Sorry, what's LP and TAS?

Looks real anyway, although this one seems quicker:

I think it's real personally. The movement seems more organic than most TAS runs, and the amount of bomb use also leads me to think it's legit.

Look at Stage 1-3. He manages to 1-life Hibachi, but he wastes 3 bombs on the Stage 3 boss. At the part where it just fires a fast blue line. Not sure any player who could legitimately 2-loop would do that.

I wonder if he explains what's up at some point. Or if he's actually good (!?)

It's weird, because if it's fake and he's just not telling everyone, he deliberately crafted fairly reasonable fake commentary for Hibachi.

I saw this a long time ago, but unless he's using re-record, it seems legit (bomb usage is strange I thought, but whatever). I watched his 2-5 and TLB video for Progear too, it looks human. I'm going to send him a PM over at emuparadise to see how much he practiced.

On a semi-related note, a lot of the replays on youtube from longplays.net (which he's not part of, I don't think) are not legit (even though their website says "Q: Are there any recording rules? A: No cheating!"), like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQshLOXWiGM

watching 2-1 and 3-1 compared to the Hibachi fight its a fake imo. Anyone whos spent allot of time with a shmup will have a route mapped out which takes the least risk while gaining the most rewards. Stage 3 looks more like someone whos new to the stage and is solely relying on twitch skills to get him though it. Also he doesnt collect the 1up and in the boss fight doesnt try to dodge and bombs through the single stream of bullets while he has no trouble with a simlar pattern with Hibachi. So yea its fake too many wasted movements. Edit at the very least hes used saves and recorded the earlier stages long before he spent time playing at the end game.

Yeah, I didn't watch any of the other videos.

He uses save-states in this game (Battletoads), so I wouldn't doubt he used them DDP/Progear too. Running the game at full speed would still make your dodging look fairly human. :P

That last YT vid posted by sikraiken (at stage 3-1) had me going for a bit but again he doesnt bother collecting the 1up plus some of his dodges as he moved from left to right in broad strokes were alittle too perfect and made me think he was running the game in slow mo.

It might just be me rather than something out of the ordinary, but the ship appears to make a strange hop around 3:34 (when he says "just") during the Hibachi fight.

I wondered about these vids some time ago...another thing to note is the kind of low score for a 2 loop clear and a bit too long Hachi fight...
I don't think he'd care about score judging from what he had, and I can take that form out with 2 bombs in less than a minute fairly consistently...

yea i see that hes moving down firing his laser and then makes a little dodge to the right, and the moves back up. The ship moves much quicker in that dodge then elsewhere. Good one for spotting that Aisha.

(While not the exactly the case with whoevers posted the 1st DDP vids) with superplays like this im usually suspect of when I see ppl posting superplay vids out of the blue when they arnt part of any the shmupping community or worse theyre YT page shows that 1 superplay in a sea of FPS or RPG videos

If you watch this 2-1 vid hes moaning about his score been too low for what he should be with only 4mill or somthing while fighting the stage 2 boss.

If you look closely at the dodging of Hibachi's second pattern (the grenade spam) at around 3:37, you'll see very clear evidence of slowdown/frame advance. The ship moves in very small and precise increments, which is pretty much impossible even under normal circumstances, let alone under extreme pressure this attack is.

How can there be discussion about this, obvious TAS is obvious.

He really does some unnatural movements/dodges. 1:09 for example.
Other than that, he didn't have a clue how to deal with the one attack he calls the "hardest". If you know some bullet dodging basics, this attack isn't a lot harder than the other ones. Simple cut-backs can help there (which he obviously didn't know, because he's probably a beginner)

What a failure it is to die or use bombs in a TAS...

this is tas, of this i'm certain, there are just too many give aways:
- first off if you just listen to what he says you'll very quickly find out he has no clue what he's talking about
- he calls one of hibachi's toughest pattern really simple and quite unnaturally maneuvers his way through it with ease (the small blue shot spam pattern)
- he considers one of the more _relatively_ manageable patterns the hardest and calls it "largely random", which struck me as ironic since he refers to the one practically random pattern that hibachi has as really simple (the one from above)
- he has no strategy in the first form, he seems oblivious to the fact that by destroying parts of the wings you clear the screen of bullets and should use that to your advantage
- he's inconsistent with how he deals with repeated patterns, it looks like he's just winging it the entire boss fight
- time after time he doesn't take the path of least resistance, even when it's clear as fucking day. one example is at around 4:10, this is hibachi's easiest patterns and he clearly has no clue how to handle it. he should have seen that he was going to get pinned and should have cut across into the next section when it would have been much easier to do so, instead he waits until he's completely cornered and has to make a risky move - not only that he does it in laser mode, a pro most likely would have switched to shot for a split second there
- regarding the pattern he claims is the hardest, you would think if he felt that way he would at least attempt to draw out the pattern and bomb when he's totally cornered, instead the first 2 times right off the bat he noobishly corners himself and bombs way too early, on the 3rd time at around 2:45 it looks like he tries to pass through it but he aborts and pulls back at the last moment - this really stood out to me as a clear tip off of playing at a reduced speed
- he claims he was freaking out at the very end, just after he pummeled all the hardest patterns hibichi has to offer without any bombs, i mean if he knew anything about the game he would've realized he was home free at that point due to hibachi being so low in health relative to his full stock of bombs

That progear vid isnt a TAS due to what the maker says- cubex55 "No cheats, its all Re-Recording (Savestates)"

Plus i bet my left nut he's used other tools aswell.

Its a shame that ddp LP is a TAS, as it would be great to watch a real superplay with ppl talking about the game at the same time, just like those Japanese superplay vids (which for me sucks cos i cant understand what theyre saying)

Its about time Rob came out of retirement and made a Mars Matrix LP :)

Most likely fake, he 2-ALL with such a low score (108.945.230 only). Surely any player capable of doing such a run would have a much higher score.

This run below which is recorded using mame has end score of 572.041.900 and input can be downloaded from MARP website.

Link to Hibachi but the quality is not as good and no sound.

Yup, very clear that he's using savestates here, meaning that his "strategy video" is really of no help at all.
