out the sci-fi masterpiece that is Inception?
Inception was a decent flick at worst.... now the transformer flicks were what you and superpang described. Soon as I here things like that I know what's going on. Exactly what my post described above. Most these folks (by folks I speak of the internet and the haters) have yet to recommend something I haven't played or seen that is really great.
I know superpang has every or almost every Cave PCB..... not every cave game is created equally. Who cares, he's got the cash and you could do a lot worse than cave's worst. Like Pink Sweets versus Skull Fang........ I'll go with one of cave's worst any day.
That's the internet.... Inception get's a bucket of hate while no one moans about transformers. Why do movies or games that are at least "decent" get more hate than games or movies that clearly suck?
If I bothered taking posts like this to heart... I would miss out on most of the decent games/movies out there. It's rare that a perfect anything happens, that's why most of the days of my life when it comes to media I spend finding something pretty decent. I find myself having more fun that way.

All that matters is whether the film is any good, not being in the fashionable opposition. I'll judge it on its merits and its faults equally and then I'll see which it's in favour of.

Re: Checked out the sci-fi masterpiece that is Inception?
Saw this again on DVD, and I have to say, all the talk (I mean publicity, not actual people) about this getting better with repeat watchings is largely bollocks.
Still loved the film - the soundtrack in particular is awe inspiring - I just figured maybe I would notice extra layers the second time round and understand exactly what the hell happens in limbo. But no, for me there were no more hidden layers to explore and the way limbo works at the end still seems inconsistent with the rules they set out before (why the hell Fisher would end up in the world Cob built is beyond me since it's supposed to be Fishers dream -- unless of course it's all in Cob's mind and Fisher doesn't exist).
Not saying it's not still a very good film, I'm just beginning to get the impression the film thinks it's a little cleverer than it is. That said, it blows pretty much any other summer movie in the past few years out the water.
On a side note, don't know if it's been mentioned on this thread, but South park did a top notch parod which I happened to catch on TV the noght after I watched it on DVD.

Re: Checked out the sci-fi masterpiece that is Inception?
My real opinion on the movie is that's it's quite a solid little sci-fi flick. Something a bit different than the norm also. It's not radically magnificent or original. But it's quite decent, above average at worst.
I'd give it a solid 8 if nothing else. Even if one were give it seven.... that's quite good. Save the hate for transformers or some other horrible crap.

That shit barely ranks on a 1-10 scale. It was on for five minutes when that nondescript GI asked if his newborn "just farted?" during a video call, and that was it for me. Why? Fight Club is a great flick. Fincher ranks up there with Nolan for me (and I liked both of them before they were really popular).CMoon wrote: *chuckles* I'm just letting you know I'm passing up a great opportunity to pass judgment on your artistic sensibilities. Back to the gayness at hand: My general issue with anything that's "over rated" is that it's not the production side's fault. It's the fans...if anyone's. If someone makes the best movie or whatever they're supposed, people love it, people rate it high. The people that don't like it so much brand it as over rated. Doesn't seem fair (or applicable for me as I am pretty good at detaching myself from other people's opinions on just about everything). Now if the director makes a cop out ending or some cash-in bullshit (examples: Ewoks, Han shooting first, totally shit pop song in the soundtrack, good guy gets the girl no matter what, etc.) then you can lambaste them all you want. The movie didn't have a totally formulaic anything (including ending). It was technically a happy ending, but gloomy as well. For me, anwyay. So, unless you really feel it was a bad movie, I guess I just don't give a shit is what I'm trying to say in a really round about way.
I guess if some of the haters gave me a list of classics that made sense I'd concede. Skykid listed his a while back. From what I remember, nothing terrible but I couldn't get high at a party and analyze those movies w/ someone in the corner either.

Re: Checked out the sci-fi masterpiece that is Inception?
I liked the film mostly because of the extraordinarily tight script in which, true to Nolan's style, every detail has a purpose. This time the purpose is particularly interesting: a plot about people's subconscious, a metaplot about telling stories, a deliberate ambiguity that runs much deeper than a common open ending.
My slightly radical interpretation of the ambiguous plot is that everything we see, from beginning to end, is so apparently phony that it must all be Cobb's (or possibly Saito's) dream: he has issues with his wife, who possibly committed suicide, and he imagines the whole dream travel and inception business as a way to set matters straight in his subconscious. The important point is that even if "it was all a dream" Cobb's story is meaningful.

Re: Checked out the sci-fi masterpiece that is Inception?
I enjoyed the first Transformers movie a lot more than I enjoyed Inception if I'm honest. I was actually close to giving up on Inception half way through, I found it that much of a chore. Visually it's stunning and I do usually like blockbusters that require a bit of concentration and multiple viewings but I found inception to be 2 1/2 hours of dry, pretentious nonsense.
and I didn't like Inception much.
I shouldn't have used the term "over-rated", that phrase is far too cut and dry when individual opinion is so subjective. I wouldn't ever pretend to list the greatest movies ever made or songs ever written, I could only tell you James Camerons Alien's and Gigantic by the Pixies are my favouritesGaijinPunch wrote: I guess if some of the haters gave me a list of classics that made sense I'd concede. No fear there then.If you say you really liked the movie Last Samurai though, I don't think I'll be able to help you out.
I don't think it's me you're doing the favour, you clearly have no grasp of my artistic sensibilities when you're rocking Inception at me like it's the gift to sci-fi that cinema never had. I don't think Fight Club is either Fincher's best film or a film with anything except flamboyant, high end commercial 'artistry' - but it's a good film, no doubt. Well directed, written, performed, and stands up to repeat viewing. All cult popular movies aren't necessarily without merit primarily because they're cult, and deserve some appreciation beyond the 'what a cool movie' fandom.CMoon wrote:*chuckles* I'm just letting you know I'm passing up a great opportunity to pass judgment on your artistic sensibilities. Fincher is certainly a better director than Nolan, even if they share similar hit-and-miss flaws. My favourite of his films is still Seven - I think it's the tightest of all his works, and don't consider anything Nolan has made to be a patch on it.
Even though I'm woefully tired of Fight Club and would probably never watch it again, it's still in the upper half of his canon, whereas The Game, Zodiac and Benjamin Button would definitely be in the lower.
But I stand by it wholly (when do I not stick to my guns?). If Inception is a better film than Fight Club, I'll be very impressed indeed. I hope that's the case.
