Spelunker HD (PS3)

Anyone planning to get this game? $10,00 on the US Store, features 100 levels, 6-player online multiplayer and includes the NES version. It's still as unforgivable as the original.

I downloaded it from the Japanese PSN ages ago - that version's all in English. I like it a lot, although it's very much one of those games where death is an inevitability of almost every jump, obstacle and enemy, and progress is based entirely on memorisation.

Didn't even realize it was out already. I am definitely going to pick it up for only $10.00. Lode Runner is another game that needs a good HD remake.

There's a Mac, possibly PC version from the 90s that looks pretty good; decent fun too.

There's an HD Lode Runner on the 360, via XBLA, which is pretty entertaining.

So, I bought this and played a bit yesterday. I'm really enjoying it so far, the game is a lot of fun. Deaths are indeed cheap, but instead of frustrating you'll actually laugh at them. Plus you have plenty of extra lives so you can make lots of mistakes and still get far.

Multiplayer is also great. The maps are different from single-player and made specifically for co-op, with branching paths so players need to split up and go different ways to get all the keys. Lives are shared, and when it reaches zero and someone dies, his corpse will go back to his last respawn point and stay there for 30 seconds. If someone manages to reach him in time he'll revive, so if players work together they can go far even with zero lives.

Absolutely recommended. Can't wait for my vacation so I can play this all day.

I have the version of this from the JPN PS3 store, does multiplayer work across the different versions of the game? Would be great to play this with other people.

I just picked this up, but have yet to actually try it. Looks fun though, might see if I can give multiplayer a shot too.

I don't think so.

Ah, crap. I was hoping multi might work across different regional versions myself, because I've never found anybody else playing the Japanese version when searching for games.

Add me! I could use some people to play with. I'm pretty sure I'm cyprien1 on PSN, if that doesn't work try cyprien85. I can confirm after work today if you haven't already tried.

I'm now wondering if they will ever bring Spelunker Black to the US Store. That looks way too hardcore.

It's cool how it has that familiar tune and jump sound from the NES version.

Finally actually played this. Good times! Way better than I thought actually. The new levels are well done, the new features/traps/etc fit in very nicely with the theme, and the classic/new styles are both nice. (I like the classic but the muzak drives my fiance nuts...)

This was well worth the money. I'd recommend it.
