A year or so ago, I posted a game that I made called Rescue at Grisly Gulch. Some of you even played it, and one of you actually beat it (congratulations!). Since then I've made another game call Dr. Coffin's Cursed Maze. I used OHRRPGCE to write it, which is a pretty old school game creation engine made in Freebasic (but still with an active forum).
Dr. Coffin's Cursed Maze is a supernatural themed dungeon crawling RPG with all original graphics by me (as if you couldn't tell). It has a battle system highly reminiscent of 16-bit Final Fantasy and is somewhat difficult.
Curious folks can download it and see screenshots here: http://www.slimesalad.com/forum/viewgame.php?t=3838
Check it out and hit me up with feedback, bug fixes, typos, etc.
In summary:
"After your death, you awake in a mysterious labyrinthine afterlife. The dark figure of Dr. Coffin haunts you constantly. Can you escape this hopeless landscape and reach the eternity you deserve?
*Over 3 hours of single character dungeon crawling.
*Over 40 different enemies.
*Atmospheric descriptions and dialogue.
*Character customization through attribute boosting items."

I almost beat multiple versions too! \o/Andi wrote:Some of you even played it, and one of you actually beat it (congratulations!).
OK, the graphics of this are giving me a hardcore 90s shareware feeling...ROCK ON
And it looks like I'm Afterlife Customer #2.
Edit: That Noose item is great, but I don't know what I'd be doing without it. Probably crying and gnashing my teeth, lots.

Oh Man! - I agree with Ed - I LOVE the look / feel of this game. Reminds me of being back in jr. high school again on my old Packard Bell 486.
I'll for sure be playing this more tonight. Great work Andi!

Thanks for playing, and keep plugging away at it.
The manual included in the game folder (coffinhelp.txt) has lots of useful information about the game mechanics as well as some imperative hints. Take a look if you are getting frustrated.

Re: I made a game: Dr. Coffin's Cursed Maze
All done! No spoilers I guess - my final score was 25/30.
Actually, spoiler maybe - Dr. Coffin himself went down in one hit. I didn't have to soften him up or anything. Was rather bizarre. I hit one of his minions first, maybe I made the right choice? Didn't kill it though. And the ending was - is that the Looney Tunes circle in the background?

played thru yesterday/last nite. Fun times. I liked the enemy sprites. Didnt like how i got destroyed for the first bit but once I leveled up abit the game was a breeze. The boss was 2 gifts for me.
Is there gonna be a sequel??

Maybe I should make him harder? I'm wasn't sure how leveled people would be. Balancing difficulty for this was really hard. The first version only had one save point per level and most people got pissed and quit really fast. I also didn't know how many of the hidden items people would bother to find.
No sequel planned, but I'm working on another game called The Wizurd of Woberon which is a sci-fi themed side-scrolling RPG. It's got 3 selectable classes and a pretty significant character customization scheme. I'll probably have a playable version in a few months.
Dr. Coffin and his minions can be killed in 1 or 2 attacks if you boost your Faith stat up. The other way to beat them is to use the regeneration power (I can't remember what it's called) and go to town with physical attacks.Ed Oscuro wrote:All done! No spoilers I guess - my final score was 25/30.

Hmm. Possibly some rebalancing is in order. At what point did the game get easy? After the first area?brendz wrote:played thru yesterday/last nite. Fun times. I liked the enemy sprites.
