Radiant Silvergun availability

Post by marco75 »

I know Ikaruga is readily avaible on Nintendo Gamecube*. Now that the NGC is down to A$ 100, it would be worth getting one just to play this one game.

Alternately, there is the Chankast emulator for the Dreamcast version, but emulation is not perfect... not near enough to please, anyway. Plus, I'd need a faster CPU to play it, so NGC is the cheaper option.

But what about RSG? Was it ever published on anything other than Sega Saturn? Is there any way to play this game without paying exorbitant collector's prices?

If there was one SHMUP I'd like to see resurrected for a collection, it's Konami's Xexex. Now there was a game ahead of its time technologically -- even if the player's weapons were a bit wimpy.

*Why do video game magazines keep using "GCN" to refer to this console? That's assbackwards!

Unfortunately Radiant Silvergun was only released for the Saturn. Your only option other than paying 120+ bucks for a copy of it is to plop a mod chip in your saturn. Of course this amounts to piracy and will get you plenty of dirty looks.

Er, wouldn't buying a Dreamcast be the cheaper option? It's the better port and easier to connect to a VGA monitor. I know Dreamcast gets entirely too much fanboyism around here but in the case of Ikaruga, it's really a no-brainer.

RSG was only released "for home use" on the Saturn, so aside from getting yourself an actual arcade cab (which some here have done) that's the only way to play it. It is consistently expensive, but there ARE deals out there, if you're very patient...I saw one copy on eBay, which included everything but the spine card, AND threw in a converter device, go with a 100$ BIN price some time ago. I haven't seen anything like that since, but I haven't been paying as close attention as I used to either. It's largely a "love it or hate it" shmup though, so do your best to, if you can't actually play it and try it yourself, get a good idea of what it has in store before buying it...then again, if you don't like it you can resell it and get most of your money back easily.

I wish RS would come out for PS2...
The world would be a better place if there were less shooters and more dot-eaters.
