Game save battery (battery clip installation)
Game save battery (battery clip installation)
Has anyone replaced a game save battery with an easy swap battery clip? I'm looking at soldering one of these into my Chrono Trigger copy before I start playing again. It'd be really nice having the clip soldered in to easily swap the battery in the future.

Re: Game save battery (battery clip installation)
I'd be interested to do this myself.....2nded for info. I have a TON of old cart RPGs that this would be handy on.....
That being said, that clip looks HUGE....don't they make slimmer ones?

<@scootnet> if you were a real gamer, you could jerk it to Super Metroid box art
Re: Game save battery (battery clip installation)
I successfully installed a battery clip on my Chrono Trigger cartridge. I needed to do a bit better soldering as my first attempt didn't hold the save. It's all fixed now and saves on a brand new battery I purchased this morning. The battery clips will work perfectly in SNES carts (as there is a lot of room), though I'm not sure how well they work in N64, Genesis, or Gameboy carts yet.
I would like to eventually get the internal battery on my JVC X'Eye replaced. I don't really want to start another run in Lunar 2 without that replaced.

Re: Game save battery (battery clip installation)
The thickness of the clip can be a problem. I installed a clip in an EEPROM cart I made, and it would have been too thick to get the back cover of the casing on. But since I had already cut out a huge hole for the ZIF socket of the EEPROM, I just cut another hole for the battery clip (wouldn't be doing this for a Chrono Trigger cart for sure). I think if you can find a clip that doesn't have a whole lot of plastic, it would be better.maxlords wrote:I'd be interested to do this myself.....2nded for info. These are the clips I used that work perfectly in SNES carts:
