Christmas music RAAAAGGEEE!!!

Post by gct »

I can't stand it anymore. There are Christmas songs that just annoy me and wish they would just go away, but "Wonderful Christmastime" crosses way over that boundary. Whenever I hear that song it sends me into an animalistic rage and I just want to murder Sir McCartney with my bare hands and teeth.

IMO it's not just the worst Christmas song in the history of the human race, it's terrible musically and lyrically. From that synth that drives me crazy, wongwongwongwong wangwangwangwang wongwongwongwong wangwangwangwang boopbeepboopbeepboopbeepboopbeepboopbeepboopbeep boopboopboopboop wangwangwangwang, the repetitive chorus of Hell "siiiimply, haaAAAAAAaaaving, a WONderful Christmastime", and the rest of the lyrics where absolutely no effort was made to fit the natural inflections of the syllables to the rhythm of the "music"... one cannot help but wonder what the Hell was going on when Sir Paul played back his creation prior to publication and thought "I've made a right gem here"

Ding dong ding dong

Oh my God please I just wish an asteroid would crash into this planet... Having worked in a grocery store a few years back, my heart extends to our friends who are working in retail and service, who understand all too well that hearing these God-awful Christmas tunes all day long does anything but promote Christmas cheer.

Don't get me wrong, it's not that I hate everything to do with Christmas - while I am not religious, I find the religious-themed songs such as Hark! The Herald Angels Sing to be much more inspired and uplifting than many of these heartless modern creations. "We all want some figgy pudding, we won't leave until we've had some so bring some out here" - what kind of guest manners are these? I'll tell you where to stuff your damned figgy pudding, you ungrateful bastards. GTFO of my house.

So, what songs make your blood boil? Vent here!

Winter Wonderland.

When I was working at Macy's credit department, they had every single version available playing through Muzak. I HATE IT. And I will murder whichever person sings it in front of me. MUR-DER.

And I do agree: The religious Christmas songs feel better, and won't make you want to scoop your brain out with a jagged spoon. Joy To The World being one of my favorites, mainly because it doesn't get a lot of play.

Thank god I don't work retail.

Actually I'm assuming most people who work retail must have turned to satan. Christmas is probably just the final nail in the coffin.

The only songs that don't piss me off are the religious songs. As an atheist, that should pain me more than it does. Bonus points to any song...most all probably...that outright tell you to have a wonderful time or are describing how great the season is. They're right, the season would be great...if everyone wasn't fistfighting for the hot new toy and instead was passing on the notion of what the season is supposed to be about.

I literally hear that damn wonderful christmas time song like 10 times a day at work. I'm working retail currently while searching for another position and our store loops a seasonal soundtrack with about 15-20 songs in it. Figure in 10 hour days four to five days a week...RAAAAAGGGGGEEEEEE

I knew I wasn't alone. It plays over and over in every mall I fucking hate that song, almost as much as I hate smooth by santana and rob fuckface thomas, what a couple of giant turd sucking ear rapists.

The only Christmas song that actually rocks my world is "father christmas" by the kinks

the 6 years I worked retail there were few things I hated more than X-mas music over the speaker systems...and the factory I used to work at played it the last week before X-Mas too. GAH!

"Do They Know It's Christmas" is my only favorite Christmas song besides a few religious ones.

Working third shift stocking shelves, (weeeee crashed economy), and the music never shuts off. I thought for sure they'd cut that shit after closing but noooooooo of course not. No particular musical nemesis, it all annoys me endlessly.

I love all Christmas songs, My favorite is probably I believe in Father Christmas by Greg Lake.

Greg Lake wrote:"I find it appalling when people say it's politically incorrect to talk about Christmas, you've got to talk about 'The Holiday Season.' Christmas was a time of family warmth and love. There was a feeling of forgiveness, acceptance. And I do believe in Father Christmas."

I only clicked this thread on the off chance it was about "Wonderful Christmastime." Success! What a POS that song is. McCartney's shit-eating grin on the single artwork is actually the perfect complement to the song.

I actually hadn't heard it until well after going through a massive Beatles phase in my teens, and didn't want to believe it was him. :/

Yup. There actually are a few good christmas songs, but there definitely aren't enough to go around for all of you subjected to this drivel in your work place.

The correct title is "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)", and it's indeed a good protest song. Cover versions may be Christmas songs if they remove the "war is over if you want it" choir, but the original was mainly about the Vietnam war.

On top of the rage that this kind of jingles induce on me, the worst offender is that one album (a monster surely present in different versions across the world) that has pretty much every english single in a row. They put it at work last year, along with the annoying radio hits. I think I'm glad I quit... Another round of that throughout the entirety of december would've killed my brain.

As many stated, the religious songs don't bother me. Hell, did anyone listen to the gregorian chants and such? Some are extremely badass, they kind of remind me of the Stone-Like and epic final bosses.

Another thing that makes me rage: this music coupled with... summer. I'm in the southern hemisphere, it's fucking summer here, don't come and start singing me jingles about snow, cold and winter*, or talking about Santa Claus (Papá Noel here, lol) because I cannot even fathom the idea of a fat bearded dude in heavy winter clothes surviving a 30ºC temperature at night. And the mosquitoes.

*it could technically work as a psychological technique but, usually, the only thing you get is "Turn that ·$%·"% off!" whenever a jingle starts playing.

Is this your first Christmas as a woman?

As for the Lennon song...

I found it funny as hell when I heard the Winger cover a few days ago. They actually tried to turn it into a Christmas song by exchanging the backing vocals with a guitar riff. A few of my coworkers actually stopped what they were doing and all exchanged a "what the fuck?" look.

The Vandal's rendition of 'Sugar Plum Fairies' would like a word with you.

That is the BEST Christmas song ever, bar none!

Probably the most riff-age for a Christmas song too.

I really just like music in general I guess. I'm kinda happy for the seasonal change up, and don't really mind xmas music. Sure, if I was forced to listen to it nonstop there might be a problem. But, for a month, I'm happy to sing along! My co-workers, not so much..

I need some good (school-appropriate) anti-Christmas or over-the-top-annoying Christmas music to play for my students during semester exams so that those who have yet to work their first job in retail can experience the pain. After all, I'm supposed to be prepping them for the "real world"!

For the most part I don't mind all the more popular xmas songs (though if you listen to them on loop all day it gets a bit much). The main trouble is that there are only a few dozen big xmas songs and after a while shops, radio stations, music chanels etc start to drag out the really horrible ones no one ever heard of to try and keep things fresh.

I remember being pretty much paralysed by a hangover after an xmas party a few years back and the music channel kept playing classics like Kim Wylde and Mel Smith (y'know off Smith and Jones - the one that disappeared without a trace) rockin around the christmas tree every freaking hour. I think i resorted to throwing things at the tv since I couldn't find the remote.

As a rule of thumb, if it's relegated to the 2nd cd of the 2 disk 'now that's what I call xmas songs vol 67' then for the love of god don't play it.

Ugh. If you die and end up in purgatory, that's probably going to be the song that you'll be hearing set to infinite loop on the radio.

Also, that Mariah Carey Christmas song drives me insane since it's on the radio AT LEAST once per hour. Why would any song need to be on that heavy of a rotation every single year, especially that one?

I stand humbly corrected. Still, the song is crap by any standards and if I hosted any guests who were that rude, I'd kick them out into the street without mercy. Even better if I lived in a high-rise apartment, they could take the fast elevator down (i.e. the window).

O Holy Night is quite good, if I must add something positive to this.
