Sure it is :) To be honest i prefer to listen their more recent (and less metal) albums like In Requiem these days but Icon is a timeless masterpiece.

Shitty list but what I'm feeling now

Celtic Frost - To Mega Therion
Control Denied - Fragile art
Mayhem - De Mysteriis
Necrophagia - Seasons of the Dead
Mercyful Fate - Melissa

I'd mention 10, but top 5 is more powerful.

Great to see so many different bands mentioned in everyones Top lists, many of which I've never heard of actually. I'll definitely listen to some of these bands, it's always nice to get a chance to broaden my metal horizon :)

I've been listening to many crossover bands lately like Body Count, Clawfinger, Dog Eat Dog, (hed) pe, 3rd Strike, Dry Kill Logic.

Anyone knows any other rap / metal / hip hop / hardcore bands that are worth listening?

Flapjack, Senser, Lodestar - just a few names I recall from the nineties.
Oh yes, listen to the Judgement Night OST. Also, Bring the Noise. Heh, Mucky Pup. Listen to the sound of Wehrmacht!

Rhythm Trip was some good rap/metal back in the day. All that shit has died out by now.

Biohazard! --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqTWVcXp8JM
Hardcore with rap vocals, some metal influences and a groove that is just insane!

Or if you want crossover to the extreme (all mixed together: pop, rock, metal, grindcore, rap, funk, techno, folk, symphony etc.), then you should try out Waltari. But I´m not sure if that´s what you´re looking for.
--> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=om2YKvdAbvo

And nice topic by the way.

My top 10 list of metal albums would probably be like this if I only pick one per band (Finland rules the metal world 8) ):
Moonsorrow - Kivenkantaja
Turisas - Battle Metal
Finntroll - Ur jordens djup
Wintersun - Wintersun
Emperor - Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk
Drudkh - Blood in Our Wells
Dark Fortress - Séance
Dimmu Borgir - Enthrone Darkness Triumphant
Waltari - Yeah! Yeah! Die! Die! Death Metal Symphony in Deep C
Amon Amarth - The Crusher

Followed by:
Vader - Litany
Nevermore - The Politics of Ecstasy (from time to time I also like Dreaming Neon Black better)
Children of Bodom - Hatebreeder
Nightwish - Oceanborn
After Forever - Invisible Circles
Meshuggah - Destroy Erase Improve
Bal-Sagoth - The Power Cosmic
Amaran - Pristine in Bondage
Bathory - Twilight of the Gods
Slayer - Seasons in the Abyss

Yeah I´m not really much into classical metal styles, more of the extreme ones.

Ok, completing this now:

Iron Maiden Number of the Beast
Black Sabbath (the first one  )
Bathory Blood Fire Death

... okay maybe i won't finish this now, though i'm tempted to add transyvanian hunger.

Like the above bands, but not heard those particular albums (bar relentless).

Psalm 9 by Trouble is brilliant,
mournful cries by st vitus,
Relentless by Pentagram,
ANYTHING by Bathory (though blood fire death, hammerheart and the nordland albums are my favs),
Slayer - Reign in Blood,
surrounded by thieves by High on fire,
Megadeath rust in peace.
And celtic frost - to megatherion of course!

Just being curious... Is Moonsorrow somewhat popular in the US? I wouldn´t expect that for a finnish singing band with such finnish sound.

Oh not to forget, this would be my favourite metal singers:

Jari Mäenpää (Wintersun, ex-Ensiferum)
Ihsahn (Emperor)
Serj Tankian (System of a Down)
Warrel Dane (Nevermore)
Floor Jansen (After Forever)
Tarja Turunen (ex-Nightwish)
Mathias Nygård (Turisas)
Azathoth (ex-Dark Fortress)
John Bush (ex-Anthrax)

Not that I know of, no. I'm really out of date though with the metal scene. I mainly listen to a older black metal and 80s power metal.

Good to know some of you have quite impressive taste in metal for a gamer forum. I'd like to applaud you all for that. Honestly after reading the first post I thought it was going to go downhill from there with the hope people might post some "real" metal. But all in all I am impressed. I used to be really big in Metal but I've listened to it much less.

My top ten are...

