Shooters That Hurt Your Controller...

Post by stryc9 »

Have since moved on to sticks for for verts, which are of course more robust, but just thinking about the PS2 pad my mate lent me while he went on holiday. I had recently got Radilgy and I wore huge gouges with my thubnail into the plastic next to the buttons hitting up the double sword/shot for hours - no other shooter has ever had that effect on PS2 pads. I usually just rattle the D-pad loose...

Noope, never had a shooter degrade any of my controllers. But I have gone through two or three controllers over the many years playing Tekken. One of the d-pad directional buttons always fucks out and I have to press really hard on it for it to register.

Ive noticed im going through pads allot quicker since i started shmupping due to the sheer amount of button tapping wearing away the metal on the membrane too quickly. Seems like the price of metal is so high that manufacters cant afford a decent amount of it on the button membranes

Most of the shmups I play have autofire (or a setting to enable it), so they contribute to far less wear on the controller than, say, fighting games.

For the pinnacle of button (and wrist)-destroying shmupping, try Lethal Thunder without autofire.

All of them, especially ones without autofire.

I've gone through four of those in the past 2 years, and my fifth one is one its way out. The buttons just start wearing out after 4 months, and eventually the pad will start to stick. Eventually this causes me to lose enough that I give up, and destroy the controller with fury. Then I get a new one. It's a bad cycle :) . But it's cheap, only 15$, so sI don't mind too much.

Dangun Feveron is a good way to wear out a stick.
