Rotating stands for LCD monitors
Just bought this stand for my LCD:
http://www.amazon.com/Ergotron-33-310-0 ... 880&sr=8-1
Should do everything I need in order to get the monitor in TATE orientation easily. Figured I'd make this topic to post my find or any other recommendations people here may have for stands. Something like this is a great way for those of us who have cheaper LCD monitors that have crappy stands that can only adjust tilt (if that even) to get a easy way to rotate.

How did this work out for you? I'm thinking about ordering this.

As I posted in some thread or another in here, you should be aware that many inexpensive LCD monitors were simply not designed to be rotated; chances are if it didn't ship with a pivoting stand, you shouldn't try to do so. Besides throwing the viewing angles out of whack, you could also prevent proper ventilation if the monitor was only designed with one orientation in mind.

Re: Rotating stands for LCD monitors
Yeah, but i've only been able to find smaller LCDs with no latency.
Until I can get one that has no latency(or almost none) and comes with a swivel stand, i'm gonna have to take this route.
If my monitor blows, well, lesson learned.

The stand has worked out great for me. I'm using it with an Asus VH226H. The viewing angle really hasn't been much of an issue for me, but of course, ymmv depending on the monitor. Also, make sure your monitor has VESA-compatible mounting holes.

Re: Rotating stands for LCD monitors
Yeah, I just looked it up, and it is VESA compatible.
I ordered one a bit bigger than yours(mine will go up to 30), since I have a 22, and the one you have listed says it only goes up to 20.
I'm looking forward to tating this bitch.

Pft monitors designed to be on for days - I'd be surprised if a bit of tilting makes it die... Manufacturers will do more or less anything to cut costs/potential return faults not having a swival mount is an obvious area to cut for most manufacturers; lets face it - many don't even include cables.

My monitor is a 21.5" and it works fine. Others on there mentioned that their 22" worked fine with it as well. But I suppose better safe than sorry.evil_ash_xero wrote:Yeah, I just looked it up, and it is VESA compatible.

Re: Rotating stands for LCD monitors
I got this today, and it's definitely a very solid stand, though I've got a concern. It only rotates the monitor clockwise.... is that going to be an issue for playing shmups in tate mode? Like, cuz I'm afraid that there's going to be a bunch of shooters that will basically run upside down with the monitor oriented this way.

Re: Rotating stands for LCD monitors
Every shmup on 360 allows you to rotate that way, and MAME can rotate that way as well. It shouldn't be a problem.Chacranajxy wrote:I got this today, and it's definitely a very solid stand, though I've got a concern. That's good... because this setup is basically just for the 360. Out of curiosity, will Battle Garegga or Batsugun or some of those neat Saturn shmups have issues?drunkninja24 wrote:Every shmup on 360 allows you to rotate that way, and MAME can rotate that way as well. Re: Rotating stands for LCD monitors
I had the same problem, I don't know about your stand, but on mine I was able to mount the stand in the vertical position while the monitor was oriented horizontally- if that makes any sense, so now my monitor rotates counter clockwise- I prefffer it that way since most/all PCBs I've owned default to this position, for the Xbox 360 however as someone earlier mentioned, it is not a problem.Chacranajxy wrote:I got this today, and it's definitely a very solid stand, though I've got a concern. Re: Rotating stands for LCD monitors
Right, or mount your monitor vertically while the stand is horizontal - VESA is a square so you can mount it any of 4 waysSpacemonkey wrote:I had the same problem, I don't know about your stand, but on mine I was able to mount the stand in the vertical position while the monitor was oriented horizontally- if that makes any sense, so now my monitor rotates counter clockwise- I prefffer it that way since most/all PCBs I've owned default to this position, for the Xbox 360 however as someone earlier mentioned, it is not a problem.Chacranajxy wrote:I got this today, and it's definitely a very solid stand, though I've got a concern. I had a 17" 5:4 monitor that came with its own rotating stand, and that was not VESA, so the CCW rotation involved my having to take the rotating mechanism apart and reassemble it pre-rotated. That monitor has since died and I'm now using an Asus V242H, I think I will get this Neo-flex stand within the next month

Re: Rotating stands for LCD monitors
This Neo-Flex monitor stand is pretty much the same as the 3M produced rotatable monitor stand. I bought a 3M rotating monitor stand from my local Staples store for $49.99 and well worth every penny. Mainly use it for them 360 shmup titles in tate mode. You can use up to a 24" sized 16:10 widescreen LCD monitor/TV setup with either Neo-Flex or 3M rotating monitor stand and still have a bit of extra free space gap (between the monitor's frame edge & the monitor stand's base) if put in tate mode. Just have to extend the monitor stand to it's highest height position & you're good to go.

Re: Rotating stands for LCD monitors
I pretty much thought the same thing until a 22" monitor I had ghetto-tate'd at Magfest last year started doing really strange things after a couple hours (besides the fact the viewing angles were so bad there was no way to see the top and bottom of the Futari play screen at the same time).gray117 wrote:Pft monitors designed to be on for days - I'd be surprised if a bit of tilting makes it die... Re: Rotating stands for LCD monitors
If money isn't an issue, I'd recommend the Ergotron LX mount as it can rotate 360 degrees and will save you desk space
, own one myself and love it

Re: Rotating stands for LCD monitors
ive been wanting a rotating mount for awhile now and finally ordered the one in the op thanks to this thread.
didnt want to spend so much on a simple stand but i guess they really dont come any cheaper, and its a pittance compared to the amount ive spent on games that will benefit from the stand.
that and my wife will be happy when i put the old crt and other spare monitors away in storage im sure.

Re: Rotating stands for LCD monitors
The rotation of the stand is not one way. It depends on how you mount it to begin with.
If you turn the mount clockwise as far as it will go and then mount the screen horizontally, the only way it will turn is anti clockwise (your best bet).
For Saturn shooters you need this. Unfortunately if you ever find a product that only works the other way around your going to have to take the screen off, put the mount as far anti clockwise that will go, then mount the screen horiztonally then it will turn the other way (clockwise).
The beauty is the screw holes are square so your never truly restricted.

This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
Re: Rotating stands for LCD monitors
got it today. very nice quality. went together in minutes. i like the thumbscrews you can use to mount the monitor.
cant wait to set up a few games for this monitor and give it a whirl.

Haha, why in the world did I not think of this? Works well too, and now my monitor rotates the "correct" direction for shmups.neorichieb1971 wrote:The rotation of the stand is not one way. It depends on how you mount it to begin with.

Re: Rotating stands for LCD monitors
I'm fairly sure my Dell uses a proprietary mounting system that doesn't allow me to do this unfortunately =/
Has anyone seen anything similar to this at a brick and mortar store? I actually went looking at Micro Center for something like this over the weekend to serve as a replacement for a TV in Anime USA's game room where the factory stand actually broke off, but they only had wall-mount dealies =/

Re: Rotating stands for LCD monitors
Just ordered the OP model REALLY cheap. Great to finally put my spare 22" Acer to use (will probably be TATE all the time with a PS2 or DreamCast).
