Nah, Deathsmiles 2 doesn't suck.
It does kinda suck... to me anyways.
It's got some sucky things in it, but as a shmup it's got enough to make it worth playing (and most importantly, given it a chance, it's quite enjoyable. I'd even say that there are some refinements over the original.)

Like I said, perhaps not Cave's best, but still a worthwhile shmup. Personally I'm doubting that Akai Katana is deserved of the badmouthing, it looks great and I'm sure it's plenty big fun.

I hear you but it got boring to me really quick, I prefer the 1st in spades over the second one. Still I own it and got some fun out of it.

I agree about Akai Katana, like I mentioned before, DFK got hated on so hard when it 1st showed up in the arcades on here. I was kinda shocked when I read over that thread this week (it's like night and day, as far as opinions on here on that game from then to now). Everything from the music sucking to the stages being to colorful and the auto bombing.... then on to the usual "hard military theme to match everyones testosterone needs". I can see the auto boming but it has the power mode that addresses that and in my eyes is the real main game there; just like the maniac/god modes in futari are the real game to me... especially when playing for score.

To each his own.... I'll reserve judgement till I play it myself.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

If I had an Iphone I would get this in a heartbeat.

I hope they do more spin off games like this rather than direct ports of their arcade games.

This is the only time I have ever been wrong in my life, alright?

Back on topic, this is on special offer for the first few days, according to an offical cave 'Tweet'.

At that price, I'll give it a go.

I'm not sure if I care this time because it's a different genre. It seems as if I buy anything made by Cake like some kind of blind idiot.

I'll wait for early impressions this time.

DDP DFK was a great purchase, btw.

I wasn't going in with huge expectations so I am really quite pleasantly surprised.
It is certainly different for a CAVE game but I'm having fun playing it. Worth the few dollars in my opinion.

Uo Poko (and by extension, its Mushi-themed sequel) is the only Cave game that actually belongs on the iPhone.

You're probably right but DFK was a great time killer for a couple of months.

I'll have to disagree with that. Espgaluda and DFK both play surprisingly well considering the platform. Even making precise movements is simple because of the slide control mechanic. That being said, having played Bug Panic I do with it was on something else. On screen controls are and absolute killer and in this case i find myself dying because my thumb slide out of the touch area. Since there's no hard border around the screen it's impossible to notice until you stop.

The mechanics themselves seem nice, but i'd rather play this on XBLA.

Try this
http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZSt ... 16982&mt=8

There are a few control options as usual. Try auto-correct I think it is called.

Apparently, you need to have firmware 4.2 to play this fucker.
Having my 3GS unlocked and jailbroken, this is bad news D:
I couldn't buy it in the app store.

curious to hear thoughts about the controls. The few games i've played with the virtual analong controller i've hated immensely, does this game do it right?

Wish there was a demo, but i guess this is what they do when a game is being released at a cheaper price for a limited time

I'm on iOS 4.1 Jailbroken and had no problem downloading the game. I'm playing it right now actually. I'm also on a 3GS too.

The only other games I have that feature a virtual pad controls are Street Fighter IV and Sonic 4. Both are ok, but completely not optimal either. Bug Panic however, I have it set on the "fixed" control option, and I'm having no problems. You just place your thumb on the "pad" and it'll track where you go, long as you don't have a habit of taking your thumb off the screen for whatever reason. :)

iOS4.1 with greenpis0n. Works fine. iOS 4.2 is only required for iPad.

ah, i'm on 4.0.
Will update soon.
Is there any way to update from jb 4.0 straight to jb 4.1? i don't want to risk losing anything and my SIM wouldn't work without it.

If you're relying on a carrier unlock like ultrasn0w then you might have to wait, as there isn't a version compatible for iOS4.1 at the moment.
I'm not sure if pwnagetool will let you upgrade-JB without losing everything JB-related, including the unlock.

The game blows so far.

I like the zelda-esque tune that plays when you clear an area.

And the cute story elements, otherwise this game is a snoozefest.

okay apparently there IS a way to get an unlocked 4.1,
but i did it in a wrong order and now i have a useless phone at 4.1
stuck at the activation screen. i want to kill somebody.
greenpois0n doesn't work, spirit doesn't work, sn0wbreeze 2.0.2 doesn't work.

edit: redsn0w saved the day.
edit²: i was just able to activate and jailbreak that thing, so i've got a very expensive iPod now.
However i was able to buy the game. Seems pretty good so far. Just totally not worth the trouble i had.
