Shmup Palindrome Thread

Post by Nate »

Ok...

If you play Galaga for 27 hours you may set a world record, but you'll surely suffer from:

"Galaga-lag"

Your turn. :P

edit: Wait!
...from the Xenocide Files:
"A useful addition (and very unusual for a homecomputer game of that time) is the console-style options menu that allows you to listen to all those excellent Hülsbeck tracks and to configure the game to suit your needs. The best option is to set the controls to 'Sega'. This allows you to plug a controller from your Master System or Mega Drive into your Amiga. Now you can use the second button for activating powerups, so you don't have to move your hand away from your stick in order to reach for the spacebar anymore. This is a great idea more Amiga games should have adopted." -Malc

Heh, I remember using my MegaDrive pad on my friend's Amiga 500 to Play Turrican. If I'm not mistaken the second button could be used for smart bomb or something. Third button didn't work though.

3 things I always do when playing the donpatch:
I tap, nod, O.D.: dodonpati

An ancient Roman proverb:
Amas e mihi, sum Musihimesama
Translation: "You love out of me, I am Musihimesama" (that's right, using dative with a preposition, deal with it)

Whatever, I tried.

:D

linko9: you're "out there", guy! very damn creative stuff - we'll take it! I mean, please...look at my second one! No "whatever", THANKS for those.

CIT: ok, like you would span (spend) long periods of time looking for "Macross: 2036" at an "acceptable" price...maybe several times equating and eventually defining those "spans" as the very procurment of the hallowed and evasive classic PCE-SCD title; I get it! For the seller, the title is just another "click" or two of his camera phone before a smoke break in an alley somewhere in Boulogne, FR.

GaijinPunch: you get an "E+", but it sparks the question: Can anyone do better than me at working with the shiniest and most obvious piece of payola that is...*Konami's "wig-out" horizontal shmup from the early nineties - recently included in Salamander Portable - PSP*

edit: Hold on, GPunch, you mean most players/collectors will own a copy of X2 an average of two times in their life...as if maybe they felt they were just "missing something" about the game the first time before they sold it off...I gotcha! A silly emoticon indeed! Great job keep up the good work!

I knew there was a reason I've been a member here for so long: where else would one ever hope to find a shmup palindrome thread?

Anyways, when a corrupt clothing manufacturer attempted to coerce an honest farmer into selling his crop to finance illegal activity, the latter replied:

"No cotton, not to con!"

"A rabi sexes Ibara". Somebody please kill me for coming up with this.

(Also, misspelled "rabbi", but that's hardly a concern here, eh.)

Scenario: You're in a new/used video game store somewhere in...Asia. You come across a bin full of brand new, marked down games. Upon further inspection you discover numerous copies of sealed titles...titles like Mushihimesama Futari, Donpachi, and Dodonpachi Dai oh jou. The store clerk is yelling at you that it is closing time and you scramble to grab as many as you can even though you have no idea how much they cost; you have the money, but the clerk is getting irritated and is threatening to call the police...and your flight leaves early in the morning! If only you had some kind of device that could suck up all these gems into a bag quickly! Some kind of machine with "Extreme Huffing Technology"! That's why you need to carry with you at all times:

The Cave-Vac EHT

*patent pending

^^ Somebody call the bomb squad!!! Holy COW, man?!?

edit: not to take away from Specineff, BulletMagnet and moozooh's entries...those are damn, good welcome to the party.

It takes a LOT to procure something of relevance. The last 2 hours of work today for me are largely "unaccounted-for" trying to come up with some new stuff...I hope I locked everything up.

Video games are a better activity than unsafe and obsolete navigation:

Woe! Sleepy triremes? Em, er, I R-Type else! Ow!

Too many interjections, but I managed to fit in a bonus "Irem".

I dissociate myself from the haughty elitism of someone who says

Someone walks into a Jamma PCB shop and is shocked that Rezon boards are currently sold out. However, the owner thinks the customer might be confusing it with this other game called Zeron.

No Rezon? No, Zeron.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

The lines between what we need and what we think we need can be woefully blurred sometimes. Take this for example: I recently came into a pretty good size chunk of "extra" cash ($225) with which I would allow myself to splurge. The problem, though was that my loyal canine friend of 14 years, "Thadeus" was in need of surgery on his thyroid that the vet had assured me would save his life. I had just enough for the procedure, but also just enough to pay off the shady Italian used car dealership and their "in-house" collections department; their phone calls had been bordering on harassment, and their tired joke about fitting me with a pair of "concrete socks" was precariously surfacing more frequently; so, I had just about had it.
So, imagine my predicament when I FINALLY discovered a copy of (for me) one of the more elusive shmup titles that I simply HAD to have for quite some time; I had purchased the console a couple of years prior just to be able to play it - despite it being the "lone" shmup for the obscure, overpriced piece of hardware.
So, the stage was set for a grueling decision on what to do with this "windfall" of mine:

God Trooper Zeroigar, Ragio EZ Repo or "T-Dog"?
