Crescent Pale Mist (PC / PS3)

Post by Ruldra »

Is anyone aware of this? Apparently it's a PC game that was ported to the PS3. Seems like a mix between a beat-em-up and Touhou, with flying around and powers that spew bullets everywhere.

Watched a video of it and had no idea what was going on, but looks interesting.

(shameless plug) For the PC original I made a review of it on my blog. I found this to be one the better doujins around, I found the boss battles to be very original and allot of fun. Unfortunatly I found the stages to be just a tad tedious at points and getting afflicted with the game crashing made me abbandon it. Still i wouldnt mind going back to it now i have a new PC.

Heres a tip due to your standard attacks been too underpowered using your special attacks make plowing through the baddies so much faster. The only problem is the you need to do standard attacks to collect enegy for your specials. Luckly theres no limit so collect in the early game and save for later stages.

While the stages can be alittle bland and sparse at times but does have the odd enjoyable skilled platforming in it.

PS learn all your moves youll need them, especally the teleport to get past the barriers in stage 3, so play through the tutorial. Also dont play on easy mode whilst the baddies die quicker, the boss battles are shite

Plus finding all the power ups / secret weapons certainly helps your character. I thing i did notice in the PC original if you die to restart at the stage start which are very long, but all the powr up and exp you gained is kept when you continue making it so you can Jrpg your way through it. If it doesnt crash that

The hidden weapons seem very secret. One weapon in stage one is the dragons horn if you can catch it as it breaks

@Trevhead: Is the game freeware? I looked around and only found a download link in an obscure site, so I'm not sure if it's okay to post it here. Also, I couldn't find the translation patch you mentioned in your blog.

@maxlords: It's up on the US store for $6.

ALSO it is up on EU store for €4.99 I believe. (it's 18 PLN here in Poland). Gonna get it when I get around buying a big PSN card for all CPM, Castle Crashers and Soldner X2

I was considering getting this earlier but decided not to before seeing if anyone would actually recommend it. Anyway it's really positive to see Rocking Android putting more doujin stuff on PSN. I'm still hoping to see stuff more like Siter Skain games, Zen-Ichi, Samidare or Hellsinker out there though.

I bought it when it appeared on PSN last week, but was put off pretty quickly by two things, which'll probably sound stupid:

1) I can't even pull off one of the moves in the tutorial. Knock back an enemy, then jump on top of it, they say. I knock back an enemy and find myself jumping through it, every damn time. This move apparently essential for collecting hidden items.

2) I wish that Rockin' Android would wake up and realise that they're releasing these things in the wrong fucking screen ratio. It was exactly the same story with the Gundemonium games. I suspect it may be something to do with the usual Sony bullshit, but christ, how diffiicult would it be for them to include 4:3 in the options menu? It's not as if doujin games need any help in looking ugly, but forcing them into some kind of approximation of 16:9 does already shonky visuals no favours at all.

Blame the forced 16:9 on Sony - they weren't left with a choice if they wanted to be on the platform. You can use the screen adjustments to set it to 4:3 (change the screen to maximum height and minimum width).

@E. Randy Dupre: Did you check the game manual on the official site? All in-game moves are listed there. You might be doing something wrong.

lol sorry :) Soldner looks too bland for me. Next time I add funds to my wallet, I'll get the Genesis Collection, Astro Tripper and maybe this game.

For the PC version, here's the trial download on the developer's homepage:
http://classic-shikoukairo.jpn.org/data ... frame.html

Click the top-right link in the white box (ダウンロード) , and then the 39.7MB link at the bottom of the page--the other downloads are just patches.

Doesn't fix it properly, unfortunately - the horizontal adjustment doesn't let you adjust far enough to get it at the correct ratio without having to stretch the vert so far that it's off the top and bottom of the screen. I can sort it by flicking my tv into 4:3 and fiddling there, but it puts the endless complaints about 360 Guwange into perspective.

No, I've not looked at that. I'll have to check it out, cheers.

What kind of display are you using? If it's a flat panel, does it have a mode that eliminates digital overscan cropping?

Also, if you like Rockin' Android's releases and want them to get more stuff on PC, it's worth dropping a line to Valve as it sounds they would very much like to get their work on Steam, where they'd likely have more creative and technical control than they do on PSN.
