The Shmupers demise!

Post by ST Dragon »

So, out of the 6184 registered users of shmups forums,
1615 have made zero posts, 3753 have made less that 100 posts, 816 have made more 100
and only 141 have made any more than 1000 posts, while many haven't posted here for ages.
So it would be an estimate to say that the more familiar "daily" posters, are no more than ~200 users (And that's optimistic!).

By the way, have you ever thought of how many of the total accountable users since 2004-2005, have actually perished and gone to the fiery pits of shooting hell, where they'll be tormented there for infinite stage loops & check-points and with no bonuses, power-ups, secondary fire or bombs what so ever?! Lol!

That could explain why some disappeared, to never be heard of again...
We are mortal after all!

So I wonder of these 200 active users, half of them buy Cave's newest releases, and lets also say this forum comprises 1/5 of the western shmupping scene who also buys Cave's shit. So maybe Cave has like 500+ units extra units moved for sales outside of Japan? How realistic do these numbers I just pulled out of my ass sound?

No I haven't! When? How? Is that actually true? And how would it get known if someone actually died, unless he / she had real life relations with somebody else from here?

I doubt this forum is that representative of English speakers (lurkers lurkers), let alone Westerners at large or the other Asian STG scenes, but if you were very bored, you could probably check the world rankings for a few STGs on MyGamerCard or such, and count the percentage of Anglo-Saxon/Western/non-Japanese flags on the list and use that relative to the sales figures. It'd be rough of course but the sample should be large enough to be representative, and the "I don't use Xbox Live" factor would apply about equally to both groups.

Why are you only paying attention to "the daily posters"?

Probably because the daily posters are the ones you remember and therefore the ones that you notice go missing. One off posters are valuable members and contribute to the health of the board, but no one will notice when they leave.
Look at our friendly members:

Wow, those numbers are quite sad... :?
Although to be honest I do generally notice probably the same handful of people posting in most topics all across the boards... just seems like a small community where we all love eachother..... right

If somebody missed me - I am still alive, still playing shmup´s,
still reading in this forum and you will hear more from me then Dux
on the Dreamcast gets a Sequel ( give us "Redux" ) and the
discussion about the quality of euro-shmups starts again. :P

Maybe you ´ll hear from me before x-mas about "Fast Striker".

Some people are actually playing Shmups instead of posting about them all day, every day.
