1945k III and G-Stream G2020
1945k III and G-Stream G2020
Ha ha- 1945k III is such a blatant ripoff of Strikers 1945 that I quite admire its cheekiness and then it becomes really vicious really quickly.
Has anyone actually enjoyed this, and has Oriental Software made any other blatant (but quirky) imitations like the Lexus of shmups?

Yeah it is a funny ripoff. Not to mention there's a scoring bug in 3rd stage I believe. Where you can suddenly rack up 20 millions of points out of nowhere, it did happen to me few times and ONLY with Typhoon ship. LMAO

In a more serious effort, Oriental Soft also created G-Stream G2020, a raiden+raizing halfbreed by Toshiaki Fujino, who went on to found Triangle Service.

Another arcade PCB conversion kit that came with a full-sized U.S. marquee would none other than "Wyvern Wings: Space Opera" with it's Strikers 1945 series-like gameplay. Even some of Wyvern's bullet sprites look like that of the trademarked Psikyo arcade bullets as well.

Yeah, I kinda like this game. Though it reminds me more of Sonic Wings (which I dislike) series than Strikers 1945 (which I love).mjclark wrote:Ha ha-this game is such a blatant ripoff of Strikers 1945 that I quite admire its cheekiness and then it becomes really vicious really quickly.

Re: 1945k III
It's an Strikers rip off arcade game that was made using the Psikyo engine(same bullets anyway), with sound effect ripped from various sources. Here's a video.Clessx wrote:never heard of it personally. what system is it on ?

Yeah -this is interesting and you can see the influences that would later create Trizeal.Dave_K. wrote:In a more serious effort, Oriental Soft also created G-Stream G2020, a raiden+raizing halfbreed by Toshiaki Fujino, who went on to found Triangle Service.
How does the powerup system work in G-Stream G2020 then? I've got a bar on the bottom of the screen which fills up with coloured sections as I collect coloured cubes, but it doesn't really seem to do anything.

Red for shot, blue for laser, green for missile.mjclark wrote:Yeah -this is interesting and you can see the influences that would later create Trizeal.Dave_K. wrote:In a more serious effort, Oriental Soft also created G-Stream G2020, a raiden+raizing halfbreed by Toshiaki Fujino, who went on to found Triangle Service.

Not sure how the charge shot thing works, though...
Re: 1945k III
Thanks- found this game summary but google translate was my only friend. As far as I can make out, the percentage distribution of colours in the bar affects the strength and types of the primary and secondary weapons like Trizeal or Spriggan.captpain wrote:Red for shot, blue for laser, green for missile. There's something about different bomber durations too, depleting the guage and alternate stages. Japanese speakers please assist!

Re: 1945k III
As far as I recall, there's a number that describes the duration of the black hole bomb (how do you trigger it again?) however i'm not sure how do you increase that number. By collecting smokes or something?mjclark wrote:Thanks- found this game summary but google translate was my only friend. OK-got it now.Kaiser wrote:As far as I recall, there's a number that describes the duration of the black hole bomb (how do you trigger it again?) however i'm not sure how do you increase that number. By collecting smokes or something?
Enemies release medals ("photoelectric particles") when destroyed and these medals increase the black hole counter by eight points a piece if they're collected quickly enough after release. Once the black hole counter is over 50 then the black hole can be activated as a charge shot by holding down and then releasing the shot button. The higher the counter , the longer the duration of the black hole and any enemy projectiles which fall into it emerge as scoring medals (although when collected these black hole generated medals don't increase the black hole counter).
There's a classic medal chaining system where each wave of medals increases in value as long as every medal is collected but if one is missed then the score value resets.
The distribution of colours in the powerup gauge affects the level of each of the three main weapons (just like Trizeal!) and if all ten segments of the gauge are the same colour then the corresponding weapon transforms into a super weapon.
And the distance at which normal bombs are deployed from the ship depends on how long the bomb button is depressed- tap for short range bomb, hold for long range bomb.
There's also some alternate stages but not sure what determines those.
Having started playing G-Stream G2020 as a result of this thread, I must say I'm enjoying it more than Trizeal and it's a real hidden gem for sure

Re: 1945k III
Stages seem to have alternate pathways depending upon the rank level, so its possible these extra stages are also related to rank. Easiest way to increase rank is to use autofire.mjclark wrote:There's also some alternate stages but not sure what determines those.

I completely agree. There's still a lot to learn about the rank system. I also find it quite satisfying placing a well timed shield/blackhole producing huge medal fountains.mjclark wrote:Having started playing G-Stream G2020 as a result of this thread, I must say I'm enjoying it more than Trizeal and it's a real hidden gem for sure

Will check this out, but if I'm using autofire how do I activate the black hole?Dave_K. wrote:Stages seem to have alternate pathways depending upon the rank level, so its possible these extra stages are also related to rank. Easiest way to increase rank is to use autofire.

Re: 1945k III
You'll have to set up a Custom Buttons configuration in MAME. Not all versions support that feature (winky winky @ ShmupMAME guys).mjclark wrote:Will check this out, but if I'm using autofire how do I activate the black hole?Dave_K. wrote:Stages seem to have alternate pathways depending upon the rank level, so its possible these extra stages are also related to rank. Re: 1945k III
YES!! Switched to MAMEPlus!XT ,followed directions here and now have optional autofire. Those custom buttons and autofire options make all the differencecaptpain wrote:You'll have to set up a Custom Buttons configuration in MAME. And yes G-Stream G2020 definitely deserves a lot more attention.

Re: 1945k III
Early in the second stage, a wave of medal tanks start appearing from left (you must be at the extreme left bottom corner to catch the first two) and later right, as the camera sweeps to the right. Depending on how you do here, you either go to a bush full of tanks (lol) or a red WARNING appears on the screen and you are taken to a screen full of tanks.
I only now figured out the black hole bomb (
) and I sure hope it makes the game less annoying to play.
I liked 1945K III but I think the score counter only has 20K more points before a stop, where I'm at
Not close to done with the game either. Interesting point - selecting the "random" plane gave me the blue disc guy four or five times in a row.

GStream is still at the top of my hidden gem list. I would love to see a superplay of this, but I doubt one exists.
Re: 1945k III
Wyvern Wings is actually quite a fun game! Definitely a hidden gem not many people seem to talk about.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:Another arcade PCB conversion kit that came with a full-sized U.S. marquee would none other than "Wyvern Wings: Space Opera" with it's Strikers 1945 series-like gameplay. Wyvern Wings' music is comprised of Metallica MIDIs, lol.
I made this thread asking about G-Stream's mechanics, and I got a clear answer.
The game is pretty much a prototype of Trizeal, with the same medaling system and similar power-ups, and also contains the origin of XII Stag's invincibility field.
