I'm playing with the thougt of buying a Candy Cab... I'm in Switzerland, and it isn't toooooo easy to come around such cabs.
Now, there is a "second-hand" cab dealer (among others...) and there are severeal Candy Cabs for sale.
http://www.vsa-ag.ch/VSAImport/Jap_Cabs.htm
I'm quite interestetd in an Astro City Candy cab. It would be without a pcb, but otherwise complete. The monitor has no burn-ins. The Price is at CHF 990.--, at the current $-Exchange rate, that's roughly the same in $$, so 990 $.
Is that a good price? Too expensive? cheap?
Thanks for your valuable advise.
(btw, in the beginning, I would hook up a PC with M.A.M.E. to it...)

That's expensive for the condition they are in. The top two certainly aren't worth >£400 imo.
They all have Blast City panels and most have holes drilled in them. :/

Re: Is that a good price for an Astro City Candy cab?
Thank you for your input. As I have little experience with candy cabs up to now, I didn't know where to place this offer, in what price-range.
Getting a cab is also another story... As it is rather difficult to come by decent cabs here in switzerland, I don't have many places to look for one (like, this arcade-stuff re-seller I just postet). Well, yes, I can look it up on the web and search there, but if the seller is not in switzerland, the transport costs become more expensive than the cab itself. :ugly:

It depends what your after - and most importantly how easy (cost) it is to get them actually to your door...
These aren't amazing deals but they're not a complete rip off if the monitors are actually good (the biggest concern for most players).
Of course you can probably get cabs in aesthetically better shape within Europe for £400-500 - but it depends what your priorities are, combined with delivery and trust of seller.
Ask the seller questions and see if they give honest details (photos?) answers etc... That service might be worth paying a little more for... but it is a question of trust.
Check monitor models, a pic of the geometry, state of controls (all stick/buttons work, type of stick/buttons?). State of power supply. All such details will help you minimise your risk.
What you can't confirm; expect to have to repair - that way you avoid disappointment.

As for the sellers: Well, supply of Arcade-Cabs is quite short here in Switzerland.

The biggest advantage of this seller would be: I don't have any transport costs, because I could get the cab with a buddies car directly from the seller. The cab I'd like to buy shouldn't have any burn-ins (at least, that's what it says on their homepage), but of course, I would check out the hardware in person before I'd buy anything, the same applies for the controls.
Asthetics-wise, I have no problem cleaning the cab and mending minor things myself, actually, I enjoy a little handy-work now and then.
I'll have to think about it a little bit, a grant is a grant (though I think I could bring down the price a bit with my charme, hehe), and 1000 bucks IS quite some money after all...
But considering... being able to play the games as they were intended to... is quite tempting.

Re: Is that a good price for an Astro City Candy cab?
Thanks Yosai.
At the moment, I'm trying to push the price down for a new astro city cab with the blast city 6 Button, 2 Player layout, from 990.-- to 700.-- CHF...
Keep your fingers crossed I can get it for that price, because on the technical side it seems to be in a good condition. No burn-ins on the monitor, good working power supply... But I'll have to wash it down and mend some minor things - but that's not bad, I like working on such things.
I think I'd buy it for CHF 700.--. Difficult to come by cheaper cabs here in switzerland. mind you, the cost for transport from another country is quite hefty...

Okay, the candy-cab issue is no more...
Instead, I bought this for CHF 202.-- (aprox the same in $):
http://www.ricardo.ch/kaufen/sammeln-un ... 625356354/
Fully functional, new Buttons, and the virtua-striker 3 pcb is included...
Now... this will make a beautiful tated shmupmame-machine...
