I don't really like ign, but I have been using their site as a way to host my gaming collection. It's really convenient, but most of the time pricing is way off.
Are you sticking with your collection or are you going to sell it?

I certainly won't sell all of it, or keep it all either.
To do this inventory took a couple of hours, it was more about sorting stuff out as I can never find anything. I have no room and the attic is the desired place for it all. The high temperatures at the moment are scaring me a bit, by the time I get to play that cart or disc it may have melted.
I don't use IGN's place at all, and when I did try to list my stuff it centered around USA stuff and I have alot of foreign goods as you can see.

Yea that really annoys me too, I used to list my stuff there but alot of the games I have can not be found in their database. Therefore I use trusty old excel to create a list now (see my sig), although I have only bothered to make an inventory of my shmup related stuff.neorichieb1971 wrote:I don't use IGN's place at all, and when I did try to list my stuff it centered around USA stuff and I have alot of foreign goods as you can see.
I used to be an IGN insider, but everything went downhill there. First the inclusion of all banners everywhere. Then they messed up the file downloading process (with lots of annoying popups). And then their biased against anything not mainstream..
Even if the games don't melt, increased temperature will shorten the lifespan of CD and DVD media. Despite the polycarbonate and lacquer protecting the reflective layer of a CD, the aluminum will still oxidize over time, and this process will be accelerated if stored in a hot and/or humid environment.neorichieb1971 wrote:I certainly won't sell all of it, or keep it all either.

In short, I would not recommend storing your collection in the attic.

Usually, IGN is good about adding new stuff to their database.
If something doesn't come up in the search, I pester them with Emails.

I'm currently keeping my PSTwo in a coolish draw atm
I was gonna put everything inthe spare room but......no my mother used it as a damn wardrobe that's a waste of space

www.playright.info does not center around US stuff! It's got more games than IGN, seeing as there's also european and japanese releases in the database.

Okay, so I tried this out. I have to know though, where are the whack values coming from? It says my mint complete Border Down is worth ~$15Naiera wrote:*SHAMELESS PLUG*

A ~ indicates that a price has not been set manually for the item. There are standard prices for games for each system. For example, Dreamcast games are $15, although it also depends on what you set the condition of your item to. Mint Complete will naturally be worth more than an item set to Poor.
While writing this reply I have just added a more sensible price to Border Down. Note that the Limited Edition already had this.

Huh, scary! Although it was naive to think cd media as virtually eternal. So, what's the average lifespan of a cd? I ask because I just bought a 1988 cd on ebay. Can I rest sure that these optical things I have in my room will at least outlive me?Bishamon wrote:Even if the games don't melt, increased temperature will shorten the lifespan of CD and DVD media. I keep them away from hot or humid, though.
They should, if stored indoors. The only audio CDs I've had a real problem with were made by PDO (Philips) U.K. plant before mid'94. The laquer they were using for the top layer reacts with the reflective layer, causing it to oxidise very quickly. Some of them actually had a gold tint when originally purchased, and now they vary from deep gold to a dark bronze in color. If held up to a light, they have become extremely transparent. In the late '90s I actually had Philips replace some of the discs for me, but about half of the replacments they sent were already showing signs of the same problem.Turrican wrote:Huh, scary! Parsec is pretty awesome. My brother had all my TI-99 crap in his custody for a few years, in which time he lost my Parsec cart. He didn't lose the booklet though, so I have a nice little pang of loss every time I come across itPaCrappa wrote:Ti 99! Brings back fond memories of tape drives and Parsec. One of the first shooters I got really in to.

I never had a tape drive for the 99, but I used to save my Logo programs on tape with the Atari 400

So all those CD-based games will eventually become worthless? That should make alot of Radiant Silvergun owners a bit concerned.Bishamon wrote:

So in theory, carts will outlast optical based media?
Shmups: It's all about blowing stuff up!
Not necessarily. ROM and EPROM chips can lose their integrity over time as well, in a process known as 'bit rot'. In addition, the pins of most chips are also susceptible to oxidation. CD games are primarily dependent on their reflective layer, assuming they are taken care of (i.e. handled so they aren't scratched). At least with CD games, you can visually tell when they become noticably degraded. Dual-layer DVDs add something else to worry about; if the adhesive between the layers begins to break down, the disc can become unreadable. There have already been instances where this has happened in DVDs only a few years old.FatCobra wrote: So all those CD-based games will eventually become worthless? IMO, if you take good care of your CDs and DVDs, they should outlast you (except in rare instances). The same should also be true of ROM carts and PCBs, though my Raiden Fighters Jet 2000 board just stopped working for no apparent reason.

Er, uh, not a graphing calculator. An early 80's home computer with a 16-bit CPU and a substantial game library...contemporary of the Atari and Commodore systems, home of Parsec and Hunt the Wumpus.Naiera wrote:I can tell you for certain that we will not be adding advanced calculatorsAccutron wrote: Also, could you add the TI-99/4a?
