XII Stag for PS-2...

Post by ST Dragon »

OK, so I'm going to try to complete my PS-2 Shoot Em Up collection today... XII Stag (EURO-PAL) was very hard to find & have been searching for months.
I finally spotted it today at a video club. The disc is near mint condition (Hasn't been rented too many times) but the bastid is asking 40Euros (48$) for it!
I'm not sure if he has the PS-2 DVD Box... he does have the manual & box cover however.

So is it worth this price?
Cause if I don't get it from there, I'll have to order it from the internet & that's something I would like to avoid.
There is no way I'll find this from any shop, as I've searched everywhere!

Seeing how you can order it from Amazon.co.uk for almost a third of that, I'd say it's not worth it. The PAL version shouldn't be more than 20 EUR anywhere.

I'm curious, why would you want to avoid ordering games off the internet? As long as you use respectable sellers you have nothing to fear.

XII Stag plays like an early-90s mediocre megadrive shooter.

There I said it.

Well, patience isn't one of my virtues & I don't like waiting 5-6 days to receive the thing...
Anyways I'm quite fond of Early 90s MD shooters…

Worth getting for cheap? Maybe. 50 bucks? Personally, I don't think so.

This game gets a totally undeserved amount of flak.
Way better than any of the shit put out recently --- better than Chaos Field --- better than Trizeal --- way more soul put into it than Raiden 3.

Great game with classic old school "feel"

It's definitely worth it if you're into shooters.

It's definitely not worth more than the €15 or so it SHOULD cost.

I hated it. I guess opinions differ. I thought it was the least interesting shmup I've played in years.

How does it compared to RayStorm, RayForce & Raiden I - II - Fighters & 1945 Strikers II, in graphics, music & gameplay departments?

Are the graphics bitmap like Raiden I & II or polygons like RayStorm?

There's quite a decent review up over at NTSC-UK.

More like pre-rendered sprites. The backgrounds look a little Raiden II-esque but more polished. The sprite animations/scaling are pretty nice, but it's nothing that Soukyugurentai didn't do better.

I brought this game today for £7.99 brand new and I happen to like this game quite a lot but saying that my view may be a little "tainted" since I did get it so cheaply plus my local import store are trying to flog it for £40 which I laughed at once I saw this at Gamestation lol.

I like how this game feels, OK so it's not the greatest shmup in the world but it's a very nice example of one and at least it tries to do something a little differnt and the gameplay is nicely paced and simple enough to understand.

Yeah I would recommend this gamem don't exspect the greatest game ever but it's worth picking up I feel specialy for the current price it's now going at!

There was a PC demo of the game you could D/L from Triangle Service's website (back before the release of the DC version of Trizeal).

I can't find it on the website ATM (maybe they removed it?). I could probably e-mail you the install file (I'm pretty sure it's under 8 MB). Or, would someone else be willing to host the file for a day or two?

No. Just a single stage demo. But if you want to try out the game, it's a good way to do so.

Well, I tried this game for myself and I like it. Not too good, but not too bad either, funny and original weapoon system, You can kill everybody without without single shot. But what are conditions for alternative levels and bosses?

Where could one download this demo from?
I would love to try it before I spend 40Euros on a used original copy.
Thanks.

In a nutshell...kill specified enemies, or a certain amount, in x12 multiplier. I assume you know how to get the multiplier up.

Here's the demo, chaps.

thank you so much for posting that. But... i'll have to play it on a better PC.

I'm running an IBM 300GL PC w/ a 4MB integrated video card. 384MB Ram. and a 500mhz Celeron. I'm patient when it comes to PC's but this game is just unplayable on my setup.

Well.. at least I can hear the cool music which sounds great! The game ran at about 4FPS on my PC.

I tried the demo but the display window is very small & Alt Enter doesn’t seem to switch to full screen.

That's why there's a Rapid Side Attack button. Not everyone's willing to stick-wiggle, including those who are using D-pads to play.

Although holding down the RSA button and wiggling the stick simultaneously kicks your attacks into overdrive.. :D