Asphyx
Devourment
The Chasm
Incantation
Gorod
Wormed
Amputated Genitals
Nokturnal Mortum
Kiuas
Master

I have to agree on Chuck being (one of) the greatest vocalist(s) in metal. Personally, his peak as well as Death's peak was achieved with Individual Thought Patterns, which happens to be the record that really got me into guitar playing at a serious level. However that's so good to pick up a guitar in a music shop and start off with the Symbolic riff while everyone else around is playing Stairway to Heaven or some Santana's songs :D

My personal top 10 is:

-Death, Individual Thought Patterns
-Death, Human
-Cynic, Focus
-Arcturus, The Sham Mirrors
-Metallica, Master of Puppets
-Nile, Ittyphallic
-Pantera, Vulgar
-Immortal, Damned in Black
-Testament, The Gathering
-Sepultura, Arise

I am actually giving the first place to Individual, the other records are not necessarily in a precise order. These are however the records I really love, and I could go on forever listening to them without getting bored. Other than those records, I have a bunch of favourite songs from various bands/artists, but as far as full records the above are my choices.

Recently I am into more extreme and modern stuff like Necrophagist, the last Suffocation, couple of Behemot records, Hate Eternal. Nile was a big addiction some months ago, never stopped listening to them while driving to work. Going to see them live in late January in Italy.

Its funny how people say Chuck is the godfather of death metal and the fact is that Death was never a death metal band. As a vocalist, overall hes pretty decent. I wouldn't go too far saying hes one of the greatest but I guess it could be debatable to an extent. I just think hes hyped to the point where people would reword "godfather of death metal" to "one of the greatest metal vocalists", which seems kind of absurd to me personally.

Tim Aymar (singer of Control Denied) posted this a while back on emptywords.org. Best news ever:

Eric gave me a call yesterday to let me know the time has come. Did you hear that? No you probably can't believe I just said it. THE TIME HAS COME!!! Our producer, Jim Morris at Morrisound in Tampa, Florida who have brought to life notable albums by Death, Control Denied, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Savatage, Iced Earth, Seven Mary Three, Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Morbid Angel, Demons and Wizards, End-Time Illusion, and Obituary, just to name a fraction of the killer artists on their roster, has contacted Eric Greif, informing the members of Control Denied that he is ready to begin laying out the planning and scheduling to complete Chuck Schuldiner's legacy "When Machine And Man Collide". You heard it right, and you heard it straight from the horses (hey wait a minute) mouth. This record will see the light of day and be in your hands sometime in 2011 and Jim will make certain it's every bit as awesome as Chuck ever wanted and then some!!

Thanks for the rap metal suggestions. My next sub topic is: What good bands are there with female singers?

Here's my top 10. They're definitely not the top 10 of all time, but they're my personal favorites.

Slayer - Reign in Blood
Metallica - Ride the Lightning
Death - Human
Cynic - Focus
Decrepit Birth - Polarity
Morbid Angel - Gateways to Annihilation
Diamond Head - Lightning to the Nations
Carcass - Necroticism
Entombed - Left Hand Path
Autopsy - Mental Funeral

My favs:

Bathory - Under the Sign of the Black Mark
Windir - 1184
Manowar - Every album ever
Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys Pt. 2
Iron Maiden - Powerslave
Burzum - either Hvis Lyset Tar Oss or Det Som Engang Var
Leviathan - Tentacles of Whorror
Dimmu Borgir - Stormblast

Eh, of course there is more, but those are some of my favorites. Mainly into early black metal and early power metal. Probably listen Bathory, Windir, and Manowar more than anything.

Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime (88)
Iced Earth - Night Of The Stormrider (92)

Iron Maiden - Brave New World (00)
Suicidal Tendencies - Siucidal Tendencies (83)

Slayer
Metallica

Now discuss or post your own lists :D
WOW, dude we have almost the exact same taste in music. I'm a huge DEATH fan as well. Have you heard of the DEATH tribute band SYMBOLIC by any chance? They did a concert with some of the former members of DEATH and released a DVD. I just ordered it last week. I can't wait to watch it.

Your list is missing HEARTWORK - CARCASS, HEAVEN AND HELL - BLACK SABBATH, and at least one album by MERCYFUL FATE/KING DIAMOND. I would probably choose ABIGAIL or MELISSA.
Let's Ass Kick Together!
